GMZ is an excellent church to come worship. I have always felt welcomed and my focus is on the Word of God, which is ministered from God through Pastor Clark, a true soul and a true soul winner. I found it interesting that a reviewer on this site thought they experienced ""reverse racism"" because they felt unwelcomed and treated as ""suspect."" At some churches in Austin, this is very real, but not at GMZ. It is a church where the congregation is primarily African American, but everyone is welcome and treated with love and respect regardless of color or otherwise. So, I hope that reviewer does come back or find a church home where they can grow. There isn't a special seating section if you are another ethnicity. No lap napkins distributed before taking communion crackers. It is a church that is active inside the walls and outside in the community. For the person that wrote the comment I will say, as I would to others: deal with your insecurities, embrace cultural exposure, and examine your childhood upbringing and current friends/family/surroundings/thoughts/language that support fears and stereotypes about people who may look different from you. So for people who want to know their Savior and really live it out, Greater Mount Zion is the real deal. People from all walks of life are seasoned with love whether they are in a suit or a t-shirt, like contemporary or traditional gospel music, read from a Bible with pages or on a smartphone, married, single, divorced, long hair, short hair, no hair at all, identify as Native American, Black, Indian, White, Asian, Latino, all of it mixed together or not really sure yet, young, old, in your right mind or trying to find your mind... GMZ is about loving people where they are and helping them to get to where they need to be with Jesus Christ through His transformative power. If you read this, visit on a Sunday or even Saturday evening... and experience it for yourself. more

The Word Preach IS A Living Word 10/29/2009

There is no shame and no blame there. We all know that we come with things we need God to help us with. I like that no one thinks that perfected. Pros: The Teaching Is Very Applicable to the 21 Century Cons: Sanctuary more

Dynamic preaching, but we are not of their color and did not feel welcomed. We've been looking for a church to join so a friend invited us to attend. We went a few times, but felt as if we were under suspicion, sooo haven't been back. Pros: good preacher Cons: didn't feel welcome more

Very Good Place To Worship 9/7/2006

I've visited GMZ several times and have been highly impressed with the worship experience. Pastor Clark is a very dynamic speaker who entertains during his messages but they are used to emphasize the message. The members of the church were very warm and friendly and they have a lot of outreach programs in the community. Pros: Excellent place to worship Cons: Lots of members and seating is a premium more
