RUINED MY HAIR- STAY AWAY 11/11/2011

Even though I had a very bad Keratin treatment at La Tete, I did not want to write a bad review and hoped instead that they would help me get my hair back in shape. Almost 3 months later I have no choice but to warn others of how AWFUL this place is, both in skill and in customer service. I went in for a keratin treatment and have always loved my hair afterwards at another salon. At La Tete, my hair came out frizzier and drier than when I went in! I was heading overseas to 3 family weddings and was horrified at how bad my hair looked after I washed it. I contacted the salon and they said I needed ""Infuse"" so I drove over to get the product and they wanted to charge me $40 for it! I protested that they had ruined my hair so they had me go in and had someone look at it. She gave me a bottle of Morroccan oil to use, but all it did was make my hair greasy. All my dreams of having great family photos were dashed as I saw my hair greasy and limp from the oil. (If I didn't use it my hair was like dry wire) Then my hair started falling out in clumps when I wash it or just throughout the day I have to brush off so many strands of hair from my shirt. When I returned, I contacted the salon but could not get anyone to call back. I finally got someone and they said to come in and at minimum they would do a haircut. I went today and found out I was booked for a 30 min slot for haircut with no other solution. I asked what about conditioning treatment or some other solution but they were rude and just gave me a haircut. The stylist never said ""Sorry about how bad your hair came out"" and was extremely unfriendly. When I tried to tell her how upset I had been that no one seemed to care about the fact that they ruined my hair, she was very snotty and said ""We gave you the oil, what else could we do?"" I was shocked that the manager never came over to look at my hair damage, nor another stylist to maybe brainstorm about solutions. The stylist also lied and said she had called me twice, but the manager I spoke to apologized that no one called me back as she had been in the other shop. Overall they were so unprofessional and my hair still looks horrible. I spent hundreds of dollars on their keratin treatment, and hundreds more on shampoos, conditioners, masques, and vitamins. DO NOT HAVE YOUR HAIR RUINED HERE. STAY AWAY! more

Not great 6/27/2011

I went to Le Tete salon late last week to get bangs cut and the layers in my hair cleaned up. I had Buywithme coupon and was really looking forward to experiencing a Newbury Street Salon. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The stylist cut my bangs just the way i wanted them and they came out great, but when I asked for layers she wasn't sure what I was asking for. This could have been a miscommunication between us but I didn?t end up getting my layers. I decided to err on the side of caution and just leave it the way it was with the new bangs that I love. The stylist was not very talkative, in fact she seemed to only realize she should say something about 15 min into my hair cut. Oh well maybe she?s just not a conversationalist, but it was a little uncomfortable. My experience was not bad; however I had an appointment at the same time as my friend, who did not enjoy her experience at all. Her stylist did not listen to her requests even after consulting the picture she brought many times. She got feather extensions and they were not put in very well, she had to tighten the extension herself. She also felt her cut was horrible and choppy. She ended up getting a discount for a return visit but I don?t think she?ll be doing that It is a nice place, but I guess I expected more from a Newbury Street Salon. The receptionist was excellent, very friendly. But the rest of the staff was just eh. I wouldn't go back there, but maybe they just treated us this way because we had a coupon and were not paying full price. that?s not good business if you ask me. I won?t be going back. more

Extremely dissatsfied 6/26/2011

I got a Buywithme coupon for a hair cut and feather extensions for this Newbury St Salon. I was looking forward to it since its Newbury St, as they usually have great reputations. I was really dissatisfied becuase I dont feel that the hairdresser listended to me. She was nice and polite, but she cut off more length than I had wanted, and it came out too choppy and uneven. I got feather extensions as well but she didnt put them in very well; I had to tighten the clamp when I got home after they slid down and almost out of my hair. She did give me 15% off my next cut with her, but I was pretty upset with the choppy cut I got, so I won't be returning. more

horrible everything 6/17/2011

Where do I start? \r \r I bought a buywithme coupon to get feather extensions put in before going out of town to see my boyfriend, whom I haven't seen in nearly a year, and decided to get a bang trim while I was at it. \r \r I called the salon 3 hours before my appointment to ask if I could come in earlier and was told it was booked so I came in at my scheduled appointment time. After looking for a parking spot for an hour (it is newbury street, so it was expected) I arrive to the salon to be told that I can come back the next day if I want, because they only had about 10 feathers left. Something that the owner might have wanted to suggest to me when I called 3 hours earlier instead of looking for parking on a Thursday night in Boston. \r \r Since I was unable to come in the next day, I chose feathers from the sorry selection that they had and just decided to suck it up and deal with it. Next comes the bang trim....She literally HACKED my hair. I asked to make them choppy because they were too uniform, which you would think a stylist on Newbury street would understand, and instead she cut them EXACTLY the same but about a half inch above my eyebrows, despite the fact that I told her I like them touching my eyebrows. Since she was standing in front of me so I couldn't see the mirror most of the time, when I caught a glace at what she was doing I stopped her and tried to re-explain to her what I was talking about. She then got the owner who blamed it on my ""cowlick"" (I'm sorry that I do not have time to blowdry my bangs before I go to the salon after working outside) and decided to teach her how to do it by making one snip and leaving an extremely unexperienced ""stylist"" to finish guessing what she was doing. I finally told her to just leave them alone and do the extensions. \r \r Literally not even 12 hours later they started falling out. I called the salon to speak with the owner about the entirely negative experience and was told I would get a call back by 2, then by 4, finally at 6 I called the salon and asked to hold for him since, as I told him, I was not going to be in Boston for 2 weeks. Not only was the receptionist outrageously catty and rude, but the owner was as well, laughing snidely and saying that he didn't know what I did to cause the extensions to fall out (sleeping, maybe??) but that it was clearly my fault and not the fault of his very underexperienced staff and stylist. I was refused any refund and told that ""services were performed"" and that that is what I paid for. A bang trim and extensions I could have done better myself? \r \r Horrible. Go anywhere but here, don't let the fact that its on Newbury St fool you.\r \r Additionaly, this is the first review I have ever written, and I have eaten at a lot of crappy restauraunts and gotten a lot of bad haircuts. Just the combination of the horrible customer service, lack of professionalism and lack of experience with stylists on NEWBURY ST was too much. I just had to warn people. more

Love it! 12/22/2010

My stylist, David Orlando, left another salon and went to La Tete so I followed him here....he is amazing! \r \r I have had a great experience at La Tete. I went to Erica for a straightening treatment and it was by far the best one that I have had. \r \r The staff is really friendly, I love that it is a small salon as opposed to one of the big Newbury Street factories, and the location cannot be beat. more

I've had more success at Supercuts 11/4/2008

Really unfriendly stylists, they dont like talking to customers at all and i think theyre generally right out of beauty school since they cut my hair really badly, plus my color was uneven b/c they missed pieces of hair. The bathrooms were really nasty too, with water and hair and stuff on the ground, i dont think they clean them much. Pros: easy to get coupons Cons: nasty salon, not well trained, unfriendly more

overpriced and unprofessional 11/4/2008

I have been here about 3 times because I have gotten coupons, and all three times they butchered my hair. The first time I went the assistant was sloppy and got water everywhere when she was washing my hair, in my eyes and all down my back, and she didn't seem to care. That visit I had my hair dyed, and though I wanted to go a dark brown my hair ended up looking brassy, and when I asked if they could fix it they blew me off and said there was no time to do my hair again, and that I should call back for an appointment. I came in again just for haircuts, and both times they cut my hair uneven. They give away tons of coupons because they do a bad job and need the business, don't be fooled! their prices are wayyyy too high for the poor service they deliver Pros: convenience of being on Newbury St. Cons: overpriced, unprofessional staff, poor service more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. 6/15/2008

I am in love with La Tete and have not disappointed. I have never gone for color but have been going to Melinda for a year and haven't gotten a bad cut. The people there are professional, kind, and listen to you which is the most important thing of all. The atmosphere is great and I never feel rushed, always comfortable. The price is also phenomenal esp. since it's right on Newbury St., a true gem. I highly recommend Melinda as a person and as a hair stylist, she is wonderful! My hair is not the easiest to work with and she always manages to make it work for me. I went home for a while recently and had to have my hair cut by someone else...never again! more

Great Color Experience 2/1/2006

I recently visited Newbury Street. I'm from Baltimore, MD and was here visiting friends. My hair was a mess the color was unthinkable and the first thing I wanted to do was go to a Newbury Street Salon after hearing all the hype. The experience was the best I've had in a long time. The color was outstanding. I was not planning on having my hair cut, but I was so comfortable with my stylist (Melinda) that I went all out and I'm so glad I did because I LOVE IT!!! Everyone there made me so comfortable and the staff interacted well with all their clients. I didn't feel out of place at all, even the other clients interacted with me. I can't wait to come back to visit my friends and my new Favorite Salon LATETE. My expectations of a Newbury Street Salon were all meet 10 fold. Pros: Staff, Friendly Clients, Great Atmosphere Cons: I Live in Baltimore more

Not recommended!! Awful 1/14/2006

I went to a couple of people who work there. Both were awful. Not only was the color way off, but the cut was disgusting and not what I asked for. The staff are all very boring and should go back to beauty school. Overall, both times were an awful experience! Cons: expensive, staff is awful more
