Best Cozy & Elegant! 9/29/2007

Great wine list - great food! This is not one of those huge outfits where it's easy for the customer to get lost in the shuffle. The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic evening or a relaxing lunch. Every table feels like it's been set just for you. And the food is solid! You will not leave hungry because you will want to finish everything on your plate. Bonus - Permit parking in the area doesn't go into effect until 11pm. So, if you dine before then you can bypass the valet and take advantage of the nearby street parking. Yes, this is in Los Angeles - you haven't lost your mind. more

Great Atmosphere - - Great Food 9/25/2007

I highly recommend LG to anyone who hasn't tried it. The setting is relaxed and comfortable, the service friendly and efficient, and the food creative and delicious. I hadn't been there in over a year, and the menu had changed dramatically. I asked, and found out there are new owners and a new chef. All the changes are definitely for the best. They've even added weekend brunch. For starters, I love their cheese plate - you get a generous portion of three cheeses and perfectly toasted bread. Their mac&cheese is rich and creamy. I also recommend the beet salad and the dueling tartares. For main dishes, the trout is outstanding. The fish is light and flaky and the garlic sauce and asparagus is a perfect compliment. On the other end of the food spectrum, I also love the porterhouse, but the portion is big, so you'd better be ready to eat. A friend of mine swears by the rigatoni, but I've never had it myself. And the classic burger is truly a classic. The meat is juicy and delicious and is perfect with some of the Stell Artois they now serve on tap. The wine list has also been given a major overhaul, and the selection is thoughtful and varied, with some great bargains. I also went to brunch this past weekend, and I was surprised by how comprehensive the menu is. I started with a delicious cup of coffee and a complimentary mixed salad and had the chicken hash. The portion was a bit too big, but the hash was moist and tasty and the potatoes crispy and brown. I thought the addition of some yellow bell peppers added just the perfect amount of sweetness to the savory dish. I also had a bellini with just enough peach syrup and a fresh wedge that was light and refreshing. This is one of my new favorite restaurants. It's so rare to find a place that is unpretentious and very moderately priced with great food and a totally relaxed atmosphere. Definitely give it a try - especially if you haven't been there in a while. You'll be very pleasantly surprised. more

Brunch: Amazing Coffee+Thoughtful Menu=My new Sunday hangout 9/24/2007

I had a chance to try the new brunch menu at the Larchmont Grill this weekend. Let me start off by saying that the coffee served at the LG is amazing. I can't tell you how important coffee is to a good breakfast. I had the mini-muffin starter which was very fresh and FREE. My friend had the yogurt parfait which looked a little runnier than I like, but apparently tasted good. After our starters and coffee, I had the lemon ricotta pancakes, and my friend had one of their omelettes. My pancakes had that perfect balance of moist and fluffy, if that makes sense. Overall, the menu just seems more thoughtful than most of the brunch choices in LA. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. There is a small parking lot, but parking is very easy in that neighborhood. Service was attentive, atmosphere was comfortable, and the space is tastefully decorated. Great place to meet friends, no wait for a table, and a free starter...HELLO! I will be back. Pros: Easy to get a seat Cons: Easy to drive past if you don't have GPS more

Delicious, Simple comfort food 8/23/2007

Great atmosphere, very homey and really, really good food. I had the salmon wrapped in bacon and it was out of this world. Everyone is friendly, great service and the mac and cheese is just what you want it to be-delicious! Pros: Great food and warm atmosphere! more

Charming little place. 7/27/2007

Been to Larchmont Grill a couple of times for lunch. The food is pretty good, had a burger the first time and a salad this time (good portion size almost too big). The inside is nice, they also have an outside eating area which can get a little loud as it faces Melrose. The servers are nice but the service is a little slow (food coming out of the kitchen). Pros: Good portion size Cons: food coming from the kitchen a little slow more

Great experience all around 6/11/2007

I love this restaurant. I have been twice and the first time I liked it but the second time it was fantastic. I am really happy I gave it another try! I had the salmon with brussel sprouts as a side dish and it was scrumptious. The stafff couldn't be nicer and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. My friends and I all really enjoyed ourselves. They have a tasty wine selection also. Pros: food, wine, service more

a real place with real food that's really, really good! 5/27/2007

As a concierge for a very high profile LA hotel, I eat at a wide variety of restaurants. Lately a lot of the upscale spots seem to blend together. Although some of them have excellent food, nothing impressed me enough to make me feel like making it a regular spot...until now. The Larchmont Grill is so not like everything else. It is homey without being dull, it is lively without being pretentious, and the classic American fare is outstanding. I started with the BLT salad and had no idea a salad could be so delicious. Next came an amuse bouche from the chef, a tuna tartare with mango and avacado, a great trio of tastes. My friend doesn't eat fish, so he was presented with a beef brisket sampler that was equally amusing. For a main course, I had sweet and spicy baby back ribs which were prepared to perfection. The sauce actually was both sweet and spicy and went so well with the mashed potatos and cucumber slaw. The apple crumb was our dessert of choice and it had been freshly prepared by the pastry chef that day. A wonderful end to a great meal. The service was also remarkable, and the whole evening I felt I was an invited guest at a friend's home. I only wished I lived closer to Melrose, but it was worth the drive and I look forward to many returns. more

I will DEFINANTLY be back! 3/29/2007

My boyfriend and I went here last night for the first time, just to have a nice little dinner. We walked in to see this cute little restaurant. I love it... It feels so homey. We opted to sit outside because it was a really nice night and it seemed a little quieter, a little more romantic. Our server was wonderful and cheery. So nice. We were completely starved when we got there and ordered the winter salad to start, then I got the Short Ribs, and he got the Burger. We also got a side of the creamed corn gratin. The winter salad was so fresh and light. It was a pretty generous portion, and the vinegarette was really good. It was perfect to start with. We also ate all our bread wich was suprisingly really good... Crispy and warm and soft all at once. Hey... bread is important! Hehe. Anyway it was such a nice atmosphere with the heaters on outside and the candlelight. We had a wonderful time even just waiting for our food. Then when we got our main courses... My short ribs (tender tender beef in an almost stew base) were so unbelevabley wonderful. I actually couldn't stop excalming how good it was. He loved his burger and said it was one of the best he's had in a while. The fries were good and the creamed corn gratin was so interesting! Sweet and fluffy topped with onion-y bread crumbs. But the short ribs... I couldn't stop they were so good. I was stuffed and wishing I had more room to finish it. So flavorful and tender, I can't even explain. Absolutely wonderful. I will definantly have that again, and I'm so excited to go back and try more things on the menu! And we live so close that we're going to walk there! I'm so happy to have this great little restaurant in my neighborhood! Pros: Amazing delicious food, great service, beautiful ambiance Cons: none!! more

A dining MUST! 3/28/2007

This little gem is a must. Great food, great atmosphere with ZERO pretension! I had their winter salad, which was portioned/priced just right, then moved on to a HUGE/THICK cut pork chop that was surprisingly juicy and well cooked (you would have never guessed that a 1lb pork chop could be this good!) And for dessert . . . . . . . FROZEN CHOCOLATE COVERED BANANAS (with a little peanut butter on the inside!)!!!!!!!!!!!!! As a full time diner (because I can't cook) I look for non-invasive service. And I have to say that my server was exceptionally knowledgeable without interfering with our dinner. They even have " Burger Night" on Thursdays which has a special menu with a variety of incredible burgers in addition to their regular menu. Wine Selection was excellent, highlighting well chosen selections from California's coast that are as delicious as they are reasonably priced. Needless to say, this place will be a regular in my dining repertoire. Pros: Great Value, Service, Food and Wine Cons: This place can fill up fast! Reservations recommended! more

Everyone is Welcome 3/22/2007

I have been to the Larchmont Grill twice and both times I thought it was great. They have great food without all of the great food attitude. It seems to be a local hang out since arriving diners stop to chit chat with fellow diners on their way to their table. This only made the experience that much more charming. Maybe if I go there enough times I will be doing the same thing. Whether you are dressed down in a collared shirt or coming from the office wearing a tie you will feel comfortable. Another attractive part is the bar which is small and intimate and has, if need, a TV to track ""the game."" Larchmont Grill should be thought of as a destination resturant and as the place to go when you can't think of where to go. more
