One of our friends is Salvadorian, she read about Guayaba in the paper and was so excited for all of us to try this new place. We drove from Sugar Land to meet up with them in Cypress. Drove from Cypress and all four of us were excited and had a craving for Latin food. When we arrived, the hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait, we quickly agreed that wasn't too bad and the hostess walked off. We all noticed and quietly commented to each other that she was not terribly friendly, but that was ok--until we looked into the restaurant. Only half the tables had seated guests. There were lots of waiters and most of them at some point looked at us. We were the only customers waiting for a table. We waited 5 minutes--even people eating began to notice us standing around. The hostess didn't even offer for us to wait at the empty bar. We finally walked out. We tried calling the manager to find out if the kitchen was short staffed, we were told he was not interested in speaking with us. This was a Friday night, it was 8:00--they are open until 11, we were in casual attire, 2 of us are accountants, 1 is an IT manager, all but one of us have previous experience in the food industry--it's not like we were inappropriate or stood out in a crowd. Due to the hostess' and manager's attitude, we will never visit this location again.
