The quality of the medical care is outstanding and I feel very secure knowing any problems will be detected and treated properly.

Brought our dog here at about 8pm on a Wednesday in a bit of a freak out, concerned b/c he was pooing a ton of blood.\r \r Dr. Nascimi took care of us, thoroughly examined our pup and gave him (what I later verified as) totally competent and correct care. She took the time to explain why everything was okay, and provided a follow up treatment plan to treat what was just a very irritated gut system. The price was actually less than I expected (about $250 instead of the $500 I had predicted for emergency care), so that was a plus. more

I moved to the DC area 3 years ago and brought my kitten with me from SC. She was fully vaccinated and should have been protected against Panleukopenia (sometimes called feline parvo and can be deadly) but as no vaccine is 100% effective she became one of a very small percentage of cats that still contracted the disease. She declined rapidly over a 48 hour period- lethargy, vomiting, anorexia. She had a fever of 105 when I brought her to Friendship and they immediatly worked hard to bring her fever down. She developed bloody diarrhea later that evening after being hospitalized which was expected due to the nature of the disease. Her white blood count was extremely low as well. Even though the test for panleukapenia was inconclusive (which can be the case), Dr. Schultz was pretty certain that was what we were dealing with and treated accordingly. As she had an ifectious disease, they made sure that she was not exposed to any other cats and was put in isolation. My cat Hallie steadily improved and made a full recovery after 6 days in the hospital. Dr. Schultz and Dr. Faggioni were the two doctors taking care of her and they (along with the techs) gave me constant updates on how she was doing. I was allowed to visit her anytime 24/7 for as long as I wanted. This disease was new to me and the doctors were very kind to educate me on it and answer all of my questions. Hallie has made a full recovery and is doing very well. I am convinced that if I took her anywhere else that Hallie may not be alive today. Dr. Schultz, Dr. Faggioni, and the whole staff at Friendship saved my cat's life! more

I met with Dr. Boone and vet tech Sophia. Both were extremely friendly and thorough. Dr. Boone was great with my Yorkie. She was both professional and friendly. My Yorkie had a red spot on her eyeball. Dr. Boone wasn't sure what it was, but she performed multiple tasks trying to figure out what it was including a consultation with other doctors. She gave me some eyedrops and I meet with her again in 2 weeks.\r \r The next morning I got a call from Sophia saying they had overcharged me. Silly me for not noticing that. I am very impressed and thankful that they caught that. They refunded my money right away! more

I've been using F'ship off and on since Fall 2001, and I've used it for 4 kitties, including 2 who had cancer and were euthanized. I use Dr. Giles of Union Vet as my regular vet for my 2 current kitties, and I highly recommend her. But one of my cats gets sick at times and I've taken him to Fship on weekends, and was very satisfied with his treatment--and believe me I am well-acquainted with vet treatment! more

So two years ago my puppy became very ill. I couldn't take her to our normal vet, CityPaws because they don't open on Wednesdays (and are the used car salesmen of vets in DC) so I go to Dupont Vet. Dupont is quick and their vets are very educated, my dog was diagnosed with parvo within the first 10 mins of being there, but not very caring. I was encouraged to put her down because her odds of survival were so low. more

I adopted an older dog, and one month after taking her in she began to get sick and I was referred to Friendship. I have read the other reviews, and really can't believe the experiences of others, because mine was the exact opposite. The very first night I took her there when I thought we were having an emergency, they told me she was stable, and to take her home and bring her back to her scheduled app the next morning because they didn't want to charge me unnecessary costs and didn't charge me anything. From that point forward for the next 4 weeks we tried multiple treatments because she wasn't getting better, she would start to get better and then get worse again - but the entire time they were supportive and helpful and every single person I interacted with was kind and considerate. When the costs became too high, unknown to me, they nominated her for help from a memorial fund to help cover her costs which she was approved for. Ultimately we had to put her down, but even after 2 of the doctors/vet techs who had worked with her called to express condolences after they heard, and I received a card in the mail saying they made a donation in her name to the memorial fund and a very nice note from her primary vet and his assistant. I literally have a list of 10 people I plan to send individual notes of thanks to, and am so incredibly glad that she received her care there. Again, everyone seems to have different experiences, but having gotten to know so many of the people who worked there over the last 4 weeks, I have nothing but positive things to say about them. more

My foster dog from Washington Humane Society got a more than botched neuter job at the National Capital Spay and Neuter Clinic on Friday. Since he (my sweet foster pup) and I were up all Friday night because he was in such great pain, I took him here on Saturday morning after I called to see if I needed to bring him in. I can't tell you how friendly Josh was on the phone, the girl who checked us in and Dr. Murtagh and Dr. Schultz were when they saw my dog. They took time, inspected him thoroughly, showed concern for him - not only in his health but who they knew who might be interested in adopting him - and this all happened fairly swiftly. They spent a good amount of time with us, but we weren't waiting too long. I don't know how to rate their prices, but their care and concern meant a great deal to me since we had been up all night, were exhausted and getting used to a new dog who was in such great pain. I am so grateful and will now bring my own two dogs and cat here to see them as regular clients. Was very impressed. more

Lets get this out of the way: You pay for what you get. Is it pricey? Sure. But the care provided is without peer. more

Took our dog in after she had hit her eye and it began to swell and stay closed. We are new to the area so I called up my vet from back home who recommended searching for an AAHA-certified hospital and getting it checked. Friendship came up in Google and I gave them a call. more

We had a great experience with Dr. Mara Schultz at Friendship. Our dog, Victor*, had his butt handed to him in a fight with another pooch and Dr. Schultz and the rest of the staff at Friendship Hospital were good to him and good to us. Dr. Schultz was especially sweet, patient, and very helpful in providing followup care each of the following two days**. more

I brought my cat here early on a Monday morning when I noticed she was disoriented and her pupils were dilated. They rushed her back to their triage area and asked me questions about her condition and began treating her immediately. I waited about half an hour and the doctor (Dr. Phillip) came to speak to me and we were able to determine that she'd ingested some human medication. She had to stay in the clinic three days, and they provided top-rate care and stayed in touch with me several times a day. I was able to visit her as often as I wanted and while visiting her I observed the doctors and technicians treating other animals in the triage area, and they were caring and compassionate and seemed to provide top-rate care to all their patients. I would highly recommend Friendship to anyone whose pet needs emergency care. I thought their prices were reasonable, but veterinary care is expensive, especially in emergency situations. They also provide regular veterinary care, and have a large staff of interns and residents supervised by experienced vets. more

I had to take my dog here about a month ago for an emergency evening after it became difficult for her to walk. I had a very enjoyable experience, considering the circumstances. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/2/2012

I've only experienced an emergency visit, so I can't rate their routine care. From the moment I walked in the door, they took care of both my beloved cat and me. They immediately recognized she was in distress and took her straight to the back. The doctor was with me very soon after, and clearly explained what was happening, step by step. She made sure to update me very often, so I was never waiting for long. She explained all my options and didn't try to upsale me on anything. In fact she was quite honest about my cat's chances of survival. more

After a traumatic evening looking for Nancy Regan (my cat) and eventually finding her a complete mess with a broken, bloody, leg, and several additional injuries, we called Friendship Hospital and they told us exactly what to do, upon arrival the staff and the doctors could not have been more wonderful, particularly given how upset we were. They were the only place available on a Sunday as well. Yes they are expensive, but if you believe as I do that pets are a full-fledged member of the family, I will do whatever I need to do to get them well. I feel completely assured that she is getting the best treatment possible. more

Both of my cats have needed surgery this year, and as usual, the vets at Friendship did a great job. They stayed within the cost estimates and called to give me updates. Most importantly, they took great care of my cats. more

I move a lot, and my two dogs have been to five different vets including three different emergency vets, and on both counts Friendship is the best around. First, the ER. A friend of mine was watching my dog and his dog when one of them got into a large box of chocolate (his dog, as it turned out). We called the vet and let them know we were coming. When we got there a team of 8-10 people were waiting. The vets had both dogs on IVs and vomiting within minutes. People at the best ERs don't get that kind of service. For regular checkups, I appreciate the bedside manner of the vets. They listen, they don't rush, you feel like you get your $80 worth. more
