The Scene
Aptly named, the Holy Chow is an up and coming cafe as well as a great bar. Granted the transition from dive bar to respected restaurant takes time, the dive bar element shouldn't be ignored. A favorite of VCU students, they feature live music in the diverse tradition of Twister's and the old Egypt.
The Food
A mix of fusion and nouveau cuisine, Basmati rice is a dead giveaway, you can stuff your face before tying one on. Emphasis on vegetarian fare fits their customer base, but meat is also on the menu and not as a second thought. Excellent food.
The Feel
Seems like the kind of place Lou Reed or Iggy Pop might hang out. You're also talking about an artistic clientele, as in art school not gallery.
Who's Going?
Art students and faculty, urbanites in the know, new music fans, hipsters (both real and imagined) and those looking to get away from cookie-cutter joints with no character.
