If I had to describe this place in one word, I would choose...cozy. It is not usually crowded (probably enforced by their ""no standing"" rule), they have many beers and the bartender we had was knowledgeable. He was very attentive to us. I was sort of shocked to read that other people found the service slow. We had our beers refilled as soon as we even got close to finishing. We worked up such a high tab that he even threw in a small sample of their dried fava beans (I would not buy them on my own).
There are a lot of rules, but I find them to be quirky and part of the charm of this place. If you can't find it funny, then maybe your personality just won't mesh with this place.
