Editorial review from Citysearch 9/5/2013

Took my scooter in today to get the new tires that I purchased elsewhere mounted. It took about 3 hours but they seemed to do a good job. They quoted a price over the phone and that's what I paid even though I had them install a new set of valve stems that I brought with me. more

Great work , Honest Good People 5/10/2012

South Philly Cycle is an family owned business and they know motorcycles . They dont pretend to know. I have been to many mechanics that just want to BS you . Arnie (the mechanic and owner), and his family are probably honest to a fault . If you need something fixed and it takes time he will tell you . This is the best place to have a motorcycle fixed Hands Down! Especially if you are trusting your life or a loved ones to it . more

Not so good. 5/13/2011

Well, the issue here, other than being an unproffesional, unappealing business, is that they are have a problem with telling the truth. I made an appointment for some work on a Saturday and when I got there, I was told that I made a mistake because I was supposed to call the day before and reconfirm (which wasn't true). I asked them to order a battery, which they were certain it would be in by no later than 2-3 days. On the fourth day I asked where the battery was. I had the impression that they didn't order the battery. Rather than tell me that they forgot to place the order (forgiveable offence), they told me it would take another 2-3 days. When I asked how much the battery was that they ordered, they starting digging through order books to try to find a price.\r \r The bottom line is that if I can't trust what they are telling me or doing, then why would I give them my bike with a key. Very unproffesional, no parts stock, no confidence in their ability. I suggest try somewhere else. more

Excellent Quality Service, Fair Price 3/9/2011

I will continue to use South Philly Cycles for as long as I own a motorcycle. I brought them a 1972 Honda CB 350 that had been sitting for over 30 years and they were able to get the bike back up and running! They were very professional, friendly, and performed quality work at very fair price.\r \r I was in need of a replacement gas tank and they managed to find a replacement and match the color so that I didnt have to repaint the bike! They added a bunch of extra parts, explained in detail what they had done and didnt charge me a penny more than what they explained to me. \r \r These guys are great! I wish more companies operated like this one. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!! more

South Philly Cycles is a great place to buy a scooter 8/7/2009

good shop. many good experiences 5/6/2009

these guys have done quite a bit of work on my bikes so far. \r Replaced an engine on my suzuki gs500. (i blew it up and came to them looking for an alternative to the dealer) got a very good deal on the job. \r they've also replaced many of my tires, done many oil changes (i've got nowhere to do it myself) and lots of other routine maintenance.\r \r My buddy's bike is in their shop every few weeks (daily ridden 1995 kawi) and they always fix whatever problem it's having\r \r Pros: friendly service, knowledgeable Cons: always busy so plan to leave the bike or call ahead more

Worst place to take your bike!!!! Don't do it! 2/20/2009

This husband and wife team together couldn't fix a PB&J if you gave them the bread, jelly and peanut butter. No joke! I brought my bike to them for a clutch replacement and not only did they lie to me about a "high performance" clutch that didn't exist, they also lost my bike's registration, left my garage kept bike out in the rain and I had to call the cops on them to get them to pay for my registration replacement. They also kept telling me they'd have it done by a certain time and never got it done after having it for over a month. This place should be closed down. Probably the stupidest people I have ever met!! more

Worst place ever to bring your bike!! DO NOT DO IT!!!!! 2/20/2009

This place is the most unprofessional repair shop EVER!!! I've said it in other reviews to ensure these people get NO business and I'll say it again. This husband and wife team couldn't fix a PB&J if you gave them the bread, jelly and peanut butter. No joke!!! Not only did they never fix my bike after having it for over a month they also lost my registration and left my garage kept bike out in the rain. They also lied to me saying they were ordering me a ""high performance"" clutch that doesn't exist and I had to threaten them by calling the cops in order to have them pay for my lost registration. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!! I wouldn't bring a pedal bike to these two morons! Pros: NONE!!! Cons: unprofessional, dirty, never open, rediculous in every way!!!! more

Dishonest, Untrustworthy Establishment -- Stay Away! 8/12/2008

Brought my bike in with a no start, no spark condition.\r \r They replaced an inexpensive ignition pickup coil and charged me over dealer list price (>$400) for a used igniter unit ("black box") that was not defective. I know because I popped it off and had a dealer test it with their Digital Ignition Checker prior to taking my bike into their shop. They either damaged the igniter unit in the shop or never actually replaced it.\r \r The work they did do was careless,: they failed to reinstall the breather tube on the air filter housing and lost one of the original bolts that secure the fuel tank. Worst of all, they fried my new battery, a high quality sealed unit from Yuasa, by cranking the starter incessantly, which, in turn, fried my voltage regulator, and left me stranded.\r \r Never Again! I'll find the time to do my own work. more

Open since 1987, South Philly Cycles has been a long-term of the South Philadelphia motorcycling community. We are family-owned, and treat our customers like family as well (though we expect that to be a two-way street).

We ride bikes and love bikes. There is nothing that ruins your day more than a mechanical breakdown. We know this and will do everything in our power to get you back on the road quickly and at a reasonable cost. Our fully-equipped shop is ready to correct any problem your ride may have, whether it's a cager knocking your bike over, a flat tire, or a bike that hasn't gotten all the love it needed, we've got you covered.

We don't bite! Stop by sometime to say hello and check out our newest, hottest inventory while you're here...
    Spare parts
-Over the years, we have accumulated a whole warehouse of spare parts for almost every bike. If you just can't find it anywhere else, there is a good chance that we have it on the shelf. Of course we can order most OEM, OEM+, and aftermarket parts as well.
    Diagnostics
-Have a pesky electrical gremlin, or is your bike temperamental when starting on a 65 degree day with 80% humidity (but starts fine otherwise)? We can help. With years of experience on most makes and models of both carbureted and fuel injected motorcycles, we can hunt down the cause of many common (and not-so-common) problems with your motorcycle.
    Maintenance
-A little bit of maintenance can go a long way for preventing major problems. Don't wait till your motorcycle leaves you stranded on the side of i95 in the rain to start thinking about getting a tune-up. Drop by and see if your bike needs anything.
