Mio Sogno, Relocation 6/12/2009

Mio Sogno has closed it's doors in South Philadelphia, however has opened under a new name and new location. Owner and executive chef Joe Polutro has recently opened RARE Italian Steakhouse, located at 6130 West Passyunk Avenue, just over the Passyunk Avenue bridge. RARE has a beautiful and spacious dining room with seating for 115, it also features a private room for parties and special events. The menu is incredible, culinary genious Joe Polutro is offering his patrons both Italian as well as steakhouse fare. RARE was a wonderful dining experience, I have taken several clients as well as my wife to the restaurant and have not heard a negative comment yet. One of my personal favorites would have to be the 12 ounce center cut bone in filet mignon. For starters I highly recomend the baby lamb chops as well as the classic clams casino (best i ever had!). Contact information is not currently available, due to their website being under construction however the number to the restaurant is 215-727-0411. Try the Gnocchi, their homeade and melt in your mouth!!! One thing potential customers should know is that the restaurant is housed inside an upscale gentlemens club (definately upscale!). RARE does have its own entrance seperate from the club and drapes covering the windows, insuring that no dining experience will be interupted. In the event a customer would like a "view" while dining, the restaurant has a seperate dining room.I have taken my wife their and have not had a problem yet. Don't let the location fool you, the food and service is top notch and the wine list compliments the menu accordingly. Pros: Atmosphere, menu, service, too many too mention Cons: none more

the best italian food ever 4/20/2009

its hard to find good italian food, people dont dow any betterthan the regular old olive gardens and the carabas...... THEY SIUCK i went there with my pops and we looked at the menu thinking theres gonna be a regular linguini and sausge but i didt reconize 1 thing on it that was a good thing 4 me i liked what i got it started with a B on the righthand side menu it was thicker than linguini in olive oil with shrimp and brockly , AND THEY make the OWN CAVATELLI's! if you now any thing about italian food no resterants have that, and its a perfect place fore a date! Pros: I hear the phillies eat there! Cons: its hard to find it since there are alot of one way streets more

Fabulous italian restaurant 9/17/2008

I highly recommend this for a night out in South Philly. The interior design is beautiful and romantic, and its a great place to go if you want to dress up or dress casual. The service is excellent, when I went back the second time the waitress remembered my drink order and the dinner I had during my last visit. The chef/owner came over and introduced himself and asked us "if we enjoyed everything?". The ambiance was really relaxing and romantic. The food is excellent, everything was prepared just right with the perfect amount of seasoning (not to heavy and not bland). Pros: Ambiance, Service, Interior Design, Location Cons: parking hard to find right out front, need street parking more

Fabulous! 9/25/2007

I have been to this restaurant many times before Flyers games and Phillies games and they have never let me down! The food is fantastic and the service is right on point. Chef Joe Polutro has come over to my table everytime to ask how my meal was. I can not say enough wonderful words to describe this restaurant. Pros: Food and Service Cons: None more

Mio Sogno...not your typical South Philly corner restaurant! 8/7/2007

Excellent! I just celebrated my 50th Birthday upstairs at Mio Sogno. The food was terrific and the service was excellent. Mark, Lou and Chrissy attended to my guests like they were family. On previous visits, our table was serviced by another well-attentive employee by the name of Anthony who did treat us like family! The wait staff attended to all of our needs throughout the night. Chef Joe Polutro made a couple of appearances to check on our evening. Did I mention the food? Out of this world! Baby lamb chomps, pork tenderloin, eggplant parmagiania, stuffed tortellini .... all delicious. This is not your typical South Philadelphia corner restuarant where you can get veal parm and a side of spaghetti. Chef Joe cooks with an "old world" Italian flair that I am sure you will find both unique and worth a second and third trip! Pros: Not your typical Italian restaurant. Food served with an "Old World" Italian flair. Cons: None. more

Our favorite Italian Restaurant 3/16/2007

Mio Sogno was recommended to us by a reliable source (a waiter at another upscale restaurant) and after our first visit we realized that everything was just right. The food was delicious, the wait staff was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere welcoming and cozy. We were anxious to bring our friends here and everyone has enjoyed their meals start to finish. Pros: absolutley delicious Italian food, great service, Joe and Anthony are a great team Cons: none more

If you can't be in Italy for dinner, try Mio Sogno.......... 2/26/2007

Mio Sogno is the place for authentic italian food in South Philadelphia! Everything we order there is fabulous, but more often than not, I order the Veal Calabrase (sp?). To die for! It's veal cutlet and sauted spinach with sharp provolone and roasted peppers on the side. I've never had anything like it anywhere else. Most likely your dinner will be prepared by the proprietor, Chef Joe. You can't ask for more than that! You can almost always find a parking spot with in the block or across the street. It is so worth the trip over the bridge. Cons: None more

A menu with excelent mix of Italian dishes, ask for the specials before looking. 12/8/2006

This is my first review. I hope you enjoy I was asked by a friend to make a dinner reservation, at this resturant, and remarked that I had not heard of it. We were seated quickly and courtsly, however there is no coat hooks avaliable. The menu while small contained all that one could ask for, antipasto, salads, pasta dish, main dishes included crab cakes. We had an excelent water(panna), unlike the taste of Philly water, followed by fried calamarie and a mixed salad. The main entrees were excelent with good sized portions. We finished with creme broue. The next night we were taken out by friends to this same resturant again. And again the food was excelent, however the bean soup that my friend had was bland. this time for dessert we had the strawberry cheescake with frest wipped cream. I had a very nice time and our waitress even sang a little. more

  • In Short
Past the famed Italian Market and close to Philly's sports stadiums, Mio Sogno (My Dream) has quietly won a wide range of fans over the past several years. Chef/owner Joe Polutro draws inspiration from all regions of Italy and deftly puts forth signature entrees such as Costata Di Maiale -- a thick-cut pork chop, stuffed with Italian sausage, prosciutto, smoked mozzarella, and topped with a porcini mushroom sauce -- in his charming two-story, 90-seat restaurant.
