Mozart's going downhill 12/31/2008

Mozart's has long been a great place in Austin--and the gorgeous location, as well as the quality of the coffee, may well make it worth it. But it's going downhill!! Bird ""leavings"" on the outside picnic tables, bagels made several days ago wrapped in saran wrap, the smell of burning food, all at sky high prices! So--only buy coffee, and BYO table cloth (and umbrella!) if you want to eat outside!! Pros: Setting, views, coffee Cons: Hygene, food more

Great coffeeshop with a view 10/9/2008

Gotta love the multi-level decks overlooking Lake Austin and Tom Miller Dam. Born and raised in Austin and this place has been one of my favorite coffeehouses since I first discovered it years ago. Love the pastries and ice cream! They have some indoor seating for when it's too hot to be outside. Great place for a date, meeting with friends or taking out of town guests out. Unfortunately close parking is hard to find because of it's proximity to Hula Hut, but many spaces are usually available in the lots across and down the street. more

Beautiful Place vs. Terrible Dessert 10/1/2008

No doubt a beautiful place! I like its decoration and atmosphere. Drinks are recommended. But never try the desserts. The only credit I would like to give their desserts is how they look. But we are buying something edible!!!! The cholalate decadence cake is tooooo sweet. The key lime cake is hard, waxy, the coating is even terrible, I will think I'm eating a dough with sugar if I didn't look at my plate. Anyway, I won't spend even a cent on their desserts any more!!! more

Great deck! 12/26/2005

The deck is great and the desserts are fabulous. But be warned....the coffee is pretty sub-standard. I've had a couple of bad coffee experiences there and I don't recommend it if you need your java, but the pastries are really good and the desserts are great! more

What a coffee shop should be 8/2/2005

I love Mozarts! It has the BEST coffee (try the Mocha Special, it's the best mocha I've had in town - and their hot chocolate is made with real chocolate, not that gritty stuff you get at the bottom of the cup sometimes), great desserts/cakes (there's always something new to try), AND a superb view. Mozart's embodies what I look for in a good coffeeshop. Plus, they've got wifi and lots of tables, which makes it a greaty study spot as well, in addition to being a great place to relax after a date :) Pros: delicious coffee, scrumptious goodies, great place to relax more

Relax and Read a book 8/7/2003

This is a GREAT place to go cuddle with a good book..have a coffee..and look over the lake. Deck outside must be lovely to sit at on nice fall/spring days. Must see! more

Great Outdoor Atmosphere 11/11/2002

The patio on the lake and the live music are what really make this place. Indoor tables are cozy and candlelit, but when the live music is indoors with microphones it gets a little loud. Lattes are great, and drip coffee is good but can be inconsistent from day to day. Desserts are to die for. After living here since 1994, Mozart's still has the atmosphere to relax and enjoy the boats passing by on Lake Austin. The outdoor patio is even better when it's a clear night and a tad cool to enjoy that warm mocha latte. Pros: Spacious Patio, Live Music, Great Desserts Cons: Better Washrooms more

Make-Out Haven! 10/3/2002

Well, I have to say I LOVE Mozarts for the fact that their seating is mainly outdoors with dim to no lighting. It's a great spot to sit outside, enjoy Lake Austin, a good STRONG cup of coffee and a 3,000 calorie dessert (well worth the cals I think!), and to make out with your honey (if you pick the seating that's back off to the side where the boats are stored). Pros: atmosphere, lots of seating, romantic spot Cons: overpriced, not good on rainy day, coffee too strong more

Great Patio, Lousy Food/Coffee 9/20/2002

Wonderful patio, but I can't believe this place won a ""Best"" anything related to food. Their desserts look beautiful, but taste awful. Stale, old, lacking in flavor, overly fatty. I have also had some of the worst coffee in Austin here. However, the last cappucino i had was pretty decent, so perhaps they've improved. The patio is perhaps the best in town, fantastic for watching the sunset or hagning with friends. Also, lots of outdoor electrical outlets and free Wireless internet make this definitely the best laptop coffeeshop in town. Stick to the Yerba Mate iced tea, and enjoy the view... Beautiful Sunset/ Nice View 8/7/2002

The coffee is really strong, which is a plus to me. The dessert I had was some kind of custard with berries, which was creamy and delicious. The view was so peaceful. I went in the afternoon in the spring and at sunset in the summer. Both times were just so relaxing to me. I agree with a previous reviewer that this is a great place to take someone on a date...the kind of date you like spending all night talking to. It is a great atmosphere for conversation. It would also be a great place for out of town guests. I did have a granita once that wasn't as good as granitas I've had in the past, but so what? The view is so good that you could experiment with half the menu and not feel like you didn't get your money's worth. Pros: great sunset, great view, really good desserts more

Where's the Cheesecake 7/19/2002

I am very sorry to say this but WHERE's THE CHEESECAKE?? I do not understand what has happened to my favortie dessert place in town. It has changed and I do not like it. I miss that big guy who baked all the rich and wonderful desserts. Mozart's you have a lot of work to do. I was spoiled and now there is no cake in town good enough for me.
