Authentic Japanese 6/1/2007

This restuarant is the only authentic Japanese restuarant in the downtown area. The food is excellently prepared by Japanese chef Nono-san.\r I can't vouch for the service since ""Super-Waitress"" Yuki retired a few years ago but anyone who speaks badly of the food totally discredits themselves. If you don't eat sushi, the teriyaki is as good as any I had during my five years in Japan. more

After living in Japan for 4 years, I was disappointed by every Japanese restaurant in Baltimore with the exception of Shogun. Their sushi is great, but their age tofu and shrimp tempura are my favorites. Service is mediocre--but hey that is like Japan too! Pros: food, inexpensive Cons: slow service more

""Homemade"" food 7/29/2005

Although you may base your opinion of Shogun on the reviews from others on this site, I recommend that you check it out for yourself. Although service can be slow when you come in a big group, the rolls and sashimi served are the freshest and most delectable you will find in the Baltimore metro area. This is in many respects a very Japanese restaurant. Do not expect the usual artificiality of friendly banter with the staff. Unlike many of the other popular sushi venues in the Baltimore area, Shogun is a place to enjoy the company of your party and the wonderful food, not the forced smiles and meaningless conversations that a lot of other restaurateurs try to push on you to appear accommodating or friendly. I have not had authentic Japanese food this tasty outside of my own home or that of my in-laws in Japan. Pros: Outstanding food, Endearing staff Cons: Difficult to park, Cramped Seating more

Maybe all you can eat in an hour - maybe NOT 6/11/2005

We have been to Shogun's sushi bar for their Wednesday all-you-can-eat special several times and while their sushi IS very good, the service could be better, considering you do have a limited amount of time before they cut you off. Last time we ate there, the man and woman making the sushi were busy putting together a huge sampler platter for another order and left everyone at the counter waiting - without sushi. I sat there for at least 20 minutes patiently waiting for another sushi roll. When they finally finished the big platter they were working on, I asked for another Philly roll. The lady looked at the clock and said she was sorry but my time was up. I didn't argue - we just got up and paid our bill and left, but I seriously doubt I'll go back. Pros: Great sushi Cons: slow service more

Second best sushi ever 3/31/2004

Normally service & atmosphere play into my final review of a restaurant, but the food quality here was *so good* that I am overlooking the average service and atmosphere. I love sushi, and give this restaurant a 10 out of 10, 2d only to Yama's in New York, of all the sushi restaurants I've tried between NY & South Carolina, DC to Cali. In contrast, I've been to Kawasaki's some 3-5 times and have never been impressed with their food or service. Pros: YUMMY SUSHI!!!, easy parking, great value Cons: , come early more

Unforgettable 5/6/2003

Only because it was the most dreadful dining experience my party of six has experienced in Baltimore. The restaurant was not busy when we visited for dinner. It took the server more than 20 minutes to acknowledge our presence. After being denied my first three sushi selections because ""we run out"", others in my party were served their selections. Those I chose, were flubbed and never served to me. After ordering entrees, we were again ignored. Our dinners came to the table 45 minutes after we ordered--and all selections were cold. Will I give Shogun another chance? Not with Kawasaki just up the street. Cons: poor service, cold food more

Take - Out 3/15/2003

We usually get this great sushi to go - so I can't rate the restaurant itself, but the food is very good. more
