The plant selection is good, and they have plenty of each. It seems like they double the price, then sell it at 50% or 70% off, so it's not that much cheaper than other stores. It...

Sod was Falling Apart, Inferior Product, no Exchange 4/15/2011

I went last night and bought 80 squares of Sod. The guy seem to be having problems loading as we would pick up the pieces by one end, making them separate. The grass looked green and I saw him throw some pieces off to the side. Once I got it home and started unloading did I see what shape the pieces I got really were in. I drove back and ask them if we could exchange from a different pallet. Marko the manger was very rude and said there was nothing that could be done and I would have to call the main office. I did the next day and Jennifer was as equally as rude and non-caring and offer nothing but there is No Exchange policy. I ask if they were okay selling such an inferior product, being so rude and not backing up something I had just bought one hour earlier. Most of the response I got well I should have watched every piece being loaded, as if I shouldn't trust them to begin with !! I will never go back there again. Lowes has better products and backs up their products for a year and their plants are cheaper most of the time. Makes me think about their commercials where they stated from their family to your family !!! YEAH RIGHT !!!! Be watching for my signs on the main road by our house warning people of this horrible, nasty, rude, place. Plus there seems to be no knowledge of plants or plant care there. Don't say I didn't warn you... Next BBB and Subdivision Association. I wish I could have given it -stars !! more

Good selection of plants, but lousy customer service. 4/15/2007

The plant selection is good, and they have plenty of each. It seems like they double the price, then sell it at 50% or 70% off, so it's not that much cheaper than other stores. It is difficult to find someone to help you. I've shopped there a few times, and you are definitely on your own. They do not want you to call them, either. Their website does not include store phone numbers, and neither does the web yellow pages. I found one doing a google search, but all you get is a recording. Not a customer service oriented buisiness. Since then, I have discovered this fellow over at Bunker Hill Lowes. He's an older Asian gentleman working in the plants department. He knows EVERYTHING about plants. He's full of useful information and is so eager to help. My husband has benefited from this man's directions, too, on various yard maintainance and replanting. His ""tricks and tips"" really work! He's steared me away from a wrong purchase a couple of times. I suggest you go to Lowes instead of Houston Garden Center. Lowe's has a decent selection of plants too. more

Worst Service ever 3/6/2007

I have been in Houston 4 years and never bought plants. When it came time to get some for my balcony I naturally went to the place you see all over town; HOUSTON GARDEN CENTERS. I am bad with plants but wanted to get a few for my balcony with Spring almost here. I asked the manager if he could show me a few plants that would work for me, that would fit my sunlight situation and would be easy to maintain. He then had some guy who does not speak English assist me and of course this guy could not understand anything I said. So I went back to the manager, who was completely disinterested in helping me. I tried to tell him my sunlight situation and budget. He didn't really listen. Showed me two trees in the $60-100 range never even asking what kind of plants I might want or what my budget was (I didn't want trees, I wanted plants and herbs). The 3rd time I was speaking to the manager and he showed he wasn't interested I walked off and left. I will not go back to a place that treats its customers this way, especially a new customer. I can get plants just as easily at Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart or many other locations around Houston. I would recommend you do the same. Cons: Very poor customer treatment more
