Food is basic and nothing exciting (but people believe good food at a good price is needed in the area) Pros: location Cons: poorly managed more

Great for a Dinner Party and Excellent Desserts 3/27/2008

My family celebrated my birthday here for dinner last Saturday night. There were 8 of us total and overall it was a pleasant experience for everyone. I had made a reservation for 6:30pm and we were seated immediately which I thought was very efficient. We shared the roasted pepper hummus and calamari for appetizers. The hummus was flavorful yet mild, I just wish they gave more slices of toast--they only gave about 8 small slices which just wasn't enough. However we used the complimentary bread to eat the rest. The calamari was good; nothing really extraordinary. My aunt had the Goat Cheese & Proscuitto Salad and said it was tasty but just wished there was more goat cheese overall since it was a small sprinkling. Pros: Good service, unique desserts, reasonable prices Cons: Parking is slim but it IS Boston more

Good service, nice atmosphere, great prices 3/17/2008

I recently went to Laurel for a dinner with a group of friends. Our server was friendly and attentive and the food was decent. I got the pork tenderloin special, which was good. All of my friends enjoyed their meals as well. I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, not too stuffy, comfortable and inviting and, you can't beat the prices! I would go back anytime. Pros: Service, value, ambience Cons: None that I can think of more

Food, Service & Atmosphere: A great overall experience 1/23/2008

Some friends and I had dinner at Laurel last weekend, and we couldn't have been more pleased. It was pretty busy (this was 7 pm on a Saturday night,) so there was a wait, but it gave us the opportunity to have a couple of drinks at the welcoming bar with the very friendly, very skilled bartender. When our table was ready, we received attentive service and the waitstaff was accomodating to our one friend who was vegetarian, and one friend that had a few special requests when ordering. We started off with the lobster, spinach and artichoke dip and were thrilled by this innovative twist on spinach/artichoke dip. Really good stuff. Pros: ambience, bar & bartenders, entrees & vegetarian fare Cons: parking more

Quality of freshness is unsurpassed~! 12/3/2007

WOW! This was a wonderful experience for us in the South End from the actual building, which is attractive and inviting, to the allure of the ambiance inside! As you walk in, you see their bar presented to your left, and the beautiful restaurant unfolds to your right. An efficient hostess seated us quickly. more

Welcoming atmosphere with great food.... 10/23/2007

Our family has wanted to visit Laurel Grill for some time and we finally made it in for a long overdue visit. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We had a short wait for a table, which enabled us to have some drinks at the bar provided by Laurel's charming bar tender. Pros: atmosphere, service and food more

Great food, great atmosphere, a good family pick! 10/18/2007

We had an enjoyable night out with our family and stopped at Laurels for dinner. I liked the family atmosphere and felt like we had plenty of room. The tables are nicely spread out. The waitstaff was prompt (and patient despite spilled milk) and the service was excellent. We didn't have to wait long even with a big group. The waitress was very accomodating to the kids. Our meals were prepared well and delicious. I think this restaurant is a great place to go. Excellent food, reasonable prices, comfortable atmosphere, good drink menu!! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Boston is not close to home for me.... more

terrible service - extremely unaccomodating of food allergies 9/9/2007

I attended a birthday dinner party at Laurel over Labor Day weekend. SEeing as this restaurant received accolades for vegetarian fare, I am even more disappointed in my meal. While ordering, I informed the waitress of my food allergies and vegetarianism. She looked at me like I was an alien. I said I couldn't eat wheat and dairy - a reasonable request and would accept any type of vegetable, salad, whatever. I received an appetizer size salad and a side of steamed green beans - without apology. The music was weird, the service was bad. The servers were visibly socializing and folding napkins at a table while my water glass sat empty and my entree was embarrassing. Apparently the salad person ""didn't show up"" but I'm not sure that's an excuse for what the kitchen produced. I'm writing this as a 6 year Boston resident - I've been to many meals at many restaurants and I present this same request. this is by far the worst service I have EVER received. Pros: drinks menu Cons: service, staff, menu accomodations more

No longer a Vegetarian restaurant. 6/8/2007

I have been to Laurel before and loved it. Last night I went and the menu is no longer the same. Only vegetarian entree is a pasta dish and it's pretty easy to get a pasta dish at most restaurants in Boston. I am very disappointed in the new menu and City Search needs to remove the Vegetarian tag for Laurel. more

I will never go to Laurel again! 1/22/2007

I have eaten at Laurel before, but never will again. Four friends and I made a reservation for a Saturday night and arrived 30 minutes early so we could have a drink at the bar first. When the time for our reservation came around we were told by the host to, ""get comfortable because it's going to be awhile."" After waiting an hour during which time we periodically checked in and were repeatedly told there was Cons: The staff more

""I am not offended, I don't cook the stuff!"" 1/4/2007

I entertain often and had wanted to go to this restaurant for a while. I took my two closest friends. The chicken was raw and missing the proscuitto, the potatoes were cold and the tuna was not even close to the way my friend had ordered it and was missing the rice noodles. I mentioned this to our waitress and she replied "" it looks rare to me but I like mine raw,"" she did take the chicken back and returned it still cold... we ate what we could. At the end of the meal our waitress asked how the meal was, when I explained our experience she replied, ""I am not offended, I don't cook the stuff!"" Boston has so more

Inventive Menu without being precious 11/7/2006

In a few lunches and half a dozen dinners, every dish I've tasted was at minimum very good, more often than not excellent. Lamb shank reliable in many incarnations, as are pastas. Flavor combinations are generally vibrant and richly composed, yet well balanced. Salads are dressed expertly, neither dry nor drenched in goo. Friendly and efficient service all around, but an even jollier time can be had dining at the bar, especially if you're a single diner--you won't lack for conversation. Cocktails are expertly mixed. Pros: Lighting and sound level quite pleasant Cons: I only get there when visiting from New York more

Best food and service in Back Bay! 10/29/2006

Took wife to restaurant on 4th Wedding Anniversary. What a restaurant! Terrific food served by energetic wairtress combined for a perfect dining experience. Food was nothing short of blissful. I will be frequenting that Laurel's from now on. Pros: Everything Cons: Parking. But what can you do, it's the back bay! more

Great and Inexpensive 6/5/2006

I was truly surpised to see some negative reviews about this restaurant. I live very close by and this restaurant is my go to place when there is no food in the house. The dinners are great and very affordable. My favorites are the veal meatloaf ($10) and the seafood ravioli. They also have a great chocolate fondue dessert. However, the best part of this restaurant is the Sunday brunch. All meals are practically diner prices and they are all great. They also give diners these incredible sweet, lemon poppy muffins in the morning- I could eat a dozen. I also like the Eggs Benedict and the Veal Hash (incredible). This place is definitely one of my favorites. Pros: inexpensive, great food more

so disappointed 4/5/2006

read the reviews here and got really excited about reasonably priced fare in a nice restaurant. the venue is spacious, and the waitstaff was friendly. we went at 830p on a sat night, so there was no wait. but the food - ehck. the duck i got was just overcooked, and the chicken my bf had was so dry that even he couldn't finish it (and normally, he'll eat most anything.). also, if you're in any way uncomfortable with the possibility of a bar filled by all guys and few/no women, prob not the place for you. Pros: spacious Cons: bad food more

HORRIBLE 11/16/2005

I've eaten here twice. Both times, the food and the service were horrid!!!!! I will never step foot in this establishment again! more

Nice meal at a good price! 10/27/2005

Laurel is a great place to go if you want to have a nice sit-down meal in a classy atmosphere but not spend a lot of money. Their prices are very reasonable with most of the entrees around $15. Last time I was there I had the salmon, which was done nicely. Our table shared several desserts, all of which were delicious. The best thing about this place, however, for me is the price. It's hard to find this kind of nice atmosphere with a reasonable price. If you're looking more for very very good food, there are better places to go, but you will not regret going to Laurel if you want to be conservative with your cash. Highly recommended as a good value. I have always had good service at the tables, but the bar service is not great. Pros: good value, nice atmosphere, good location more

Apalling Service 10/7/2005

Our Opentable reservation was cancelled by the restaurant. When I called to re-confirm, the staff was incredibly rude to me and wouldn't acknowledge the reservation. If we hadn't had a large party, we would have gone elsewhere. Food was decent, good prices. Bartender was extremely rude. We were seated half an hour after reservation time and had to stand by the bar and wait. Instead of asking us nicely to move away from the door, the bartender very rudely and loudly told other patrons that we were blocking the door. We were only there b/c there was nowhere else for us to go!! The abusive service makes this restaurant experience not worth your while. more

Mmmmmm chocolate fondue 9/18/2005

Laurel is a gem. It was our first time visiting Laurel last Saturday night. We made reservations on-line earlier that day. My boyfriend and I were seated promptly. The wait staff was nice (thanks Adam) and helpful. I ordered the salmon and it was delicious! I tried my boyfriends mash potatoes and they melted in my mouth. The chocolate fondue desert..well.. lets just say I am still dreaming about it. Well be back for more! Pros: Value, Location, Service more

Was not impressed with the food 8/29/2005

The staff wasn't bad, not good, but not bad, so was the food. The food was ok, just ok. For a restaurant in Boston I was a bit disappointed, maybe if the restaurant would've been in the suburbs it would've been ok. Towards the front of the dining area there is a glass wall that allows everyone coming in to see you and for you to see them making dinner not so romantic ... feels like having dinner at the lobby from work. The price was ok but I was looking for something a little more on the romantic side, maybe that had an effect on my dinning experience. With so many places to go in Boston I would not recommend this one Pros: Average food & servic, Sterilized atmosphere Cons: price more
