Pleasantly Surprised 12/16/2008

I took business associates to Popi's for dinner before an Eagles game, on the advice of a local. The food was fantastic. I had Gnocci Sorrento with a meatball side, and it ranks as the best gnocci I have had, and also one of the best meatballs. The gravy had a very fresh tomato taste. It was enough food for at least two meals. The others in my party were also very impressed. The bill was very reasonable - $130 for 4 people, including alcohol and appetizers. If you're going to the Sports Complex, this is a great choice - but arrive early. We got there at 5:30 for an 8:30 game, and by 6:30 it was pretty busy. The large, free parking lot was a nice touch. more

Great Bridal Shower:) 5/12/2008

Just recently had a bridal shower for a friend... April 27th to be exact and I can't explain how wonderful the food and the service was at Popi's. I read the previous review and everything written in that review was the exact opposite of the experience I had at this restaurant. The shower began at 1 pm on a Sunday, the last guest arrived at 1:30. By the time we sat down to eat it was 2:00. We had 4 courses... soup, salad. pasta, and I had the crab cakes...yes there were 2 of them. We were not rushed at all, if anything we thought the food took a bit long to come out between courses. We had the banquet hall till 4 pm... our entree came out at 3:30. Thank goodness my friend had a display shower.(we really would of ran over) for those who have never heard of this, all of the guests are asked to bring their gift unwrapped and then everything is set out on display so u can walk around to see all of the gifts that the bride received. A company was hired to set up the display and repack all the gifts at the end... I have to tell you the idea is brilliant!!! There is nothing worse then sitting at a bridal shower with 80 guests and having to watch someone open all those gifts.. anyway, after all was said and done, the last guest left the restaurant at 5 pm. The staff at Popi's were very helpful at the end of the shower and helped put all the gifts back in the boxes and helped load up the cars. We left there at 5:45, we never once felt rushed, the staff was very attentive and polite no ones glass was empty for longer then a few minutes. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. The room was beautiful as well. I am in the service industry myself and talk to at least 15-20 people a day, i have told alot of my clients about this restaurant and none of them have had a bad experience yet. Try it for yourself...u won't be sorry:) Pros: parking, service, size, location Cons: n/a more

Do NOT Host a Party Here! 2/26/2008

My mother and bridesmaids threw a shower for me at Popi's, and it was a TERRIBLE experience. My mom went to Popi's in advance to try the food and see the restaurant. At the shower, however, the food was actually BAD and even EMBARRASSING. The salad course was a bite of lettuce only on a BREAD plate. The pasta portion was equally small also on a bread plate. The entrees were supposed to be crab CAKES or chicken parm, but they only served ONE crab cake and a tiny piece of rubbery chicken. In addition, my mom paid extra for wine at each table, but soda, tea, and coffee were also supposed to be offered. The waitresses NEVER offered anyone soda or iced tea with their meal. They rushed us through our courses and began packing up my shower gifts before the guests had left. And we hadn't even used the full time allotted for the shower (we had an hour left)! It was very rude, especially as some guests had driven 3 hours to be there. We still tried to make the best of it, but the food and service were downright embarrassing. You'd be better going anyplace else, please do NOT WASTE your money. We had our rehearsal dinner at Ristorante Panorama and it was a wonderful. Also, Tre Scallini in South Philly has good food and a banquet room, and La Fontana della Cita at 17th/Spruce has great food and I think is available for parties. Pros: Free parking Cons: Food and service are awful more

Love this place!! 4/10/2007

Really don't understand the bad reviews! Have been back on quite a few occassions, and really love this place. I'm by no means a regular, as it is no where near my home, but it is definitly somewhere my partner and I look forward going to. Great wine selection, friendly staff (old school), and very generous portions of delicious food. Try it for yourselves. Pros: Parking, service, food more

STAY AWAY! 12/31/2006

I was extremely disappointed by ""Popi's,"" when I took my family before a 76ers game. Since that time, we have jokingly renamed the restaurant ""Crappy's,"" as that most accurately describes our dining experience. The caesar salad was watery, the chicken was very tough and chewy (I tried it too and it taste like rubber), and the steak wasn't cooked even remotely close to the temperature that we ordered it (they served it well done instead of medium). They had to recook two of our entrees as a result and the rest of my family was done eating by the time they came back out, which doesn't make for an enjoyable dinner. more

So Good! 9/14/2005

Popis has some of the best food I have ever tasted. Recently renovated in a sort of Tuscan theme, the atmosphere is better than ever. I have been there many time and never left unsatisfied. I recommend making reservations because it's difficult to tell when it will be busy. Pros: Antipasto , Good Wine Selection more

EXCELLENT!!!! 12/17/2002

I'm sorry, I can not understand the other reviews for Popi's, but I simply love the food and atmosphere there. Wonderful service, delicious food, musical entertainment, simply is a great place! Prices are reasonable also. Pros: great food, great atmosphere, wonderful service Cons: none, none, none more
