Worst

Starseeds used to be an exciting place when it was a dive. It was a sort of adventure to see how bad the service was and how cheap the food would be. Lately, though, the prices ...

Don't believe the hype 2/25/2006

Im not sure what all the raves are about. Yea its such a dive its hip and trendy.. but that is about where the good stops. Service was poor at best. Zombie-like waitress looked right through our flails for service. No the food didnt take as long as some folks descriptions but it sure tasted like it. My ham and cheese omelet was more than dry and was accompanied by a mushy order of hash-browns (er.. make that hash-whites.. they were barely cooked). My breakfast mate had some rather bland chicken with a side order of chewy corn. I wont be back.. IHOP is open 24 hours too. Cons: Not so great food, Slow service more

Yeah its ""Hip Austin"" but.. 2/17/2006

Yeah the seats are beating up and its a dive. The ambience is in your face & they kinda go out of there way to show how ""cool"" it is. The service is real, no fake smiles- just be cool and patience and they offer the same. It might be filled with people who read the cliffnotes to ""On the Road"" but the food is amazing and the price is incredibly cheap for the gigantic portion of food. I now live out of town but I always eat when go back to Austin. Its just too damn good and the atmoshpere is Austin contained to 10 tables, 2 servers, wall art and loud music. So if you are going to Austin you must eat StarSeeds- its great food (consistently) and the vibe of Austin is captured under 1 roof. Pros: Food, B-fast Tacos, Pancakes, coffee Cons: slow (its Austin) more

THE WORST SERVICE IN AUSTIN 1/4/2006

I HAD THE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE DURING THE WEEKEND OF A.C.L. WE WENT AT 2 IN THE MORNING, IT TOOK 20 MINUTES TO BE GREETED, 20 MINUTES FOR DRINKS AND AFTER AN HOUR AND HALF.......NO FOOD EITHER. OUR WAITER FORGOT TO PUT IN THE ORDER. A NORMAL RESTAURANT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A MANAGER AND SET THE FOOD OUT QUICKER.......BUT NO. NO MANAGER AND NO FOOD. WE LEFT AFTER TWO HOURS OF WAITING, ONE DRINK REFIL AND HUNGRY. WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. OH AND IF YOU CALL TO COMLAIN THEUY TELL YOU THEY ARE REALLY BUSY AND TO CALL BACK AFTER AUSTIN CITY LIMITS IS OVER. Cons: WORST SERVICE, HORRIBLE SERVICE, RUDE PEOPLE more

mmm breakfast 7/18/2005

If you're craving biscuits n gravy, or sausage and eggs, or breakfast tacos, this place has everything breakfast. They serve breakfast all day, and their platters are huge! I had the turkey, ham & swiss omelette with hash browns and home fries, and let me tell you, I ate half and took half home for another meal. There's a wait on weekends, but it's faster if you want to sit at the bar or on the patio. My bf and I sat on the patio, where it was nice and quiet (compared to the rest of the cafe). They've got better service than Kerby Lane, that's for sure... I'd recommend this place if you're craving breakfast at any time of day Pros: open 24 hours, inexpensive, nice waiters more

not the same anymore 11/19/2004

Its a good place at 3am when you want to sop up the beer in your system. Try the cheese fries and breakfast tacos. Problem though - it has changed over the years. You can not smoke in there anymore. Some may like that but smoking used to be part of the ""charm."" And yes, the service does take a lopng time even when the place is not busy. So in the end, decent food at a decent price while waiting a decent amount of time waiting for it to get to you. But if you're drunk at 3am and hungry (and don't smoke), the wait flies by... Pros: breakfast, $1 Lone Star Cons: , no smoking, cramped more

Stars a great place to eat 8/11/2003

Try the breakfast tacos, for the money they are the best in Austin and a great time to visit Star Seeds Cafe is late after a night on the town. But don't hold yourself to that anytime is a great time to eat here. It's good, it's affordable, and you get lots of food....GO EAT AT STARS!! Pros: Stylish Interior, Inexpensive, Lots of FOOD Cons: Parking more

~Greatness~ 5/4/2003

Star Seeds is absolute greatness! The food is wonderful and the waitstaff fits the place perfectly; they complete the dining experience. I've never waited too long for anything and, honestly, the breakfast tacos are worth waiting any amount of time for. We go there atleast twice a weekend and it just gets better and better. Great food and even better prices. Don't miss this spot! Pros: great food, great prices, great experience more

service sucks 1/21/2003

the food is good but can not figure out why a place which does such obviously good business can not manage to have more than 2 servers for the entire place. it takes anywhere from 2-20 minutes to get a drink or menu, if you are lucky enough to get a seat even when there are empty booths for 5-10 minutes. the frustration with the service and servers definately takes away from the food. Pros: breakfast, parking, people watching Cons: service, servers more

Not worth it! 1/8/2003

I had been going to this place for 3 years. The pancakes, and breakfast plates are consistently good. The downside is and always has been that some of the waitstaff goes out of there way to be rude and seem proud of it. I'm going to IHOP or Denny's. Not worth it! Pros: Great pancakes Cons: Rude waitstaff, Wait too long more

A hidden treasure 12/5/2002

I have lived in Austin for 9 years and never knew Star Seed existed (its hidden on the access road where 1-35 splits into the upper/lower deck) until I was taken there by Todd Lewis of the Toadies. He loved the migas there but I stuck with the ham and cheese omelette (moist and grand). For only a little money (7 dollars a person?) we were given plates piled high with food. The service was not very good though and refills were hards to come by. We thought we had been forgotten sitting outside. Otherwise, it was a good experience. Pros: inexpensive, good food, plenty of parking Cons: mediocre service, crowded/small more

I Can't Really Decide 11/14/2002

OK, I have been there so many times, and I absolutely LOVE the cheese fries. YUMMMMMY!!!!! But, the service leaves a little to be desired, but then again, so does the service at most places in Austin, so I guess I can't complain too much. I will definitely go back. Plus, I love the art on the walls. I think it's awesome. Pros: art, music, food Cons: service more

questionable 10/26/2002

overall, the food is not good. I was surprised to see that it had such a high rating. The best thing you could say about this place is their happy hour. Other than that, don't go there unless you want cheap food and don't want to go to the other 24 hour places around town. more

Be nice or leave 9/10/2002

""Be nice or leave."" The sign says it all. Stars has great food and good music to go along with it. Sure, the waiters aren't always cheery but at least they're somewhat real. It actually makes the dining experience better. Reciprocity is the issue. If you don't act like a jerk, then they won't treat you like one. Even if they do, the breakfast tacos and chocolate chip pancakes are worth it. Pros: Breakfast Tacos, Loud Music, Bathroom Graffiti more

save your money 9/1/2002

This was the worst dining experience ever. Their tasteless food was absolutely horrible and we had to keep sending our orders back for corrections. Service was aweful, slow, and unfriendly and this place had the treble turned all the way up on their blaring music. Not only could the waitress not hear us as we ordered, but I had to read my friend's lips as I made myself some earplugs out of napkins. To end it all, they overcharged us on the bill. Stay far, far away.....or suffer the consequences. Pros: Open 24 hours Cons: Tasteless food, Aweful service more

you don't eat the atmosphere 8/3/2002

This is a dive in every sense of the word, but has breakfast the way ot should be. The migas rock and the nasty servers and tattered seats add to the charm, reminding diners, you don't eat the atmosphere. more

True character, good food 7/16/2002

Star Seeds is a classic in Austin. I can't remember how many good CDs -- from Miles Davis to the Beastie Boys -- I heard while eating a solid breakfast of eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. The large counter space is perfect for those 'table for one' diners. My only complaint is that kitchen staff seems to have a huge turnover. So there are times, you can tell a new cook is training. And the wait can be long on the weekends. But neither are a good enough reason not to make this a must-visit for folks in Austin. Pros: great scene, solid food Cons: long waits more

Great late night dining stop 5/27/2002

The breakfast tacos at 3am are the best hang-over prevention food to be found on I-35. This 24-hour greasy spoon is the best way to round out a night of heavy drinking. The home fries rock! more

best breakfast tacos in town 5/21/2002

Been going to stars for almost 3 years now. Get the five filling breakfast taco, but ask the cook to go easy on the butter! They slather it in that stuff. Also, try the hummus app! Pros: cheap, cheap, cheap Cons: long waits sometimes, slow service, loud music more

Divey, but great 5/18/2002

It's a hole in the wall, true, but this greasy spoon has some great home-style food, even if the cooks strike fear in your heart. more

cheap diner food, good deals 5/16/2002

Okay, the servers might have a little attitude, but, they'll warm up to you once they've seen you a few times. Don't ask them to turn down the music; they won't. The portions are quite large and the prices are perfect if you're on a college student's budget. more
