Hands down the best vet practice I have ever been to 7/4/2006

I am new to Portland and was referred to this vet by a friend of mine when my cat dislocated her rear knee joint last week. When I walked into the building I was very emotional and it was hard for me to even talk. The front desk staff quickly took the carrier from me, helped calm me down and filled out all the paperwork for me. Within three or four minutes Dr. Frost was out speaking with me and my girlfriend. She was extremely empathetic, compassionate, and was genuinely concerned for Hope's (my cat) welfare and comfort. She also aknowledged my girlfriends children and was very good with them. I explained to her what had happened and she described what she wanted to do, why she wanted to do it, and what the possible results could be. In no time at all Dr. Frost was out in the waiting room and was explaining the results of her examination. She went over all of the possible options to me and answered all of my questions honestly and professionally. I was especially impressed with her answer when I asked if the damage to Hope's ligaments was irrepairable and did not flinch when she said it was. That is what I expect from a professional. I do not trust people who cannot answer a question directly no matter how difficult the answer may be. During that time the front office staff was very respectful of my emotional state and one of the girls (sorry wish I would have got her name) even took the kids out to the lobby to play with the kittens so that Dr. Frost and I would not be interrupted during this crucial time. I was allowed to visit Hope before I left and was promised that I would be called very shortly. Dr. Frost called me later that afternoon and thouroughly explained the procedure and Hope's reaction to it. I had a few other questions and had to call back 2 times and was never made to feel like I was bothering them or that my questions weren't important. I had to go back 3 days later and they were just as good even though they were very busy\r \r Pros: Compassionate, respectful, honest Cons: Umm..hard to find the driveway? more

Excellent treatment 6/28/2006

I disagree with the ""former employee"" who criticized the care at this office. I've always had a great experience taking both of my dogs here. In fact, it wasn't until we went to PVH that my lab's knee problems were FINALLY correctly diagnosed. We got a referral to a wonderful veterinary surgeon, and my dog can now walk again, free of pain.\r \r If this veterinary office is ""low quality,"" I can certainly point to many which are far, far worse. I recommend this place. more

the only semi-competent doctor at PVH 6/17/2006

Dr. Pierce is the best veterinarian Pacific Veterinary Hospital has to offer, but that isn't saying much. As a former employee, I saw firsthand countless shortcuts and mistakes made by the staff at PVH. Many pets were not treated with the utmost of care, and many clients were dealt with quite rudely. Dr. Pierce definitely has a fondness for animals and is quite knowledgable, and if she's not too preoccupied with her own matters you might get a decent exam and opinion.\r \r I would not recommend taking your pet to PVH, but if you have to for some reason, try to see Dr. Pierce. more

meh 6/17/2006

If you want a knowledgable vet with a lot of experience, see Dr. Grossen. However, if you want a vet who is patient with animals, is caring and calm, and who is friendly and curteous with clients, avoid Dr. Grossen at all costs. more

Great vet! 5/3/2006

Dr. Grossen is such a good vet. She's very caring and attentive. Always has time to talk about any issue your pet has. All the vets in that office are great! more

Great vet!! 9/16/2002

We've used Dr. Pierce for a few years now. She's great with our two bassets and our golden. The crew at Pacific is wonderful. I highly recommend them. Pros: knowledgeable, courteous, right the first time Cons: a little high on cost more
