Overall... I had a good time. The food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. And the martinis... uh... FANTASTIC!!! The only problem that I had, was that they didn't h...

My boyfriend and I wanted to try out the News Room since it's close to my apartment and on the trendy ""Eat Street"" of Minneapolis. I'd heard there was a good atmosphere. Pros...

Trendy but bland 10/16/2003

This place is trendy. Food is average and comparable to any other sports bar. Prices for food is comparable to Chammp's but there is nothing fancy about the menu. The place is very trendy with a industrial/deco type of decor. Drinks are about average price. Service is OK but I've had better at Olive Garden. The coolest thing about this place are the bathrooms, which are open and connected together by mirrors. Guys can see the girls and vice versa in the washing area. Kinda fun to see a woman unknowingly adjust her bra or fixing her makeup right in front of you... you get a good laugh. Pros: Location, cool hip bathrooms, trendy people Cons: trendy people, menu is average, below average service more

My News Favorite Place! 7/31/2003

The News Room is my new favorite restaurant in the twin cities. Even though the restaurant has an overwhelming news paper theme, it really is second to their outstanding service and delicious food. I have eaten at the news room for their amazingly bargain priced happy hour in the expansive outdoor seating, for a quick and quality lunch break sandwich, and a 10:30PM (long after most of the downtown restaurants have folded up their kitchens) sumptuous regular menu salad. Basically when ever I have gone, where ever I have been seated and whatever I have had to eat they have never failed to be quick, courteous, quality and enjoyable. I cant wait to try their weekend breakfasts! Pros: Quality Food, Excelent Service, Value Price Cons: Busy, No Parking more

something different... 7/15/2003

...and it works!!! The amniance is innovative and they pull it off well. Three cheers!!! The last thing we need is another TGIFridays style decore, theres enough places doing that. The food is your standard burger, sandwich style choices but done to perfection. Not the typical ""keep it bland so nobody is offended"" sandwich so yes they (fear of fears in this state) may add a dash (a pinch of) SPICE! Pros: variety, decore, price Cons: gets busy more

remedial at best 5/28/2003

What does it take to get a fresh sandwich around here? When limp tomatoes and wet rubbery lettuce begin to combine and form a completely different substance alltogether-that's bad news. On top of that our server was completely rude-why did I tip that ____? I mean, I couldn't get a refill to save my skin. No Go, if you ask me. Pros: Cool Bathroom Cons: Service, Food Quality more

Can I Wrap This Up For You? 4/8/2003

Visited this establishment on a Saturday around 5:30. Host seated our party of 6 and the server came over and said, ""How long are you going to be here? We have a party at 8 that will need this table? Will you be done????"" So, we move and she scolds the host in front of us! ""He's new and doesn't know anything."" This was the tip of the iceberg. Should have left. Order a chicken wrap sandwich, not a Lawry's Season Salt Wrap. Couldn't eat it and server asked 3 times if she could wrap it up. Everytime I said, ""No I don't like this."" Was not offered anything else and was not about to pay for something else. Ick, never again. Cons: Service,, Food, Service more

Style vs. substance 2/23/2003

Mostly a place to be seen and to hang out for drinks after work or early on the weekend. Lots of look-at-me-drink, late-twenty-something, I love sushi bars too, account exec crowd. A glorified bar that serves decent food. I've been three times in last year or so with others, but I can't get into it. Maybe it's the crowd, maybe its the young and hip atmosphere that has become so banal in the upscale bar scene--I can't put my finger on it except to say I only go there with others who won't take no for an answer. The bar is pretty cool--a ship-shaped bar complete with rigging, and the curved walls are giant nostalgic newspapers. Check out the oh-so-shiek bathrooms with smoked windows that look into the other bathroom. Pros: atmosphere, cozy booths Cons: that odd vibe, atmosphere, expensive more

Horrible 12/20/2002

The newsroom is a place to go for drinks and drinks only- The food was terrible and it was too crowded- Less tables in there would make for more people to get in and stand. But I do not reccomend this as a dining place to anyone. Pros: Atmosphere, Location Cons: Food, Crowded more

Hot bartenders, cold drinks 12/5/2002

I have been here a few times now, and have always enjoyed myself. The pasta's are great. I strongly recomend the ravioli in vodka cream sauce. The mussels are the cream of the apps list. I have heard good things about the flat bread, but have not enjoyed it either time we tryed. The staff was kind and joked around with us. There are some hot guys behind the bar that makes the time to stay and have an after dinner drink worth it. The beer list is top notch, and the martini's are expencive, but STRONG. Over all a solid 8+ Pros: Beer list, Staff more

fun place to go 11/8/2002

I've been a couple times and I had a good time, good service, good food, and excellent drinks. The drinks are pricey, but worth trying at least one. The appetizers and salads are really good, especially the goat cheese flatbread. I love the bathrooms with the mirrors you can see to the other bathroom through and the decorations - the bar shaped like a ship and the place covered in newspapers and flat screen Tvs. It's a nice uspcale place to watch a game with some drinks and appetizers. Pros: drinks, appetizers, decor more

Late Night Dining 9/10/2002

News Room is open until 1am every night and serves a full dinner menu, not just bar snacks. The lasagna was great and the atmosphere was nice. more

80 Beers for Barbie 6/24/2002

2 friends and I met for drinks on a Sat. night. Good spot to meet and chat; easy to find seat and not too loud. ""News"" interior is clever, always something that I didn't see before. I really like the bar that looks like a boat and the bomb above the door. In spite of all the memorabilia, the place isn't cluttered or dusty. The beer selection is great with 80 beers from around the world. However $6.22 for a Hacker-Pschorr Weiss is spendy and the waitress had the personality of a warm bud light. I expressed interest their ""drink all 80 beers club"" and she failed to explain it until I practically begged her to tell me details. I will go back as it's a great location and I'd like to further investigate the beer list. Pros: beer selection, interior decorating Cons: price, staff more

the ""Bad"" News-Room 6/9/2002

If you are concerned about service dont bother going there. I've owned and managed a few restaurants in my life and this place must have a ""unique"" way of profiting... their staff dont get paid well, a personal friend has quit working there and 2 months later hasn't got the last check yet... their manager is the most unpolite and rude one I've ever encountered (maybe he needs a raise) whoever is in charge of the kitchen should seek anger management therapy (heard yells and tantrums from MY table) How long do they expect to stay in business??just one word about it TERRIBLE Pros: servers are polite Cons: management, low quality food more
