Fun, unique, great food, low price 7/1/2008

Great, fun place to take friends and family; the dock setting is unique and the food is great - you can taste the grilled flavor of the burgers and freshness of the fish. And the price is very reasonable. Pros: Menu, quality, price, location Cons: Very busy at times more

Awesome fried oysters! 9/24/2007

If going by boat, get there early as the slips fill up quickly. There are two extra slips around the West side of the Cafe. If the slips are all full, it is definately worth the wait. Food is outstanding and mixed drinks are modest. Pros: Full sunshine Cons: Closes at sunset, no outdoor lighting. more

What a find! 8/3/2007

Someone at work mentioned this place, so a good girlfriend and I headed over there last night. We made it time for their Happy Hour - which is from 3 to 6 PM, and were pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly, and were greated by amazingly friendly staff. This place is so much fun, the food is good and reasonably priced. I can't believe I've lived in Portland for 10 years and just found this place! Pros: island/beach atmosphere, on the water Cons: the ramp - don't where heals! more

I love this place! 7/17/2007

I discovered this little oasis a couple of years ago and have been returning every week during their open season. The food is good, service excellent with all of the staff calling my dog ""Bear"" and me by name and the atmosphere is totally relaxing...like being on a beach in Mexico. This is my favorite hangout and well worth the trip. You will love it too, unless you are the starchy uptight kind. Pros: very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, great staff and good casual dining Cons: it is not open year round due to weather constraints more

Best Place to Go on a Nice Day! 5/9/2007

This is the best little place on the river. Yes you might wait a while for a table if the weather is good, but its fun wait. Hey, have a beer, or a mixed drink. Check out the good looking staff. Walk on the dock. Pros: food, service, sights, everything Cons: Very cold during bad weather more

Keeping on saling ...past this cafe 10/13/2006

Had the unfortunate experience of being hungry and thirsty after a day on the river....this is strictly the Jantzen beach crowd.....service is average, food-grease city....live music some weekends-generally marginal to outright awful music....the better choice....stop at Salty's if you want a good dining experience. Pros: lively beach crowd Cons: food, music more

Love the ambiance of this place, I feel like I am on an Island, great drinks, good food. 7/14/2006

You can pull your boat up to the dock and tie off to eat here, or come by car and park. We have done it all, it is beautiful to sit on the dock looking out on the Columbian River and dine in this ""Island"" attmosphere. If it is a beautiful day, plan on a little wait, but it is well worth it. They have a fun bar-great drinks, good food, somewhat of a limited menu, but really good. more

My favorite secret is out! 3/10/2006

Island Cafe has long been one of my favorite (I also recommend the Hidden Bay Cafe on the other side of the island). These are 2 of Portland's best kept secrets. Although, it doesn't seem like much of a secret anymore. The Island Cafe's dock is full of boats, & tables full of summertime fans from open to close on summer days - especially wknds. Very cool place to sit outside & have lunch, dinner, cocktails, or breakfast. I like to go by boat, but usually have to wait for mooring space. Casual summer fun atmosphere, can't beat the river view, good eats, inexpensive, nice crew. Dogs are also welcome. There's a bowl of dog biscuits for your best friend. I look forward to them re-opening for the season in April. Highly recommended (even though it's crowded enough already)! ;-) Pros: summer ambiance, summer drinks & eats, boat tie-up Cons: crowded, seasonal, table/mooring waits more

Great Day for Relaxing 5/30/2004

This restaurant was fun with lots of boats, great food, outside on the water. We had a group of us there and they treated us like royalty. Lots of good drinks, and the onion pedals are a must have along with the Columbian burger. We will be back for drinks, good food and a relaxing time. One of the most relaxing nights my family has had in over 2 years in Portland. Pros: ambience, outside seating, great value more

Hidden oasis 1/13/2004

This is a hidden gem for Hayden Bay residents. IT has a very local flavor, with the servers knowing much of their customers by name. You are right on the water so there is no more perfect place on a sunny day. The food is good and it is an inexpensive place. Great place to have a drink during the summer or dock your boat for a quick dinner Pros: inexpensive, views, nice people Cons: lack of seating more
