Best

Thank you Lauren for such a great style, and you are incredible with that blow dryer. No one has ever gotten my extremely curly hair to look so relaxed with natural body...

Worst

Hairstyles and color here are pretty good although not exceptional, and the prices are reasonable. As a word of warning, every single time I had an appointment I had to wait about...

strands hair salon 4/13/2008

well i have to say that i read the reviews on this site and was a bit nervous about going but i ''said Enh! ill give it a try why not"" well i am very happy to say it has been the best hair cut that i have gotten in a very long time i went to STRANDS and LAUREN gave me an AMAZING cut and will be going back, and as for the other reviews give it a try like i did it is well worth it Pros: nice people, good looking girls Cons: parking more

Avoid this salon at all cost! 2/29/2008

terrible servive! do not go. i am (was) a regular at Strands. the service has been getting worse with every visit. no one greets you when you enter, often there is no place to sit, there are times that i had to wait more than 10 minutes to get a shampoo after my color was done. it used to be a really nice place but it has changed so much! i will not be coming back to Strand and I do not recommend it to anyone else. more

Disappointing 1/1/2008

I was very disappointed with my haircut and the service at this salon. I have been going to Strands for a long time and it unfortunately is not as good as it used to be. The service was never good but I overlooked it for the haircuts. But now the service is even worse and the haircuts aren't that good at all. I was so disappointed. My hairdresser talked me into coloring my hair and giving me highlights, neither of which I needed but thought he knew what he was doing. The color was too light and damaged my hair. I heard the hairdresser talking about business being ""down""...it then dawned on me that he was just trying to tack on more services hence more $$. It used to never be like this, but I guess they're so desperate they're willing to make bad decisions for hair in the name of money. Oh well. I guess the truly good salons stand the test of time. My guess is this salon will not make it if unless it makes some changes. For one, if the client keeps their appointment so should the hairdresser. I've waited to get my hair cut at Bumble and Bumble before, and even then the hairdresses apologized profusely. Not here. If you're looking for good service and good haircuts, keep looking. Pros: In Philly Cons: Bad Service and bad haircuts more

Puhleeze... 11/2/2007

Honestly, if this was Frederik Fekkai or Rita Hazan, I might consider waiting an hour and a half. But for a mediocre salon where the stylists who once *were* in high demand, there is no reason to sit and wait. The hair cuts are okay, but expect to get your hair cut a lot even if you just want a trim. The last time I went, and this time it really is the LAST time, I waited 15 minutes before I even saw my hairstylist. He then told me he's working on someone and maybe I can go walk around for a while. I said how much longer and he said about 15 minutes. He then continues working on this other woman and said OH it looks like it'll be another 1/2 hour...the big dummy that I am continued to sit there...hour later I finally got a trim. Sooo NOT worth it. Please keep looking. I am now going to Zanya in Lambertville and oh my God, what a difference. Cons: A has been more

Waits are too long... 11/1/2007

Hairstyles and color here are pretty good although not exceptional, and the prices are reasonable. As a word of warning, every single time I had an appointment I had to wait about an hour to be seen. And even then the stylist would be working on muliple people at the same time as me. So a simple color and cut ended up being 3-4 hours! Also several times they ran out of hot water...I just always felt like things were too chaotic. I believe a salon should have enough time and resources to pay attention to their clients. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Have to wait way too long to be seen!! more

Good salon in Old City 10/31/2007

This is a good salon in Old City and the prices are definitey reasonable. They always give good cuts and color and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend it! Pros: Good hair color and cuts Cons: Long waits sometimes.... more

High hopes but bad result! 8/24/2007

I feel badly writing a negative review of this salon, but since I picked it from the reviews on this site, I felt I had to add a word of caution to others out there. On the plus side, this is a cute salon, small but decorated well and decent music playing in the background. Everyone (including the stylist) was friendly and not snotty or rude at all. My stylist was Danielle, and she was very approachable, and seemed to listen well when I told her what I was looking for. Here's the key: I was very, very specific -- I very clearly said I wanted a trim, that I liked my hair long (emphasized long) but that my long (again, emphasized long) layers needed reshaping. My color was washed out and needed a boost, but I didn't want to go too dark, rather something in the mid-range, a nice and warm brown. Pros: Small salon, friendly staff. Cons: Haircut too short, color too dark. Three hours for a cut and color! more

Overall an okay place--if you're willing to wait 7/1/2007

I've been going to this salon for almost a year now, and had great cuts every visit. However, the last 3-4 times, I ended up waiting on an avg of 35-75 mins for the stylist. And I had an appointment at least 3 days in advance for each of these visits. I don't mind waiting 10-15-20 mins at all, but an hour seems a bit excessive. My last visit, I waited for an hour. And the hair cut was hurried (not what i had asked for), and the stylist - curt (this has never happened before). May be they just had a long day and wanted to get out of the place. And of course, no one apologized for the delay. They kinda expected you to wait. In my experience, it was a really cool place for great cuts (still is) but the service has slowly deteriorated and the friendliness lost. Looks like the more popular these places become, the less they seem to care about their patrons. Hence, below average. Pros: Still a good place for fairly inexpensive cuts Cons: Long wait lines (even w/ appointments), parking more

Best place to go for your wedding day!!! :) 6/22/2007

I have been going to Strands Salon for about 3 years now, and I am a new City Search user. I specifically came on here to rave about my experience at Strands and when I saw the bad review for them...it literally made me sick to my stomach! My wedding day was April 28th of this year. I chose Strands Salon b/c they have been so wonderful to me through out the years. They are a family owned and operated business and their staff, although not family, feels like part of the family. And when I go there, they make me feel right at home. I had 13 bridesmaids....YES 13!!! Strands did every single one of my bridesmaids hair AND makeup...including mine! Walking in the door, I was blown away by the spread of bagels, donuts wine, champagne, coffee, etc...they had for me. And then, they did the most amazing job on each one of my bridesmaids! The best part of my wedding day, was seeing my husbands face the first time he saw me. He said I looked like a model! In fact, my photographer was so blown away, he wanted to use some of my photos for his website! Needless to say, Strands far exceeded my expectations, with customer service, warmth, professionalism and results! My bridal party was so impressed with the salon and staff, that 5 of them actually switched salons and go there now! I know how stressful weddings are (I just went through it) and I can honestly say that my salon experience was the one aspect that I was most satisfied with. I would HIGHLY recommend using Strands for your wedding day, special occasion or just to get a great cut or wax! My name is Blair?I am 25 years old and I live at the Chocolate Works?don?t let one Bridezilla prevent you from getting what you deserve on your wedding day :) more

Unaccommodating, Deceitful, and Rude 6/6/2007

I booked Strands for a Bridal Luncheon for my wedding - I scheduled 9 women to get their hair done, including myself. I was not only disappointed with the resulting styles for many of my bridesmaids, but I was extremely disappointed with the customer service, the attitudes of the stylists and the lies I was told throughout the process. I called 6 months before my wedding to ask about their availability, and they told me that they had a service where they would provide bagels or sandwiches and cameras for the bridal party so we could have our luncheon there while we got our hair done. However, the day before the wedding, even though I had asked for sandwiches because it was lunch time, the owner gave me attitude and said she ALWAYS does bagels, even though I had been told we could have sandwiches at the beginning. Also, no cameras were ever provided. All of this sounds not too bad, but the worst is yet to come. more

Danielle, Joe and Tara Rock! 5/25/2007

I've been going to Strands for a couple of years now, and I love it there! (So does my mom, hsb1!)Everyone knows me, and the atmosphere is great - not uppity at all. Danielle cuts my hair, and she is wonderful! Joe cut my hair once when Danielle wasn't available and he did a fabulous job too! Tara, Terry the owner's daughter, waxes me and she is great, too. The prices are reasonable, which is important for someone like me who is on a budget, and the service is always the best! Highly recommended!! Pros: Fabulous cut, fabulous people Cons: Parking more

Finally-someone gave me the cut i've been looking for! Thanks Steve! 4/1/2007

Steve actually got the haircut i've been trying to have done for years! I've just been settling for so long...finally someone got it! Adn the color and hightlights were just amazing! more

STRANDS HAIR SALON 3/8/2007

this message is in regards to SCARLETBEARS maligant comment about STRANDS and the OWNER, I must object to the false statment that has been posted about her, I am a long time clinet from way back when the old owner was there after she took over she always made her clients feel welcomed regardless if it is your 1st time there or if you are long timer like myself you ALWAYS feel welcomed and see friendly faces and feel like family, There are few women in this society today to run a beautiful and successful upscale business as well as she and her amazing staff has... I higly recommend STRANDS AND THE OWNER, rated by a very happy long time client... present Pros: everyone is so friendly Cons: the parkinh lot guy is rude..... more

Terrible customer service 2/17/2007

The stylists are excellent, but the owner is wicked (and not in the good way). Although it pains me to have to find a new salon, I cannot, in good conscience, continue giving Strands my business. It's unfortunate that the owner's erratic behavior is affecting the careers of many talented people. more

Robin Rocks! 1/5/2007

Robin is a magnificent hair stylist! I have been procrastinating for years, as I have known her for a while but finally made the jump and am so glad I did. I let her do what she wanted with my hair, and it really looks fabulous. She is honest, forthright and down to earth. She also doesn't push product on you, one of my biggest pet peeves with stylists. She has a good eye and is patient with questions, too. She does a lot of hair and makeup for photo shoots and is in demand, so if the pros trust her work, you should too! more

A great stylist & salon! 10/24/2006

After losing my favorite hair stylist of many years I encountered one bad stylist after another in various salons. By a sheer act of fate I tried Erez at Strands. He is not a 'hairdresser' he is so much more. Using the words HAIR DESIGNER do not completely cover his skills. He cut my hair very short in February 2006 and I let it grow for 9 months. Now I don't normally go that long without a haircut but I really wanted it to grow. It grew in beautifully, with a perfect shape. Needless to say I was astonished. I went back to Erez (how could I not) to get a trim and he created a new hairstyle for me with precision cutting and care. My colleagues and friends gave it rave reviews and I am in love with it. I never thought long hair could be so easy to care for but Erez is a master! If you are in need of hair help ""run, don't walk, to Strands & Erez!"" more

Ask For Erez! 10/7/2006

Erez gives two kinds of haircuts: Good ones, and great ones. If you give him your business you won't be disappointed. He has great vision and a wonderful sense of style. What I mean is, he can see exactly what needs to be done to your hair to bring out its full potential. He is also very patient and listens to what you want done. He gave me a haircut that literally transformed my whole image. Incredible! Now my boyfriend goes to him, and he looks better than he has in months! Pros: You can't stop looking in the mirror after a haircut. Cons: You can't stop looking in the mirror after a haircut. more

The best hair salon, and stylist - DANIELLE - that I've ever been to! 8/17/2006

We moved to Old City 2 1/2 years ago and I didn't want to schlep out to my suburban hair stylist anymore - besides, I had already made the rounds of all that shop's stylists several times and I was still bored with my hair. Strands kind of scared me at first (after all, I'm an empty-nester) but they made me comfortable right off the bat. After trying a couple of their stylists I finally landed with Danielle about a year ago, and I'm so glad I did! She's the best stylist who has ever cut and colored my hair - and I need to have my roots covered about every 4 weeks. She's creative when I say, ""I want something new,"" she always has a good idea. And she's great to talk to, too. Plus, the owner, Terry, is not only beautiful but remembers everyone's name, and everyone else who works there is friendly and only concerned with making sure you're happy. I'd recommend it to anyone, male or female, traditional style or contemporary. Pros: Skills of stylists, atmosphere, helpful staff Cons: Wish I could include my tip on my check or credit card, but it's not critical more

I found Erez !!!!!! 7/24/2006

I met my friend on the way home after i got my haircut with Erez, i asked him if he liked my new look. He said: ""you look HOT, somebody will have a car accident"" ... Pros: great cut and color more
