We have worked with Dean and Charla for several months.
First, a word of caution about other dog trainers. Your dog has a window of opportunity when he or she is young to learn the essentials of good, social behavior. Once that window closes, retraining is difficult. We made the mistake of using :supermarket" trainers early and they were inexperienced for the types of issues our dog was having. It ended up being a huge waste of money, and our problems remained.
So . . . . if you want the job done right, you have to go to real professionals, and that's what Charla and Dean at Rover Oaks are. Both of them have real experience in dog training and have worked with service animals, etc.
We have had many weeks of experience with both of them and found them to be consistently patient and intelligent in their approach to our dog.
I think their proces are definately the "market" rate, and not more expensive than others despite what you might think from the label "pet resort." In fact, you will waste far more money on useless devices and poor training if you go elsewhere.
Pros: Expertise, patience, amazing faciliites
Cons: full schedule, so call early

Some of these reviews are harsh and in my opinion untrue. I experenced nothing but courtious friendly service from the moment that I called about training for my pooch to the last class with my dog. My girlfriend and I went to the classes and the trainers were helpful and knowledgeable. I started out with an uncontrollable 6 month old lab and by the last class we were walking into the building (not skiing with out water) and jumping on other people was much less of a problem. I am looking forward to starting the Intermediate class in a few weeks. It has been a great experience all the way around.
Pros: Knowledgeable, friendly staff and they LOVE dogs!
Cons: I couldn't find any.

To the author of this horrific injustice,
How unfair of you to make such comments about a business of which you have no current knowledge. You claim that you worked for the Pampered Pet Inn in the early 1980’s. This is not the same business that it was back in then. This particular Pampered Pet Inn has been through two other business owners since Selma Leiber and definitely operates with a higher standard than what you described. Your grievance is not with this Pampered Pet Inn and any guilt you feel towards any cruelty that may have happened 30 years ago is not my fault. How dare you make these remarks towards me and my business.
We have absolutely no ties to whatever kennel you are talking about that was located on Braeswood. This establishment may have been affiliated with it in the past, but is no longer. I am also pretty sure that the business of which you are referring to has been closed for the past 15 years at least.
We, at the Pampered Pet Inn strive to maintain an adequate amount of staff members for the amount of animals that we care for so that we can provide a safe and comfortable stay for our guests.
I am in total disbelief that someone would post such comments 30 years later without checking their facts.

Got the most genial welcome from Gabby and knew a lot about the breed, West Highland Terrier. A real life saver for an energetic and active dog that needs more than a single owner can give. The perfect place for dog exercise in a companionable, playful, healthy environment. Much more desirable for a dog than merely sitting home alone during the day waiting for a dog walker to spend 20 minutes outdoors and dog is much happier now. After all, dogs are animals meant to live in a pack and this is fun for them. Not to mention, a nice break for an owner!
Pros: Best dog day-care around
Cons: None

Both or our dogs have been going to Petsitters plus for over 2 years whenever we are away from Houston. The convenience of Petsitters plus service is matched only by their "can-do" attitude. Our dogs love them. It's gotten to the point where Lissa will pull up to pick them up and they will jump straight into her car and not look back. Recently our Mountain Dog got spooked and ran away. Unfortunately, i was in hospital and my fiance was out of the country. Lissa and Daryl joined the search immediately going above and beyond. We are so thankful to know that our fur-family is well taken care of when we are out of town.
Pros: Best place to send your dogs when you are out of town.
Cons: Zero cons

I've taken my pets there for 15+ years. My last dog, a chihuahua, in failing health, and very old. They, in my opinion, gave him another 2 years, with thoughtful and truthful and professional guidance. When it came time, he was in awful pain, and organ failure, and had to be put to sleep...Dr. Justice and staff, were with us and oh, so kind. They do not try to "rip you off" and if you ask questions about any test or treatment, they will frankly and non-judgementally give you cheaper options. I have a retired friend who takes her pet to Petsmart or SPCA for vacinnations etc. But, if it is anything serious, she takes her pets here.
Pros: Will do the right thing, straightforward, truly care
Cons: Price, for some

As a recent owner of a 4-month old Australian Shepherd, I HIGHLY recommend Happy Tails for dog daycare. Everything from the location, facilities and most importantly, the staff is very attentive, helpful and you can tell are all animal lovers. I had a horrible experience with another Houston dog daycare and can say Happy Tails is nothing like that other place.
Susan, who I believe is one of the managers, is so warm and caring. She took her time answering my questions and putting to rest any concerns I had about leaving my pup in their care. She took me on a site tour and explained to me what goes on in a typical day at their daycare.
Still have hesitations?? Happy Tails has a webcam where you can watch your dog play. There is always a care-taker in the playrooms and you can actually watch them supervising the dogs as they interact with one another. They also are great about cleaning up any bathroom accidents on the floor, so you don't have to worry about your dog stepping in poo.
Happy Tails has provided me with a sense of peace when I am at work. Thanks Happy Tails!!!

As the owner of two "high maintenance" dogs (one acquired after the first one passed away), Urban Tails is such an asset to my life. I've been a weekly regular there for 3 years now. The staff there has taken the time to learn about the special needs of each of my dogs and accommodate those needs with a smile, rather than an objection. My current dog always looks forward to going to visit her friends (two and four legged) there. The staff greets us by name when we arrive and are essentially extended members of the "pack" (to use dog-speak). The cage-free boarding and doggy-cam that allows us to keep an eye on our dog while we traveling allows us to rest easy at night when we are away. The location can't be beat--right on the edge of downtown, easy access to and from Hwy 59--makes it so easy to drop by on my way to and from work. I've never used grooming services there, but I have taken dog obedience training there and am pleased to report that their love of pets is reflected in their training classes--positive reinforcement techinques are used, not negative reinforcement and the small size of the classes insures you and your pet get the attention you need. Yes, there's a slight odor, but at a doggy day-care facility, do you expect for it to smell like a pot-pourri shop? Personally, I'd prefer the knowledge that all who work there care so much about the pets that they are taking care of.
Pros: cage-free boarding, very attentive and knowledgable staff

Dr Wilshire and his staff at Lakeside are second to none. They really go above and beyond to make you and your pet comfortable and to explain everything to you. I used to go to this clinic about 5 years ago, but temporarily moved away. Back then, there was hardly anyone ever there. Now, both times I have gone, they have been really busy. However, I did not have to wait long. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone in the area with pets.

Dr. Todd is a really wonderful and compassionate person who really does care about the animals he sees. We have used him for several years even when living in The Woodlands. We have moved closer to his office now and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. When we had to have our beloved dog put down a few years ago, that was his advice but did not rush us into a decision. We took her home and he said to call when we knew the time was right. We called him on a Sunday morning and he met us at the office that afternoon to take care of the situation. He really felt such compassion for her as she drifted off and we were so glad he was the person taking her into his care, He and his staff are great!
