My wife and I visited this restaurant last night, and we were very pleased in every way.\r Our server was Carlos. Very attentive, polite and friendly.\r We had the fabulous shrimp cocktail first. Have it with the great tortilla chips that are served with every meal.\r I then had the Paella, and it was outstanding!\r My wife went conservative with the fajitas, but loved them.\r We plan to go back but will have the shrimp cocktail and split Paella for one, as it \r was plenty for two people.\r Outstanding dining experience, and the best Paella we have ever had! more

Horrible and disrespectful Service 5/6/2012

the music was great but the service was unacceptable. First, I order two appetizers and the waitress didn't bring me any silverware. My sister had order an appetizer and an hour later, she had to ask the waitress if she was going to bring it or not. The waitress asked her if she still wanted it or not (very rude). My sister said no and we asked for our ticket. We went to the front to pay and ask (whoever was in charge last night) for the managers name and number, which he refused. We paid and left the building and the waitress sister came behind my sister and started going off saying get The F**k out of there if we didn't like it. I tried to tell this other waitress that we were outside the building and we were leaving and she was out of line for talking to us that way. Because she kept insulting us, I went inside to tell the security guy that this employee was insulting us, him the guy that didn't want to give us the managers number came outside, I explained to him what his employee was doing outside and she started going off again, the sister (who was our waitress) came outside too and started going off on us too. We walked to our car, we were in our car pulling out of the parking lot and a bouncer or waiter and the security guy knocked on our window demanding if we had pay. They demanded their employee made us go through, the least they could have done was to forget about the ticket but we did pay and we show them the ticket. But honestly, it was so embarrassing to have two people at our car asking us if we paid for our meal. Like I said, the environment was great, the music too but the service wasn't good at all. I will contact the manager and let him know, I will contact the owner and let him know because such place and clients deserve good people to work there. more

AWESOME LATIN GRILL 3/15/2012

I went this past Saturday with all of my friends and it was amazing. I mean look at what this place has to offer? We went around 6pm, big free parking to begin with and a beautiful location. The owner greeted the whole group at the door (never has an owner greated us at the door). We sat down and I started off with a mojito. WOW!!!! The best mojito ive ever tasted(well atleast the same quality from my tip to miami). After a free drinks I had a Lomo Saltado entree it was devine. We drinked and danced the night away just like my vacation in the Islands last summer. And to seal the deal right when the night was almost over I ordered some empandas to sober up since the kitchen was open all night!!! THE BEST WAY TO PUT IT?.A TASTE OF A CARRIBEAN VACATION AT HOME.I will become a loyal customer from now on more

Terrible service! Small portions and pricey! 1/5/2012

We were trying out a Groupon, thankfully, otherwise this would have been a really expensive and terrible experience! more

Very fun experience! 5/2/2011

My sisters and I took our mother here for her birthday last Saturday and it was our first time trying it. I was not expecting much from here because it always seems empty despite it being here for years. My sister had heard that they have a live band on saturdays that plays salsa so we were all in to try it. more

TERRIBLE EVERYTHING 1/29/2011

TERRIBLE service and the food has been increasingly smaller in portions and their sauces are watered down. Go in on a Tuesday, you'll be the only one's there. I give this place another three months before they close the doors. 0 STARS more

Great Food, Great Music and Dancing! 1/17/2011

The decor is very nice, as soon as you walk in you notice how upscale the place looks. The tables look very clean and the bar very well organized. The staff are friendly, and generally responsive. The food tastes great! The empanadas are especially good! I have also tried the arroz con mariscos, which is excellent, and the ropa vieja, which is a cuban beef dish that is also quite tasty. At night on Thursday's they convert part of the dining room into a dance floor, and a live band sets up to play authentic tropical music (salsa, bachata, merengue, cumba). There is a free dance lesson from 7-8pm before the band starts. Then the social dancing begins, and the fun continues until midnight or later! For an all-around good time and good food, there are very few places like it anywhere else on the north side. Definitely worth checking out! more

Great Food, Better Prices, Perfect Service! 1/13/2011

Guayaba Latin Grill - Better food, better prices, and the addition of some South American dishes. Do yourself a favor, try Lomo Saltado, which is a Chef's Special and one of the most tender, appropriately seasoned and appointed beef I've had this year. I've also tried the beef and chicken fajitas and my only disappointment is that I have to drive all the way from Katy to get more! Juicy, tender with fresh sides, great guacamole! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great service. I'll be back! They have an extensive menu so try everything if you can cause it's ALL GOOD! more

Awesome place!! 1/13/2011

My girlfriends and I have visited Guayaba several times. We love this place! We love dancing to the live bands they have on Thursdays and Saturdays. Not only do they have a great atmosphere, they also have excellent food. My favorite is Pollo con crema de jalapeno along with a passion fruit mojito. I can never go wrong with that! more

Great Food! 1/12/2011

I have eaten at Guayaba Latin Grill twice and the food is great since I seem to sample everyone's plate at the table. The empanadas are out of this world and the ceviche is excellent. The owners are very attentive along with staff and the drinks are very smooth and tasty which makes you want another. I was there for the food and the band last week and the place was rocking. the place was packed with good music, great people, great food and alot of fun. I recommend this place for the empanadas and Lomo Saltado. Don't forget the Margaritas! AAA more

Good Food, Terrible Service... 1/7/2011

I was introduced to your restaurant by a Venezuelan friend who work with me. It was a lunch time and I had a wonderful Lomo Saltado. Since then I brought several friends, workmates and my family (wife and two daughters) to eat several times: lunch, dinner, Sunday brunches and even ordered empanadas on line several times. The food was always great and the service, well was pretty much OK (except on Sundays). more

Several Changes for the worse 12/1/2010

My wife and I grew fond of this restaurant about a year ago and decided to go when we found out that Restaurant-com offered them as a vendor. We printed the $25 gift certificate (for $2) and gave it another shot (thought we'd have a great quick meal). Turns out this place has changed a lot since our last visit 7-8 months ago...for the worse. The menu has been condensed and they have taken off several items including our favorite Tamales. My wife had the combination fajitas (which were burnt) served with what she described as Saffron Rice (not good), I had the Lomo Saltado which was supposed to be steak strips but is actually chewy beef chunks with soggy fries - don't get it. Very disappointing experience, we also wrote reviews on B4UEAT and Restaurant-com websites but they (reviews) haven't been posted. The only items we liked were the plantains served as a complimentary appetizer (served 10 minutes after we got there) and the Beef Empanada's - if you stick to those you should leave happy. more

Never Seated--LOTS of tables open and set up 7/24/2010

One of our friends is Salvadorian, she read about Guayaba in the paper and was so excited for all of us to try this new place. We drove from Sugar Land to meet up with them in Cypress. Drove from Cypress and all four of us were excited and had a craving for Latin food. When we arrived, the hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait, we quickly agreed that wasn't too bad and the hostess walked off. We all noticed and quietly commented to each other that she was not terribly friendly, but that was ok--until we looked into the restaurant. Only half the tables had seated guests. There were lots of waiters and most of them at some point looked at us. We were the only customers waiting for a table. We waited 5 minutes--even people eating began to notice us standing around. The hostess didn't even offer for us to wait at the empty bar. We finally walked out. We tried calling the manager to find out if the kitchen was short staffed, we were told he was not interested in speaking with us. This was a Friday night, it was 8:00--they are open until 11, we were in casual attire, 2 of us are accountants, 1 is an IT manager, all but one of us have previous experience in the food industry--it's not like we were inappropriate or stood out in a crowd. Due to the hostess' and manager's attitude, we will never visit this location again. Cons: Hostess, Manager more

Horrible Mother's Day buffet 5/10/2010

My family and I went to Guayaba for the first time on Mother's Day and we will NEVER go back. We made reservations for this $30/person buffet and we were very disappointed. Half of the items on their buffet came from Costco's or Sam's. The carving station had processed chicken on it along with some very dried out and overcooked meats. Their dessert section had not ONE item from the restaurant and was entirely store bought. The only items from the restaurant on the buffet were a few hot dishes in the chafing area and those were cheap and poor quality. If the food for Mother's Day is any representation of the food the rest of the week, this restaurant needs an overhaul. When the manager came to ask us how everything was we told him all the above, yet he did nothing to rectify the situation. The only thing he said was that he would tell the chef. We never saw him again. Someone should train him how to ""manage"" a restaurant since he obviously doesn't know how to do it. I will never go back to this restaurant. Pros: Good mojito Cons: Food quality more

Great any time, great service 1/17/2010

I live nearby and have been several times. Never disappointed. I am glad it continues in business because sometimes there are not too many customers. I took my mom from Canada, my boyfriend from Michigan, and my pal from Colombia ... everyone finds something they love to eat here. The servers are very professional and knowledgeable. Really nice atmosphere. LOVED the soup!! Pros: Great food, not yet ""discovered"" more

""Unique, one of the kind latin restaurant"" 10/30/2009

We visited Guayabas Lating Grill on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 for a notable wine list tasting. The restaurant is located in the northwest part of Houston serving the Willowbrook and surrounding areas. The restaurant is unique in that it strives to provide Latin American Cuisine encompassing several South and Central America countries as well as Cuban cuisine specialties. Pros: See details below Cons: There is only ""One Location"", hope for more to open soon. more

Friendly service, GREAT food!!! 10/28/2009

Anytime I come down I-10 from Austin, I have to make a stop here. My favorite dish is ""Pollo Guayaba"", stuffed chicken breast with shrimp and spinach topped with guayaba sauce. It's absolutely superb. Pros: Amazing flavor, amazing staff. Cons: There's not one in Austin yet... more
