Compared to many restaurants in Richmond this one was dissappointing. I expected so much more. The food wasnt bad but it wasnt better than something I'd cook at home. Sorry, over hyped and underwhelmed. more

If it's not too hot, ask for the Patio 8/23/2002

Six of us dined on the beautiful patio on one of the few nights that the temperature was bearable. Our experience was lovely. We had wonderful service, unobtrusive and charming. We shared a seafood sampler. It was pricey at almost $30.00 but it was enough to satisfy the six of us. For dinner I had the surf and turf but substituted the lobster with two small crabcakes. I am not a fan of lobster and our waiter recommended the substitution. The filet, juicy and cooked to a perfect medium. My server said the crabcakes were the best around and now I am a believer, pure crabmeat. Our guests also enjoyed their meal, there was nothing but yummy coming from our table. No room left for dessert. The restaurant has delightful ambiance. I recommend having a drink at the bar before sitting for dinner. Pros: Patio, Free Parking, Food/Service more

Where's the beef? 8/16/2002

I recently was in Original Old Bookbinders with a group of eight. I ordered the porterhouse and the other seven had various other dishes. All of the steaks at our table tasted like fish. They all had to be sent back. They must cook the steaks on the same surface that they cook their fish, YUCK! Their service was acceptable but the general lack of friendliness has caused me and my party to not return. Pros: Good fish, Reasonably prompt Cons: Poor beef, Unfriendly, Sloppy server dress more

Great Place 8/2/2002

AWESOME! We had a wonderful time here for a Rehearsal dinner. It was better than the actual wedding. The food was great and the service outstanding! Pros: Staff, Ambiance, Parking more

outstanding! 8/2/2002

I don't know where the people who rated this restaurant badly ate but it wasn't the Bookbindery. This place has the best food and the absolute best service that I have seen in a long time. It is quite pricy but worth it! more

Our service was OUTSTANDING! 7/29/2002

I'm surprised to see that there is a negitive comment on the service at Bookbinder's. I have been to this restaurant at least 10 times and the service has always been outstanding if not the best in the city. Everytime we dine at Bookbinder's our drinks and warm crusty bread are delivered in a heartbeat. The service is friendly but not intrusive. The food is wonderful especially the crab cakes and the filet. We consistantly have a great time here. more

Good food, lousy service 6/9/2002

Rarely am I prompted to write a review, but this time I must. We had a party of 8, and the beginning service was excellent. But as the evening wore on, it went from bad to worse, EVEN after a couple of $240+ bottles of wine. My 4-pound lobster arrived hot, but the veal for one in our party was just warm. This was my 3rd and LAST time at Bookbinders. more
