Excellent Spanish Coffee! Great friendly service here & I love the atmosphere here. I stop for HH here whenever possible. Good food, nostalgic original Portland venue!!

It's been difficult to find a nightspot that's geered to the dressy late 20's and 30's crowd. For those tired of the all black-local band-local beer scene, here's a bar and restau...

huber's restaurant 11/24/2011

Worst service I've ever had in Portland, I've given better service when voluteering at soup kitchens. The food was bland and I bet the original owners are turning over in their graves. It's now just a bar with marginal food and the bar is loud and slow..and to top it off...the toilets were plugged and sewer water everywhere...will never go there again. more

Amazing Spanish coffees.Friendly staff.Great food. 3/4/2011

I recently joined a group of friends at Hubers for dinner.I have to say we had a awesome time. The Spanish coffees are a must see! The man who made our Spanish coffees for us was amazing with all that fire and showmanship and funny too. I decided to stick with tradition and have the turkey dinner which was delicious.Just like Thanksgiving. The serving was so large,I couldn't finish it.Our friendly server told us the whole history of the place.Definitely a place to bring out of town guests to experience a Portland tradition. more

Huber's: a big disappointment in service. 1/9/2011

I've lived in Portland for 5 years and have never been to Huber's. A lot of my friends have come here for years, saying it was a great place to meet up, have drinks, enjoy good happy hour food, and Spanish coffee. After the Kevin Hart comedy show on Saturday, January 8th, my wife and I along with 4 of my friends decided to come here to get some late night happy hour and they especially wanted to take me here because I had never been here. We get here and everything is cool. 3 of my friends order Spanish coffee and the guy comes by and puts on a spectacular show in making these drinks. I can tell he had been here for years. My friends tipped him well and he was on his way. As we sat there, enjoying our drinks the waitress comes by and tells us that they are about to close the kitchen so if we want to order we need to let her know. We all said ok. About 2 or 3 minutes later she comes back and we are ready to order. We all order food, I ordered the cheeseburger...simple enough. Another friend of mine ordered the same thing, along with the beef skewers, the quesadillas and something else that escapes me at the moment. As we're sitting there having conversations about the hilarious show we had just seen, she comes back with our entrees, with everything looking pretty good. I get my burger, and my wife starts eating some of my fries. She says that they taste kind of ""old"". I grab a couple and start eating them. The fries tasted like old cold mcdonalds fries ( anyone who has had old mcdonalds fries knows how horrible these fries must have been...and i haven't had mickie d's in over 6 years at LEAST ). So I asked my friend if I could taste one of his fries to see if we got the same caliber of fries. His fries were delicious. So before I dug into my burger, I told my friends, ""I know the kitchen is closing so they may have shut everything off, but I'm not sure. Let me ask the waitress if the kitchen will make me some more fries because my fries aren't that good. If the kitchen is closed, I won't worry about it and I'll just eat my burger."" So I call the waitress over and we start talking about how the fries aren't good and if the kitchen was still open could they fire up some fries before they shut down. No attitude, no nothing. It was a simple question. She told me and I quote, ""It's a 2 dollar burger. What did you expect. If you want me to take the burger back I can."" I said, ""The burger looks fine but the fries are old. I was just wondering if the kitchen was open, I just want a new batch of fries."" She says, ""If you don't want the burger, I can just take it away."" I said,....""Take the burger."" 3 things wrong with waitress. 1.) You never talk down to a customer like they should expect CRAP food because it was 2 dollars. She said it like I ought to be thankful. 2.) Listen first before you open your mouth. All she had to say was the kitchen is closed, I'm sorry. I wouldn't eaten my food, paid my bill, left a tip, and been on my merry way. 3.) Attitude is everything. If you don't like your job, working in the food business, you should quit. You interact with people all day long. Customer service is a key part of any job. This place is lucky to have loyal customers because the bridge has been burned for me. I'm never going back. It's not worth my time. Of course I left no tip and my friends didn't either. One of my friends said, ""Is it possible to leave a negative tip."" And get this, my friends felt so bad that my experience was just plain terrible ( and my waitress was so stupid) that my friend who had the cheeseburger cut his in half and offered it to me After saying don't worry about it, I'm fine...I just took it and said thanks. The burger was phenomenal, especially for 2 bucks. All of that ruined by the service I received. I hope your experience will be better, but I won't be back...ever. more

Great Spanish Coffee, Great Menu, and Great Happy Hour!! 11/10/2010

Huber's was established in 1879, no wonder it's called the oldest restaurant in Portland. When I worked in banking, (in the 80's) this was the go-to-place. Their Spanish Coffee is to die for!! Watching your server make the Spanish Coffee is beyond satisfying, there is no rush, each ingredient goes in slowly being ""kiss...ed"" by the next ingredient, it is set aflame, and just when you think it cannot get any better, the flame gets ""snuffed out"" by the creamy topping! Now, I'm jonesing for one! By the way, the food is delicious, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend Huber's. more

Great Happy Hour Food Menu 4/10/2010

They most definetly do not have a young crowd (at all), but the happy hour food menu is great! The food is actually really good. The bartender is amazing! He seem so relaxed even when it is busy. Pros: The Bartender and Happy Hour Cons: Mostly Old People more

Old school staple 3/22/2010

Starting with your walk down the hall make sure and look at all the old photos. The history adds to your experience of the meal. Next, have the turkey and ham dinner with delicious pumpkin pie. Finally finish with the original Spanish coffee made at your table. Pros: food and atmosphere more

Perfect place for a first date! 10/23/2009

A great little hide-away owned by a multi-generational family who are as sweet and hospitable, as they are successful. Thanksgiving here is a must. Book it now! Pros: Spanish Coffee's Cons: Having to leave more

A DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7/20/2009

The owners of this DUMP are right wing conservative wierdos who only care about money and give whatever they can to the Republicans. They trick nice people into thinking they care about them but they do not. The night manager Tony Huie is a criminal who belongs in jail. When he dies I will throw a party with his face on a dart board and I will toss darts at it all night. The service sucks, the ceiling leaks, and the guys who make the Spanish Coffees want to off themselves. AVOID this place. It's trash. Pros: NOTHING. Cons: James, David, and Tony...thescum who own the joint more

Ta-Da! Here's some boring food for ya! 7/10/2009

This is food my grandmother would love. Salty, room temperature, bland... I guess I just expected so much from this place, only to find out that I should have just gone to Poor Richards instead... and I cannot STAND Poor Richards. But at least it would have saved me some dough. I had previously only gone to Hubers to get the obligatory Spanish coffee, which are indeed good, and the show is always fun. Pros: Spanish Coffee Cons: The fact that the best thing on the menu is a drink. more

great old school place! 6/24/2009

I love hubers, it's got a great atmosphere and comfort food is always appropriate in rainy portland! Our server, Roxanne was just cute as a button and the redhead hostess wasn't too bad herself. :) the wings were great, as was the Spanish coffee. more

Great Happy Hour 6/24/2009

I went during the evening happy hour and loved the atmosphere. Very bustling with life and people! The happy hour food was decent, and the drinks were excellent. The service could have been better, had to flag somebody down whenever we needed help, but it could have been because of how busy it was. Pros: Spanish Coffee is definitely worth the hype Cons: Service needs work more

Childhood memories from 1940's. Yikes. Thanks for keeping it historic and good. Pros: Good food and service Cons: a little noisy in the bar more

Favorite restaurant!!! 6/9/2009

We've eaten at Huber's so many times because we love the atmosphere and the food, and because of the integrity of the owners. Out of all the times in all the many years we've eaten at Huber's there have only been a few times that we were unhappy with our food. We said something and were able to order something else, and on another time they gave us a gift certificate for a free meal. The point is that if there is ever anything not to your liking, the owners at Huber's will ALWAYS make it right. In fact, because of their standard of excellence, they WANT to know if something isn't right because they value their customers, take pride in their restaurant and its heritage, and want to make sure you enjoy your meal and your time at Huber's. We love the place! Pros: Great ambiance, great food, great customer service Cons: not open for breakfast more

pretty terrible 3/26/2009

Such a disappointment. I ordered the turkey florentine, and it was dry, tasteless. Turkey is supposedly their specialty (which is weird in itself). The mashed potatoes were good. I won't be going back, not even to see them make Spanish coffee. Pros: good bread, cool space Cons: awful food more

Still a winner 3/9/2009

My dad took me to Hubers the first time over 50 years ago when I was just 10 years old. I remember thinking that it was a special place even then. A few years later I worked downtown and would go there for lunch a couple of times a month and always loved it. Somehow it kind of slipped off the radar in the last several years and even though we eat out a lot we never thought about Hubers. Last night we were in the area so I took my wife there for dinner and discovered that they still know how to serve great food at a great price. The service was spot on and the place has a certain comforting charm to it. (except for the chairs I think those are left over from 50 years ago) you would think they could invest in something more comfortable. Pros: Great food and service Cons: very uncomfortable chairs, a bit noisy more

Poor Service, Mediocre Food 12/29/2008

I decided to take my brother from LA to a Portland institution. What I found was poor service and mediocre food. Pros: The historic atmosphere Cons: Food quality, Service more
