Avoid this restraurant--portions are small, prices are high, and owners go back on their word! 8/7/2012

In today's age of social media and online review sites, how many of you think this is a good business strategy? I innocently parked in one of Global Restaurant's reserved parking spaces today while visiting a tenant at 3440 Toringdon Way in Charlotte, NC today. The restaurant is open from 3:00pm to 11:00pm - according to their Facebook page. I parked in a spot at 11:30am and came out to my car at 4:30pm, only to find that the owner of Global Restaurant had taken his enormous Honda truck and blocked my car in so that I could not leave. Granted Global pays for these parking spots and my parking there was my fault. I'm not looking for sympathy but how many of you think this is a good way to win friends and influence people to ever want to step foot in your restaurant again. I looked around and there were 5 spots open when he decided to use his truck to block my car, so I doubt I was taking a spot from one of his patrons. In fact, I didn't see any patrons. For me, I would have given the person the benefit of the doubt. Then, I would have notified the property management company that someone is parked in one of my reserved spots and ask them to send out an email to the tenants to have that person move their car. Or, how about a nice note left on my windshield notifying me kindly that these are reserved spots for restaurant patrons and a 10% off coupon to come in and try out the restaurant or stop by for a drink on the house? Yes, again I was wrong but what in the world has happened to kindness? What would you have done if you were the owner of this restaurant and you wanted to make sure this didn't go viral on the internet and create bad will amongst potential patrons of your restaurant? Would you do the same thing? Sometimes you can win the battle and lose the war! See pics in photo gallery. \r Pros: No pros Cons: Back in a very dark corner of a parking garage. Prices are very high. Portions are small. Very cramped place inside. more

Simply Delicious! 8/27/2011

This restaurant is for those who want something different and great food! Very intimate atmosphere...good for a night out for two. Very modern, but, quaint. Everything we tried was excellently prepared and presented. Sea Bass was great! We had a lot of seafood-type dishes, including the seafood bisque. Nothing but fresh taste hit our taste buds! Desserts were the perfect finish, not too heavy. Try the trio of creme brulee(s). Waiter was very helpful and came to our table at just the right frequency, without us having to flag him down. Couldn't ask for a better night for two. more

Nice place for a quiet dinner 8/7/2011

We went here for our Anniversary on a Friday night... Kind of a weird location, but once you're inside it's nice and contemporary. We liked the service; the waiter was friendly, helpful, and informative... without being overbearing. We had the Braised Pork Belly for an appetizer. It melted in our mouths and tasted delicious. We had the Duck and the Raviolo and they were both delicious... They also served up complimentary fresh baked bread with a ""different every day"" cream cheese with unique flavor combinations. We had a Creme brulee sampler for dessert and it was also delicious. I don't know how some of these other people came away hating it. Maybe they work for competing restaurants, or caught them on a bad night. We had a great time. more

Terrible! Will not Be Going Back 4/14/2011

My husband and I were really excited about trying Global after reading all of the great reviews......Did we go to a different restaurant? Our food was terrible, I couldn't finish my starter or main course and my husband struggled through his. To make matters even worse, after spending over $160 for two, my husband was SICK shortly after we got home. I called the restaurant to inform them that they should investigate what might have made him ill so to prevent someone else from getting food poisoning! The chef owner was very rude and unapologetic. I was shocked. WHAT A HORRIBLE EVENING! Save your money and stomach and go elsewhere. more

BAD expensive food!! 11/8/2010

WORST food we've had in years and the most expensive! The meat, lamb, we had was presented like a bowl of mush. Not only did the sauce taste bad, but the meat was OLD!! Old rotting meat!! The She Crab soup had dryed ground up freezer burnt pieces of fish in it!! The Paella was not good and tasted of corn starch. The other soup, escarole, was identical to blended grass with water, salt and red pepper in it. IF, we ate it, we would be running to the bathroom. Had to return it, so bad! I'm sorry we did not talk to friends about it first, they had same bad food and said never go there. Service was also poor. How does a restaurant get away with serving old meat? \r more

Eclectic Menu for those wanting a taste sensation 10/12/2010

A variety of menu items well prepared and presented in a manner that you will not find just anywhere. The food is excellent. The ambiance shouts classy. The dining experience is relaxed and unpretentous. The waitstaff is pleasant and friendly. It's location keeps it tucked away, but it's worth finding in a Ballantyne office complex.\r \r The first time I dined there, I found the menu to have so many things I wanted to try that the only solution was an appetizer ""tower"" that allowed me to experience a variety of dishes, while not having to commit to just one item.\r \r New diners may want to give that a try. more

A true hidden gem 2/10/2010

Global is a great addition to the Charlotte food scene. I love the fact that even though their food quality and ambiance would permit them to be snobby or arrogant, they aren't! They are truly attentive (but not overbearing) to every customer and the food delivers. I love the fact that the chef visits our table every time we're there--great touch. We've eaten at other so-called ""great"" restaurants in Charlotte and we've been ignored and underwhelmed. Global delivers on every front. If you haven't visited, make a reservation today! Pros: Distinctive flavors, delicious food, outstanding service Cons: Off the beaten path more

Ballantyne's Best Kept Secret! 10/8/2009

If you haven't tried Global Restaurant Bar & Lounge yet, you are missing out! My husband I had dinner there this week for our anniversary and were just amazed at our experience. The wine list is extensive, the ambiance and decor tops most that I have seen and the food is incredible. You HAVE to try the scallops - we got them as an appetizer and I could eaten lots more! The chef came out and greeted the patrons (when is the last time you have seen that??) and our waiter was very attentive to us, despite a party of 10 that was seated at the same time as we were. I can't thank them enough for treating us special that evening, which includes a complimentary glass of champagne. Check them out - easy drive from anywhere in Charlotte and folks in Ballantyne....it's right in your backyard!!! Pros: ambiance, decor, wine list, staff more

Food was terrific...service mediocre 8/28/2009

Overall, I like this restaurant, but I think a few things could be improved. We went to Global for my husband's birthday on a Saturday night and even though I had made a reservation in advance, we were seated in the back at the smallest available table near the area where the waiters were coming to and fro. This was disappointing. The service was adequate, but not superior and at this price point, it needs to be superior. That being said, the food was delicious. I had the lamb, which was very good and my husband had the paella which was excellent. The cocktails were well made and the wine list was very good. Pros: Food Cons: Location, service more

An incredible experience from the best restaurant in Charlotte 11/12/2008

This is my first review. My fiance and I discovered Global a year and a half ago at complete random. We were driving around area and saw a sign for Global. We were intrigued. We figured we couldn't go wrong with a restaurant obviously inspired from all over the world. I knew it was going to be on the pricier/nicer side, and we were obviously dressed like we randomly chose this place, but the wait staff (including the owners) treated us first class. We've been greeted and talked to by the owners every time we've been there for that matter. I stress this, because that is extremely rare in Charlotte where everyone has some sense of entitlement. Our waiter, Steve, was absolutely incredible. He has been our waiter for every visit.\r \r I'm a vegetarian, and I've always had something different each time. They do a great job of making their menu seasonal. Everything we have had has been absolutely top notch. We always come out saying, ""That's the best thing I've ever had."" The staff (Steve in this case) is incredibly knowledgeable of the wine selection as well. And the desserts, wow. I always hate leaving there knowing I'm going back to my cooking.\r \r I know the issue of price v. quantity v. quality is mentioned with this restaurant, but here is how I see it. The portions are incredibly well made with amazing ingredients. The food is meant to leave you comfortable, not stuffed. For my income bracket, Global is a place to visit for special occasions. I always get my money's worth. I'd prefer a smaller, healthier portion where I pay more and I'm left incredibly satisfied to a larger, cheaper portion that is nowhere nearly as good of quality.\r \r I honestly think Global is the best restaurant in Charlotte, and I have been to my fair share of high end restaurants. The location isn't the best, but there is ample parking. Overall this is a must visit restaurant, especially for special occasions that require an intimate atmosphere. Pros: Staff, intimacy, parking, attitude of the owners, food, wine selection Cons: location more

Not a good business model 9/22/2008

We've been to Global a couple of times, and the service is great, especially the bartender. For the most part, we have enjoyed the food, except for one time my wife's pasta tasted like dishwasher detergent, but stuff happens. \r \r This is another example of a restaurant that is trying to get the maximum amount of money they can for each dish they prepare. If restaurants like this only realized, that instead of offering $15-25 dishes, but rather $10-15 dishes, they would actually make more money. Not only would they see more people come through the door, but they would also get more word of mouth. Plus, with every person you seat, that is just that much more money you make on drinks, etc. This is why a lot of restaurants tank. They try to get as much as they can. \r \r Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but the value isn't. Not to mention the location is horrible. It's in the back of a business park away from the retail center, so unless you get a glimpse of one of his signs or someone tells you about the place, you'll never see it. Pros: Service and ambience Cons: Value and location more

Fine dining, varied cuisine, amazing service, warm atmosphere, great wine list 8/11/2008

Global Restaurant in Charlotte, NC - Global is a fine dining restaurant in the Ballantyne area, just off I-485 and Johnston Road. This amazing restaurant features food from all over the world (hence the name). Bernard is the chef and owner. He was trained in France and has a gift for creating unique and spectacular dishes that delight the palate. His wife and co-owner, Shannon, has a wonderful command of their extensive wine list and an instinctive flair for choosing that special wine that will best compliment whatever food is ordered. The presentation of the food at Global is as special as the food itself. Bernard has a flair that rivals the best restaurants in the world, yet Shannon and Bernard bring to Global the warmth of dining in the home of a close friend. This restaurant is truly a gem in Charlotte?s crown and I hope you will add it to your list. Pros: Excellent service, great wine list, spectacular food, lovely decor Cons: A bit difficult to find but easy parking more

Global is Charlotte's Hidden Jewel 3/27/2008

My husband and I had guest from Canada a couple of weeks ago and decided to try Global. What a hidden jewel this is! The food was superb, and the service was excellent! The chef came to our table to ask if we enjoyed our meal. Never have we had treatment like this in Charlotte. Our guests who dine in fine restaurants regularly were equally as impressed. I highly recommend this restaurant. Go and decide for yourself. I don't think you will be disappointed! Everything we got was good. Pros: Nice ambience, Good wine list, great dessert and after dinner drink menu more

Make dining an event 1/18/2008

Wonderful atmosphere and decor; food is superbly served in a very quiet atmosphere. Having only 14 tables makes it an intimate experience. More then competitively priced with ostentatious restaurants in Charlotte. I highly recommend it. Pros: A little bit out-of-the way- but easily accessible, and parking is right at hand. Very friendly wait staff. Cons: Can't think of any more

great service and great food 1/11/2008

Great restaurant experience in intimate setting! The service was very good, and the waiter we had (Steve) made excellent recommendations. Portion sizes were perfect - not too small and not too much that could be wasted. We had the duck and tenderloin, both which were phenomenal with the flavors and accompanying sides. Good wine list to choose from as well. Will highly recommend Global to friends looking for good food and good service with warm and intimate setting! more
