Best

Loved it. The person I went to dinner with also loved her meal. The chocolate dessert (perfect for two people) was to die for! It is our new favorite restaurant.

Worst

Great food and atmosphere, but I don't think they put any alcohol in their margaritas. $7.50 for a non-alcoholic margarita?

Best Mexican Food. 4/19/2007

Best Mexican food in the city., probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in the country. Try it out everything is great, my favorite is the house burrito with carne asade. Pros: Best Mexican food in the city Cons: Only open for lunch on Thursday-Sunday more

GOOD FOOD, BAD SERVICE, NICKLE AND DIMED 4/6/2007

On our quest for good Mexican food here in PDX, our adventure led us to Aqui based on reviews. The place is small but cozy. We arrived early at 5:15 and the front dining room was very soon almost filled to capacity. The margarita was very good, but at 6 on the nose, the prices jumped up. Chips and Salsa are extra, as was just about everything else on the menu that usually comes with standard Mexican fare. Our server was pleasant but inattentive. With such a small dining room, the place operated like it was their first day in business, minus the usual eagerness of a new restaurant. We had the chicken enchillada casserole, and it was quite tasty...but stay away from sour cream, salsa, or quacamole....these little sides ended up being more than our entree. We waited a good amount of time for refills on our drinks, and our chips were served with a chunk of cooked beef tucked at the bottom. When we alerted the server to the food on the plate, she casually cleared it with no apologies or mention of "making it right". Our best bet next time would be to take the food to go. We will keep searching...this place is OK but nothing to write home about. Pros: Entree was good. Cons: Service slow, too pricey. more

Poor Service; Mediocre Food 3/9/2007

A group of 8 of us went to Aqui last night and we all agreed that the service was just awful, and we are not complainers - honestly. The waitress was rude and did not deliver a service which was anywhere near acceptable. Our pitcher of margaritas (mostly sweet and sour; skimpy on the tequila and gran marnier) sat on the bar for over 15 minutes, and when we final poured ourselves a drink, it was very watered down since the ice was half melted. Happy Hour Food was just OK. We asked for salsa to enhance the flavor of the nachos and bean dip, and were tossed two bottles of tabasco-type sauce. We probably won't go back; the service, margaritas, and food are way better at Taqueria Nueve!! more

Great Mexican for cheap prices 3/3/2007

A fun laid-back atmosphere. The chips and salsa were good, wish we'd tried the nachos--they looked even better. Def. our favorite mexican food in Portland more

We recently moved back to Portland and were craving good Mexican food. My husband did a citysearch search and found Aqui. We went there and were lucky enough to arrive during HAPPY HOUR! applause!! We both ordered margaritas (fabulous!) , had taquitos (good if you like beef, I don't, so I skipped them) and then a main entree each. He had enchildas and I had a bean burrito...not too adventurous but we were looking for comfort Mexican food and found it there! We left stuffed and very satisfied. We also noticed that it would be a decent place to take our two young children, always a plus! Pros: Margaritas, Food, Service Cons: Limited Seating and parking more

Excellent Food and Drinks 2/14/2007

A group went here for a Bday celebration and it was great. Prompt service, yummy drinks and amazing food. The outdoor patio was terrific. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. more

Best Outdoor Seating 11/19/2006

I love this restaurant! Been there a dozen times, and it always exceeds my expectations. Whether you sit out on the lovely patio or sit inside the cozy dining room, it is very comfortable and welcoming. You cannot leave without trying the mango margarita - one of the best in Portland. From the green salad to the chile rellenos and the jalapeno mac and cheese...each dish is unique and simply yummy. Even their guacamole is fresh and bursts with tons of flavor! The weekends are busy, so go early to pick your ideal spot. more

Happy Hour Heaven 11/17/2006

I would come to this place ANY TIME. Small, quaint...we always get the same waitress and she always is above and beyond with her service. When it's busy, she always acknowledges you and makes you feel welcome. Food is fantastic. Drinks yummy. Choices abound. Pros: Service, food, ambience (yet child friendly!) and drink Cons: Not open Sundays more

Small but Friendly! 11/15/2006

Have only been here once but it was a good experience. Went with about eight people because we were looking for a new place to try. The staff was very accommodating and never made us feel rushed or pressured. We had good food and great drinks. Appetizers were late and drinks were kind of pricy but that wasn't a big deal because of the comfortable atmosphere and great service. Would love to try sitting outside sometime, looks pleasant! more

Always delicious, always a great value!! 10/21/2006

I have eaten at Aqui several times over the past year and a half, and I have never once been disappointed with the food, service, or atomosphere. The food is fantastic, portions are phenomenal, and the quality cant be beat. Its always fresh, and tastes like it is made with care. The shrimp enchiladas are like heaven in your mouth, and the marionberry margarita has just the right kick. The service is some of the best in Portland, always friendly and helpful, even on a busy night. When I am there I always feel welcome. If you are looking for a great restaurant for any night of the week (except Sunday), look no further, Aqui is the answer. You wont be sorry. more

Terrible All Around, Watch for hidden costs. 10/19/2006

Our waiter was snippy from the moment we walked in the door. We felt like he had better things to do then to, oh say, bring us menus..... The Margaritas were mostly ice, tasted horrible and were overpriced. The chips and salsa we were charged for, something that traditionally comes with most Mexican meals for free. In addition the chips were peppered. We both like pepper, but this was overbearing to the pallet. Adding chicken to the undersized shrimp enchiladas cost $3.00 for what was no more then a strip of chicken. I realize that it was a Friday night but a 20 minute wait for drinks is out of line. We were pointed to a seat while everyone else was escorted. Others were given instructions on how to use the heater above their tables,(we were outside) by the same waiter, while ours was not even mentioned to us. The only reason we are even ranking this horrible place is the fact that my burrito was large and good. However, the same quality and quantity can be found at Cha Cha Cha's for half the price. Please don't waste your time or hard earned money here. Pros: I now know not to eat there ever again. Cons: Everything. more
