Fung's Kitchen is amazing. I first came here in a group of about 8 people, we got probably 5 meals and just shared, it was incredible. Everyone has plenty to eat as the plate si...

used to be a great restaurant. for some reason, just don't feel it anymore now. don't know if they changed chefs or what. Pros: old times were good Cons: not so hot now

Worst service I have received in many years 11/16/2006

I was looking forward to taking my friend to dinner at Fung's Kitchen for her birthday because I had only heard good things about this restaurant. Boy, were we DISAPPOINTED!!! The service was terrible - one waiter took our order without writing it down and another waiter delivered it. When I told him I did not get what I ordered, he said that he was not the one who took the order and what I got was similar to what I ordered. I would have created a scene with the manager, but I did not want to embarass my friend, so I just glared at him. The food was average at best and definitely overpriced. I know that neither one of us will EVER go back there, nor will any member of our families. Houston has too many wonderful Chinese restaurants to explore that DO have good food and service to waste time and money at Fung's. DO NOT GO THERE. You will not be pleased!!! Cons: Poor service, average food, expensive prices more

possibly best chinese food in town 6/16/2006

I make it a point to seek out the best chinese food in every major city across the US. Some of the best I've found are in NY's Flushing China Town. But, by far the best Chinese food in the US is in ChinaTown in Los Angeles' Metro Area: Alhambra and Monterey Park where it stretches 5-6 city blocks on each sides of I-10. Fung's kitchen is the only restaurant in Houston that comes very close to the quality of food in LA. However, the only draw back at Fung's kitchen is that they are pricy. Pros: Best Chinese Food in town Cons: Pricy more

Great food! 5/15/2006

I go to Fung's occassionally when visiting my family, and it's got some great authentic cuisene. The price point may be a little high, but usually it's a reflection of what you are ordering. Shark's fin soup is pricey there, but it's pricey everywhere! The restaurant has expanded and there is a ton of seating. When going, you will most likely run into people you know. We ran into 3! The artwork on display is supurb and restaurant overall is very clean. The waitstaff at Fung's is attentive and friendly, very unusual for a busy Chinese restaurant! Pros: friendly, clean Cons: parking more

Great Cantonese food, Pricey, & Poor Service 1/13/2006

I love the food but the price and poor service turn me off! Pros: Authentic Cantonese Cons: Pricey, Poor service more

Very good 3/14/2005

I've been here everytime i've visited Houston - a standard among Chinese restaurants in the city. I've seen it grow from a very small space in a strip mall to literally overtaking the entire strip mall. They have to be doing something right. True, the prices are a little high, but the food is definitely geniune chinese - and probably one of the best in Houston. more

Be careful 9/16/2004

My wife and I, as well as our families have been patrons of this ""fine"" restaurant. Granted, the food is good, but the management are both arrogant and unaccomodating. They charge double what other fine Chinese seafood restaurants offer (i.e. Live shrimp is $18/lb for tiny ones vs Ocean's Palace 18$/lb for jumbo live shrimp) yet do not offer any better service. There have been numerous occasions where I have noted to the managers that the food was either prepared poorly or that the quantity was meager and have never heard a simple ""I'm sorry....how can I better serve you?"" I will never come back even after all these years because the people are rude and snobbish. If you want excellent fresh/live seafood that tops this place, venture to Ocean Palace on Bellaire. YOu will find Australian crab, live shrimp, fresh mussels/clams, etc for almost half the price. Pros: Good food, good parking Cons: , Poor service, Tres expensive more

Great Chinese Food! 4/19/2004

If you like Chinese food and have been looking for good, authentic dishes...definitely eat here! My family has been eating here for years, from the small restaurant through all the expansions. I must say, parking has gotten much better!!! For dessert, I love the mango pudding and red bean soup. When it comes to Chinese food, authencity is important! Pros: Great service, Authentic more

Too pricey 8/7/2003

My family has been going to Fung's kitchen for at least 10 years. Over the years, the portions are getting smaller and smaller while the prices are raised again and again. Especially for some of the vegetarian dishes, they have started substituting large shiitake mushrooms with canned bamboo shoots. That is downright cheating! Their food is still tasty, but not for that price. Pros: Good Food, Authentic Cons: Too Pricey, Portion is Too Small more

Yum..Yum...Give me SUM.. 7/29/2003

I do like this chinese restaurant...even...before the renovations. The food is excellent and the menu has all kinds of exotic new things to try. I must admit that it isn't the best looking place in the world...and the waitstaff is a little rude...but almost makes it more authentic. However, the food is great!! My favorite chinese restaurant in Houston! Pros: food more

Real Chinese Food 7/24/2003

Our family is first-generation chinese here in Houston. Fung's Kitchen is our favorite. Great traditional dishes as well as more exotic ones. more

Over Priced and Over Rated 4/28/2003

It used to be a very nice, medium priced eatery, with friendly services, though at times - SLOW. Owner/Chef used to prepare old country dishes which I could not find elsewhere. Ever since the restaurant expanded, both quality and quantity of their dishes deteriorated; with slow services and higher prices when compare with other same caliber Contoness Seafood Restaurants. The chef tend to overcooked the seafoods (a deadly sin), and undercooked the vegetables. A big disappointment. Pros: clean bathrooms, well lighted interior Cons: limited parking, expensive, slow service more

Waste Of Money 3/27/2003

Much, much over priced, 3 times the price of other better restaurant, and a completely waste of money adventure. It was a good restaurant 20 years aga when it just started. Now is just a wothless money pit place. more

Beautiful place, doesn't make the cut 10/4/2002

Fung's kitchen is a gorgeous restaurant. They have a gigantic menu and if you want exotic seafood, they've got it for you, swimming around and staring you in the face in many impressive aquariums. Examine your food closely as you eat and you may notice your carrots cut in fanciful shapes, like stars and birds. However, despite my love for a fancy place and my low standards for what I eat, the food here does not make my cut. Once when entertaining guests we had hair in our food. Otherwise for me the food is on the bland side. Sorry. Pros: Beautiful, fancy Cons: bland more

Best of the East! 8/11/2002

I love chinese food, but if I ever have to take friends or relatives to an excellent chinese restaurant, I take them to Fung's. Their stuffed eggplant is excellent. Their crab and asparagus soup is also very good. more

Best Chinese! 8/6/2002

This is ultimately the best Chinese food anywhere. I'd recommend the fish-shaped mango dessert. The service sucks, but most Asian restaurant service sucks. The portions are small for the price that you pay. Also keep in mind the refills on sodas are not free! But it is the best Chinese I've had anywhere. Pros: Tasty food, Parking, Location Cons: Price/Quantity, Service more

Best Chinese Food in the City 7/29/2002

Hands down, this is the best chinese restaurant in Houston. Great seafood dishes. Service can be better but food is delicious. more

excellent food, small portions 5/27/2002

My grandparents knew the owner for years, Nancy, so I've been going to Fung's Kitchen for a long time. One thing we've noticed is that the portions have gotten smaller while the prices get higher through the years, but overall the food, ambience, and persentation are consitently good. The one thing I would not recommend is the peking duck - more fatty than it should be. Clean bathrooms is a plus! Other than a particular waiter, Kevin, the service is not very attentive. more
