way overpriced 10/29/2006

I went here one time after work to just kick back by myself and have a drink and a bite. First of all, although it was a lovely late afternoon, they wouldn't let me sit outside because there wasn't a server out there or something. The place was totally empty, by the way. I used to work in a restaurant and if I was the only one on the floor and the place was empty, I let the customers sit anywhere they pleased. I was pretty hungry so I said okay I'll sit inside. Earth to Lucy's!!! A taco plate is NEVER worth $15. NEVER. I love to spoil myself and so I will gladly spend plenty of money on a nice dinner. I'm not cheap when it comes to food and drink, but I also hate feeling like I'm being ripped off. This place has a great location and a decent outdoor ambience. But the overpriced food and the idiot staff ruin the whole occasion. I actually don't mind idiot staff when I'm paying $5.99 for my dinner. However, once I get around the $20 range the staff had best be up to par. Look at the menu and I promise you won't stay to eat. more

The rudest service in L.A. 9/24/2006

This restaurant has a cozy outdoor atmosphere but too bad the service is terrible. I have eaten here a few times but each time the wait staff is extremely rude and unattentive. The bill is always way higher than expected with many hidden extra fees. The drinks are way overpriced. The food is mediocre at best. Stay away from this place. I will never spend another dime in this restaurant. more

forget the 'been there once...ew' brigade 7/22/2006

I've been eating at Lucy's since the mid-90s. The food is wonderful. Can't speak to the drinks cause i'm not there with my 6 frat brothers to get zonked. Entrees come with a salad and soup...the salad dressing is fantastic...the soups change...variations on bean, chicken, tortilla..and they are all unbelievably good. I took my mother in law there when she had a cold and the soup cured her. Usually get the chicken tacos...with beans and rice. It's totally reasonable. About $15 per person for all that food. You will love it. Bring some cash because while they take plastic you can't add the tip to the bill and put in on your card. Go. You will be glad you did. Pros: chips salad and soup all come with entree..practically a meal in themselves! Cons: parking...and you have to look at paramount's crappy tv show billboards afterwards more

Rip off -overprized bad food 5/25/2006

My friend wanted to take me for a Birthday -margharita after work. Because they have a nice Patio and I haven't been there for a long time I suggested Lucy Adope. It was afterenoon, Patio was closed which was a bummer, so we sat inside. Service was unfriendly . Food was lame and tasteless. The Margharitas tasted like the forgot the Tequila - so we ordered 2 more shots. The Marharita were 9.75 each and they charged us 10 Dollars each for an extra shot. Ridiculous to pay 20 Dollars for a margharita in a place like that. I will never go back there. It is a real shame when I moved here 10 years ago I really liked the place, but it really went Downhill. Don't go!! And check the good reviews, how old they are!!! Pros: memori of better days Cons: bad food, bad Margharitas, overprized more

This restaurant is dead to me. 5/13/2006

Once upon a time Lucy's was a charming Hollywood find where you could eat great mexican food, sip strong margaritas and groove to the dark, hip vibe for a reasonable price. And then something happened... I don't know if Lucy was kidnapped or brainwashed or if she simply cashed out and sold the joint, but this restaurant has taken such an unbelievable downturn. The food: at best it's bland; at worst it's revolting. The weaker-than-weak margarita pitchers contain a mere misting of alcohol. (And of course we ordered a bunch of them, hoping to get the faintest buzz, but to no avail.) Final insult: the bill for 11 people (including tip; yes, we tipped 20% -- we're not animals) came to $500. $45 per person to leave a birthday dinner hungry and stone-cold sober. It's going to take me a few days to mourn the loss. Pros: decor Cons: way overpriced, inedible food, watered down drinks more

Resting on their laurels 12/15/2005

Indifferent service, charmless decor, and awful food doom this historic eatery. Lucy's is famous more for who used to eat there than the food they currently serve. Strong drinks save this place from being a complete waste. Pros: Drinks (barely) Cons: Food, Service, Decor more

it's too late for me, save yourself 8/1/2005

to say that the food at lucy's is mediocre is being incredibly genorous, i sat through stale chips and tasteless salsa for an equally stale and tasteless enchilada plate. and to add insult to injury - the meal was over $15. They didn't bother to ask how the food was - i guess they already know. more

So sad... 2/23/2003

This place breaks my heart. It would be such a fantastic alternative to the overpacked El Coyote- it's oozing with charm (check out the waterfall and ring of fire outside bar!), attentive service and tasty margaritas but the food is beyond mediocre, outrageously priced and meagerly portioned to boot! Pros: atmosphere, margies, service Cons: bland food, overpriced more

Yummy Margaritas 1/29/2003

They make great margaritas here. Really strong and delicous. I like the courtyard too. The food isn't so great, but it's ok to soak up the tequila! Great for a frosty after work treat. Pros: good drinks Cons: food not so great more

R N' Roll Hangout 8/26/2002

This place has the best Margheritas in L.A...I also think the food is among the best Mexican in town...for instance, all entree's come with a salad that has a butter dressing, the BEST!! Also their home style soups are always fresh, and included in the complete meal. This place is pricey, but what did you expect across from Paramount Studios? One of my favorite haunts in L.A.!! more

Good Margs, So-So Food 6/27/2002

I love Lucy's patio and their margaritas are really tasty. It's a great spot for an after-work drink with friends on a sunny evening. The waiters are very friendly and go out of their way to accomodate customers. Unfortunately, the food they serve isn't the greatest. The vegetarian tostado salad is pretty good--but everything else is rather bland. Overall--stick with the margs and you'll be very happy. Pros: Good margaritas, Friendly service, Easy parking Cons: Bland food, Not open late more

Expensivo 5/20/2002

This is a neat place, with a great patio and some tasty 'ritas. But the prices are jacked! Bean burritos = $9. My advice: get a pitcher of 'ritas then eat the free chips they bring. Are the prices so high because Paramount is right across the street? more

Great for a tryst 5/20/2002

You can tell, when you look around the patio, that some patrons would not be happy if their families saw them here. Perhaps the potency of the margaritas adds to my conspiratorial notions, but it seems that there are an awful lot of sideways glances, nervous over-the-shoulder looks and uncomfortable seat shifts here. And that's why this place is so very good. That, and the fact that the drinks are tangy and strong (and should be, for the somewhat high prices) and the courtyard is lovely. The salsa, though, I wasn't crazy about. more

El Mediocre 5/16/2002

Kind of a nice atmosphere to this traditional LA-style Mexican eatery, situated directly across from Paramount Studios. Just like the movies that the Hollywood moguls crank out across the street, the food here is pretty bland. The salsa is mild, the mole is sweet and the clientele is distinctly Anglo. Still, the wait staff is friendly, the back patio is pleasant and the food isn't horrible, just a little plain. Pros: Atmosphere, Patio Cons: Food more
