HORRIBLE SERVICE, DECENT FOOD 7/30/2011

I'VE BEEN TO EULOGY BEFORE FOR BEERS BUT WENT ON WED, NIGHT WITH MY FAMILY FOR DINNER. WE HAD A PARTY OF 7 AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY IT WAS THE WORST SERVICE I EVER HAD AT ANY RESTAURANT. WE WERE SEATED AT 6:15 AND DIDN'T GET THE CHECK TILL 9"00. ALL WE HAD WAS 2 ROUNDS OF DRINKS, APPETIZERS, AND ENTREES (BURGERS AND FISH AND CHIPS). IT WASN'T UNUSUAL TO NOT SEE OUR WAITRESS FOR 20 TO 30 MINUTES AT A TIME. THE PLACE IS NOT EVEN THAT BIG! TO TOP OFF A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE THEY ADDED AN AUTOMATIC 20% GRATUITY TO THE BILL! NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WON'T BE RETURNING TO EULOGY. more

Make sure you LOOK like you are going to spend money 1/11/2010

I had been to Eulogy 2 times before and thought the beer was great and food was pretty good. Those two times I went with my wife and we were going out afterwards so we dressed the part. The 3rd time was with a few of my cousins and their girlfriends (ages 22-25) we just wanted to grab some beers and eat. We sat down; waitress came over and told us we needed to move to the bar because this area was for people just eating dinner. (odd but didn’t think to much of it at the time) We moved, ordered drinks and then were asked to move again because someone had reserved this area. (Very odd then started to get the point……she didn’t want us there). If that was blunt enough after the 3rd round she brought us our check. Ha!! We took our business across the street to Triumph which is where we will be headed from now on. Sorry Eulogy but that’s type of service is unacceptable and offensive. So if you’ve read this so far and still considering going make sure you break out the preppy clothes and you will enjoy some great beer. If not jump across the street….foods better there anyway. Pros: Great Beer Cons: Service was offensive more

Tasty Burger ... lots of beer 11/21/2009

Just had the Beneluux Napoleon Burger and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The meat was juicy, cooked exactly how I requested and the seasoning mix they used was delectable. The tavern is located in Old City, amongst many other local pubs and restaurants and is 2 floors. The place seemed very low key and modest but was quite crowded on the first floor for a Saturday afternoon. Beer selection is one of the best in the city. Pros: Plenty of great beer selections Cons: Dark more

Best Fish 'n Chips in town. 8/22/2009

The chips... were de-lish. Crispy on the outside, and melty soft on the inside. The fish was excellent too... closest thing to the local London Chippy! The side/dip sauce... could have a tad more fiest to it! But all in all... the Fish 'n chips... were excellent! Downside... there was only one bottle of vinegar in the 2 floors of service area, and my chips had cooled off by the time the our waiting mate could locate it. Make sure you have them get the malt vinegar and worcestershire sauce upfront... before the food arrives... if you like your chips that way. Beers were great... Frambois on tap... yum! Cheers! Pros: Really good ... Chips! more

What Happened to Eulogy???? 1/25/2009

I'd thought I just share my email that I sent to the owner today.... On Friday, I had a reservation for the Coffin room for approx 25 people. My fiance and I have always loved Eulogy and frequented often over the past 2 years, however, our service was absolutely horrible on Friday. I informed you of the need for approx 10 pitchers of Stella and lots of fries. When the birthday boy and I arrived our guests were receiving their own drinks. BUT it took us 25 minutes to get a drink and to place any type of order with Martin. Martin was constantly busy and we wouldn't see him for long periods of time. The room was very hot and when some of our guests said something to Martin they were told it's because the room is above the kitchen. We had 5 people leave because of the heat . It wasn't until one of the guests noticed there was an a/c unit and asked Martin if it could be turned on. His response "All you had to do was ask". Are you kidding me? When I asked for the 10 pitchers, I was told there was only 5 available. When he brought them out, there were NO glasses. I was told they were all out. The pitchers sat there for at least 25 minutes before we got approx 10 glasses. That's hardly enough for everyone. The only thing that we received quickly were the fries and the bill. Between not receiving a call back or an email when I repeatedly contacted you and your bar and with the horrible service, I was pretty disheartened. We loved Eulogy, but will not be rushing to come back anytime soon after Friday night. It really made a potential fun night very stressful for me. I am sorry to send you this email, but you need to know about your servers and the type of service your guests are receiving. As an owner of an establishment, it should be in your best interest to serve your customers in the best manner possible, which clearly the 25- 30 people I had there on Friday didn't receive. Jennifer York Pros: Great Beer Selection, downstairs Bartenders know their beer Cons: Horrible service to groups, do not have enough servers for upstairs more

Best bar in town 11/17/2008

If you havent been to Eulogy you are missing a fantastic piece of Philadelphia. The food is excellent, the service is immediate and the beer list speaks for itself. I am a regular at Eulogy and will continue to be a regular. I am a big fan of trying different beers and really learning about the beer at the same time...this place is perfect for that. There are many things on the menu that are "must tries"...fries, mussels, hanger sandwich, cheese plate...and of course all the beer. The buffalo wings arent the best Ive had, but thats about the only thing I can think to say negative about this place. The bartenders here are the most knowledgeable I have ever met. They can make dozens of recommendations, tell you about the brewing of the particular ale, tell you about the history of the beer and even tell you the best temperature to drink it. It makes visiting Eulogy more than just a night at a bar...its more like a history lesson, museum and party wrapped into one. Sophisticated or sloppy drunk I love this place. Pros: Beer list, bartenders Cons: nothing more

Great Beer! 10/10/2008

I am a huge lover of beers, Belgian first...they always have an amazing selection on tap and of course, the bottles as well.- Great service always, great advice from the bartenders, and great treats for after you might have one too many extra- alcoholic beers (some are upwards of 11%- beware, seen people with their head on the countertop after one!) Love the clams with greyure and must try the french fries with the unique dipping sauce...! more

Extensive beer selection, knowledegable staff 9/20/2008

Eulogy has a fantastic selection of Belgian ales my waiter was very knowledgeable when asked for details on the more obscure selections. The bar itself is fairly typical for a shotgun space. Though they claim their burger has been rated the Best in Philly, I thought it was average. Their frijtes, however, are excellent and their moules biere were very good. All in all a nice, casual hangout. Pros: Large ale selection, great frijtes Cons: dark, limited seating downstairs more

Most unprofessional staff I have ever experienced. 8/29/2008

This place has the most unprofessional staff I have ever experienced in my entire life which is a shame because the beer list was very impressive. I will never be returning to this establishment. The sister bar, Beneluxx has a great staff however. Very friendly and educated. Pros: Great Beer List Cons: Incredibly horrible staff more

Fun and Funky. Big Beer Selection. 7/29/2008

Outside of the Pacific Northwest and New England it's not always easy to find a bar with a wide range of beers, especially something other than lagers and microbrews that are basically lagers in disguise. While Euglogy has a fair number of the latter, they do have enough variety to quench the thirst of those looking for a true IPA or a real stout. The food is just ok and I disagree with the other reviewers about how good it is. In short, a fun, but dark, hole-in-the-wall place with great beer. Our wait staff was friendly and prompt. more

GREAT ATMOSPHERE & BEER SELECTION 7/4/2008

A great place to enjoy Belgian beer in an authentic atmosphere. Great bar food too. The week ends get pretty crazy, better to go on week nights more

Stay downstairs! 3/28/2008

Their beer selection is fantastic. There are so many import and domestic choices, you will not be disapointed. However, the upstairs bartender seems to forget, very often, that he is in the service industry. We know that he has his own "regulars," but that is no excuse to be rude to or ignore other customers. I highly suggest you visit Eulogy, but I highly suggest that you stay downstairs. You'll find the staff much more pleasant and accomodating. more

best beer and food in Philly! 2/8/2008

i definitely recommend Eulogy to anyone who loves GOOD beer and delicious food. the staff is extremely knowledgable about the 300 selections of beer, so don't be afraid to ask. for a great time in Philly at a reasonable price... it's Eulogy! GOOD TIMES! more

Best burger....EVER. 2/7/2008

I don't normally like burgers from places other than Copa...but oh my god Eulogy's bacon cheeseburger w/fried onions was the best I've ever had! Definitely worth checking out. Pros: Great food, beer, service....not too expensive Cons: Terrible ambiance...the upstairs had lights at full blast...wierd! more

Need to update their website 1/20/2008

We made a reservation to celebrate my birthday (1/19/08). I decided on Eulogy based on the menu on their website. We got there for our 7:30 reservation and were told our table should be ready soon. Three more employees for then next 20 minutes kept asking us if we were helped, one didn't even wait for a response. Asked the question then ran down the steps. I was very disappointed to see that the menu we were handed was very different from the one on their site (except the mussels). I understand that menus are subject to change. Imagine my surprise when our waiter told us that the website hadn't been updated in 6 years. We wound up walking out without ordering. Very disappointed. more

Best beer selection! 1/12/2008

My favorite bar in philadelphia for beer. Amazing selection.. just read all the reviews! Had dinner for the first time there - the food was amazing - However, the portion sizes were so small!!! And for the price I just thought we'd get a little more. But besides that, Great place! Pros: Beer, beer, beer - amazing selection. Great bartenders Cons: Small food portions for the price more

stellar selection and service! 1/3/2008

my boyfriend and i passed by eulogy a few weekends ago but weren't able to go in due to the large crowd. on a return trip to the city last weekend we decided to stop in for a pint before seeing a movie. one pint turned in to 6 delicious pints (most of them suggested for us by the very knowledgeable bartender on duty) and the lentil burgers with goat cheese we ordered were outstanding! we never made it to our movie but we had a great afternoon drinking beer at eulogy. Pros: the selection is out of this world! Cons: it can get VERY crowded. more

New chef rocks! 12/24/2007

This place was already good when we first went, but the new chef has made this place even better. Every server we had knows their beer. Exceptional Belgian beer selection, without the crowd/noise of Monk's. When recommendations are needed the waitstaff are quick to suggest. Appetizers are the way to go here - the hoegaarden braised shrimp and duck confit are the best. Burgers are amazing. Great selection on the new menu. No complaints, eat here! Pros: ambiance, beer/menu selection Cons: seat at downstairs bar hard to come by more

What happened 11/9/2007

My girlfriend and I were at Eulogy too this weekend, it was packed even more than usual when we sat around 8pm, our server told us it was a crazy busy day all day, he never had so much sales in his life. Our food was delicious and served fast and friendly as usual, I got mussels and she got burger and fries, definitely best in the city and a bargain. After dinner the downstairs bar was too crowded so we checked out their new place Beneluxx around the corner. More of a wine and cheese focus but also about 40 beers on tap and beautiful inside, the wall of taps blew me away, 90 beers and wines on one wall, it made me dizzy. Beneluxx was crowded but not packed like Eulogy, I suggest making reservations for both places since they are very popular with the Philadelphia diners due to great food and great beer. I agree the place gets better and better every year it is open. Pros: beer, food, service Cons: very popular make reservations more

what happend 11/6/2007

I been going to Eulogy almost since it first open I seen I grow into a great place to eat and drink. But this past Saturday was the worst i ever had me a some friends got there around 9 ish order two types of mussels the dijon and a beer with fries it took a little time like 30 mins the sever was great stayed on top keep apologizing for the delay. when the Appetizer came the mussels wee over cooked chewy and bland and the think the cream in the dijon was burnet and the fries were under cooked soft and greasy not the typing double fried that I am used to there. then cam our dinners 3 burgers that were ordered med rare all were well done and the fries with burgers were over cooked all crunch and no creamy middle. I complain to the sever who gracefully offered to get new burgers but we didn't want to wait so he bought us a round of beer. I don't think ill be coming back to soon the eulogy Pros: great beer great bartenders and servers Cons: over cooked burgers and mussles. and the fries just not good anymore more

  • In Short
Belgian-owned spot delivers two ingredients missing from the glam and hype of Old City's nightlife scene: good beer and relatively down-to-earth people. Folks on both sides of the bar are more VH1 than MTV--even if one of the owners is Glen from "The Real World." The more than 300 draught and bottled international brews provide patrons with ample sipping options. The bar's specialty Belgian twiced-fried fries complement the homemade hamburger and sirloin steak sandwich.
