Great breakfast - bring plenty of cash 6/23/2010

I have gone to the LC for years. When I had lots of cash, I didn't think a think of the prices. But now I'm looking for a job and have to consider every dollar spent. $10 or $12 bucks for eggs, even a big breakfast, is too much. I think Louisiana Cafe should downsize the portions (just like TGIF Fridays) and downsize the cost accordingaly. I just won't go there again until I win the lottery. Pros: Oustanding food and pleasant service Cons: Way too spendy, closes too early, parking more

Very busy, I know why! 5/25/2009

I can in today (Memorial Day) and it was packed! Despite having to wait for a table because it was so packed my family and I had a great time. The hostess was very sweet and sat us as soon as she cleaned a table. As soon as we sat down our server was there with water. I could tell the servers were very busy (it looked like only 4 of them for the whole place) but that did not give our server a bad attitude. We have come here before and gotten poor service from a male server but I am glad we gave it a second chance. The food was great as usual. Pros: Great service, way too much food, parking Cons: busy, spendy more

Since when is Louisiana a suburb of yuk? 12/13/2008

Firstly can we get someone actually from Louisiana to cook here? Cons: all more

Great food, great staff, great neighborhood 4/30/2008

I'm a fairly frequent patron of the Louisiana, and while I will often go for the Tex-Mex and take most of it home with me (the portions are *huge*) I sometimes scale back to the great bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and sourdough toast. The coffee is good, and service people are great. While the monster-sized signature dishes are a little spendy, they're pretty good if you realize you're getting at least two meals out of it. I've often done a split-plate on the cajun breakfast and still had left overs. Pros: Great food, very large portions Cons: Sometimes a little hard to get a table at peak weekend hours more

Rude Management and wait staff!!!! 4/26/2008

I used to patron Louisiana Cafe often, but the quality of their food (which can be good at times) became soooooo outweighed by how rude the management and wait staff that I vowed never to go back. However, I received a gift card from a friend recently and did not want it to go to waste...in short, in the times that I have gone back (at least three) to use my gift card, their ""gift card reader"" has been down every time. Mind you that these have all been weekends, when they are at their busiest. Of course, when asking if there was any other way to use the card, again to the response of rude management and wait staff, I was given no further alternative. What made me finally write this review is that this time I called before going to LA, and surprise surprise, their ""card reader isn't working"". If you like a good breakfast regardless of the price or friendliness of the people who you tip, then this is the place for you. If you are sick of spending $25 on breakfast for two and getting treated like junk, then I suggest you find another local greasy spoon! Pros: If you are lucky, you may get a hot breakfast. Cons: Poor/rude service, very pricey! more

Good Breakfast Spot! 1/15/2008

Louisiana cafe has excellent breakfasts just be sure to bring your appetite or ask for a container to bring some home. Service generally lacks promptness and I found it difficult to get a second cup of coffee (which is quite good). Substitutions, such as fruit instead of hashbrowns, are a dollar more so eating ""healthier"" is more expensive. If I wanted Oatmeal I'ld stay home. Pros: Parking, Cleanliness, bright Cons: Service more

How many second chances should I give this place? 3/18/2007

I have been eating at the Louisiana Cafe since it was a tiny 10 table place further down Selby by Fleur de Lis-- it's been nearly twelve years. The food has always been really good: plentiful portions, spicy for those nursing a hangover, and kid-friendly, too. But it isn't that little cafe anymore and I feel it. The past few times I have eaten there with my family, our food took FOREVER (not a large group) and there were no apologies on behalf of the staff. As a veteran of the service industry, I feel there is NO EXCUSE for servers treating guests rudely or for managers not taking guest comments to heart. As another reviewer mentioned, there's a lot of competition out there and plenty of other choices within a mile. Check it out for yourself-- the food is good, but I'm not sure I'm giving this Cafe one more second chance myself. Pros: tasty breakfast and lunch fare Cons: extremely popular/busy, slow kitchen, some rude waitstaff more

best breakfast ever 2/8/2006

I've eaten many a breakfast here and have had something different every time. it's all great. I highly recommend the crab cake benedict - eggs benedict with crab cakes instead of sausage patties. very very tasty and filling. great, prompt service and you definitely get your money's worth. my favorite breakfast spot. more

disappointing 1/8/2006

This restaurant came highly recommended from someone in the neighborhood. The atmosphere had a good feel, and the service was fine, but the breakfast was very disappointing. I ordered the ""farmer's breakfast"" which is scrambled eggs with a giant hashbrown and cheddar cheese on top. I was suprised by the quantity--mainly the size of the hashbrown--but I had keep mining the potatoes for where to find the scrambled eggs. When I got to them, it looked more like one egg than two. And although the hashbrown was enormous, it was so greasy that I could barely eat it. The prices here were way too high for the what I ended up getting ($8.95 for that??!!). The coffee was and the atmosphere were the main highpoints, the service was average, and the food was disappointing. I'd be willing to give it one more try, but I wasn't too impressed. Pros: coffee, nice neighborhood, easy parking Cons: greasy food, high prices for value more

Poor treatment 11/20/2005

The food and service are usually very good at the Louisiana Cafe, however today a member of the wait staff copped an attitude and instead of politely asking people waiting to be seated to move back from the hosting station, he chose to yell not once but twice at us. After having already waited for 20 minutes to be seated we decided to go to another restaurant. Upon returning home we called the manager to lodge a complaint and he just didn't get it. This whole treatment has now changed our perception of the Louisiana Cafe and we will not return there despite having been patrons for 15 years as they were a valued part of our neighberhood. Louisiana Cafe there is a lot of competition out there and no matter how arrogant you are you can always lose business. Pros: Good food, Good Value Cons: Snotty Wait staff, No waiting area, Manager not responsiv more

Experience 5/25/2004

I have gone there several times with a group. The service is always excellent and prompt. The food is always good and a lot for your money. All around a good place to eat. Pros: Good for Groups more
