Great New York Style Food 9/7/2010

I drove all the way to Richmond, Va from New York to experience Mary Angela's Pizza. Actually I was there visiting my daughter and had to try this place. It was like walking into a restaurant in NYC and the food was great to boot. I know it can be a little close, but it was obviously a family run joint just by walking through the door. The pizza was great, service was helpful and honest and I can't wait to go back. It has always been tough to find a good pizza in the south, but this was great. I noticed some of the meals being served to some of the college students across the isle and it was no wonder they came here, good food, great quantity, good value. Looking forward to bringing the grand kids back. more

Authentic 8/15/2010

Best NY style Italian pizza in Richmond. Very reasonably priced also. Routinely have pickup orders ready in 15 minutes even during very high volume times. Highly recommended. more

Best pizza in town 7/24/2010

I would recommend this place to anybody. You may have to wait a while during the peak times but, this place is well worth the wait. Nothing fancy, drinks come in plastic cups and and the menu is your very basic italian items, but the quality is amazing. For the price you just can't beat it!! so, next time your going to the byrd to catch a cheap movie stop by Mary Angela's you won't be dissapointed! Pros: good food, friendly staff Cons: small, crowded more

Great food, great price and real italians 8/25/2009

I have been to this restaurant many times and every time its good. Its also in a safe neighborhood. Pros: New York style pizza, tasty and a good price Cons: Small resturant, 20 min wait for seating at peak hours more

Best Pizza in Town 6/2/2009

Best pizza in this town and fairly many other towns I've lived in. I eat here nearly once a week. Only thing I've ordered off the menu that I wasn't wild about was the cheesesteak, otherwise though all around wonderful. Can't say enough about Mary Angela's!! Pros: see headline Cons: gets pretty busy, just anticipate waiting maybe more

GREAT PLACE TO EAT! 4/4/2009

MaryAngela's is the place to be. They have awesome food. The waitstaff, they are completely friendly. They care about their customers, not just the bucks and you can tell. They are continuously checking up on you, making sure you are satisfied. THE FOOD! The pizza, customized any way you want it. Not soggy, not completely hard like a rock, but it is perfect! The subs are amazing. Crunchy bread, with the deliciousness of the customer-wanting additions inside. MARYANGELA'S IS THE PLACE TO BE! Pros: Best food, and nice, funny, friendly, waitstaff Cons: None. more

Our version of Italy 1/3/2009

Ok my wife loves this place. I think it's ok. The Pizza is great and the mozzarella sticks are good. We always have to wait for a table but the people are great who dine there. The employees are nice but very busy. All and All I would tell you to go in partys of 4 or less. Pros: Pizza Cons: The pace of the place more

Sick to my stomach 12/31/2007

In the 10 years I have lived here I have eaten at Mary Angela's twice and both times it was the same experience - I literally got ill within a few hours after eating. Bloating, upset stomach, and nausea. Now you may ask why I tried this place again after my first experience, however I do believe in second chances and so many people rave about the food I figured maybe it was an off day. Uh....NO. The pizza is loaded with grease and the crust is limp and soggy, and the sauce leaves so much to be desired. I swear I am baffeled at why this place gets any kind of good publicity. Maybe people keep eating sh*t because other people say it's good pizza. I for one like to develop my own opinions, and my stomach will never let me eat at this place again - no matter what anyone else in the Richmond area says. You can have this hole in the wall. Pros: nothing comes to mind Cons: food made me ill, parking was a pain, service was poor more

Run fast - Run far - this place is so BAD!!!! 10/25/2007

Unbelievably poor service - the worst - EVER!!!! Called in an order and when I went to pick it up, I literally dealt with one of the rudest people I've ever met. Could someone be more of a b****?? Did you just get out of prison or what? She rang up some extra charges and when I questioned what they were for, she got really defensive and wouldn't let me see the ticket. And then literally began to argue with me about it - like how dare I question her. I'm like, wtf - why can't I see what I'm being charged for? Never mind that I also ordered a drink which she refused to fill up more than half-way...okay lady, then why are you putting a lid on it? So, so, so unbelievably bad.... Pros: Food Cons: Customer Service hands down more

The very best Italian sub in Virginia 9/16/2007

The Italian sub is the best. Everything else is good but the subs are my favorite. I have been a customer and fan since 1995. There is no better sub around the Richmond area. The people are great, the service is very good and the atmosphere is casual. I love this restaurant. Hint: Saturday at 4 is the best time to go if you don't like crowds. Pros: the wait staff remembers you. Cons: The place is small and the bathrooms are too close to the dining areas. more

a Carytown Tradition ... 8/6/2007

Having grown up in Richmond and even right around the corner from Cary Town, I have had the chance to watch the fluctuations in the various eateries. While Mary Angela's has been a constant, and has been a Cary Town tradition for most of us much of our lives, there has been a steady decline in the customer service as business has picked up. There have been times when the quality of the food has declined, but they quickly fixed that. With the current staff, if the food ever declines again, I'm sad to say that Mary Angela's might not make it another decade. Pros: Food, Location, History Cons: Parking, Customer Service more

Awful service 2/2/2007

placed an order over the phone and then drove 30 minutes to pick it up and a very rude woman said they never received the order and it would be at least another hour before they could make anything. completely l lacking in customer service would never order from here again. more

Flawed, but good 5/3/2006

A couple of things to think about before eating at Mary Angelas... For starters, this isn't a fancy, high-end Italian eatery. It's a typical, run-of-the-mill, Mom & Pop pizza joint on a street corner in Carytown. Two, good food takes time, particularly Italian food. You *will* wait a little bit to get your food. The service is satisfactory, but little more beyond that. Don't expect warm and fuzzy"" employees. They have a small dining room and it's to their advantage to turn it over as quickly as possible. That said, they won't try and run you out or anything and they've never been rude to me. Finally, the food is usually good. The pizza is probably as good as anybody else's in town and the small pizza is perfect for one hungry person (think of it as a generously sized personal pizza) Pros: Location, Delivery, Good pizza Cons: Small, Indifferent service, Small menu more

They don't care about their clients 12/20/2005

The pizza is great, sometimes burnt, but the service is so horrible, you will starve while waiting for your pizza to arrive. They have no respect or customer appreciation, they do not care who returns or who is happy, they are only after the buck. Trust me, after atleast 30 disappointments where I waited over 1-1/2 hours for a medium cheese pizza, I am finally swearng this horrible business off. I advise you to do the same! Pros: good pizza Cons: dirty, long waits, worst service ever more

The Best Pizza and Calzones in Richmond 4/21/2005

As a lifer, I've tried pizza at many Richmond spots, and Mary Angela's is the only place I go now. (I live outside the delivery area unfortunately.) I've never eaten in; I've only ever gotten takeout. Definitely call ahead or you will have a long wait in a tiny eatery with a dingy, well-worn interior. The customer service is all right -- efficient and civil but not too warm. Parking can be a hassle. This is a hole in the wall but it is worth it! Pros: Food Cons: Parking, Interior, Possible long wait more

Stromboli from heaven 11/3/2004

While the pizza is great, I'm a lover of the stromboli from Mary Angela's. I've lived in Richmond for three years, and I've yet to find one anywhere around here that rivals Mary Angela's. Like the pizza, I think it comes down to the sauce--excellent authentic tomato that just kicks a**. Pros: Sauce, Crust, Food overall Cons: , Bathrooms, Small intereior more

For the Pizza Conessieur 5/31/2004

If you're like most sane people, and believe that NY-style pizza is unquestionably superior, there is no reason to go anywhere in town other than Mary Angela's. The crust, sauce and cheeze are top quality and in perfect proportion. Toppings are appropriately basic but ample. California Pizza Kitchen it ain't. Call ahead and pick-up to avoid the wait and stark atmosphere. Pros: Real, NY, Pizza Cons: , Service can be slow more
