Not nearly as weird as the personal airbrush tanning experience I had in NYC. While it was fun to be tan in March, it was--I imagine--not unlike a lice shower at a women's prison (Follow this: take off your clothes, put a hair cap on, stand with your feet uncomfortablely apart, face the technician who is scrutinizing every inch of your body, make a quarter turn every time the technician says "now," and stand still until she comes back ten minutes later). My recent experience in a tanning booth at Electric Beach Tanning was certainly strange, but not that strange.
This has nothing to do with the Electric Beach Tanning: that was great. The facility is clean. They have plenty of equipment to accommodate walk-ins. The receptionist was polite and thoroughly explained the spray on tan process...he even gave me a plush towel (he could tell I am a plush towel woman) and a tip about holding my breathe so I don't have to fill my lungs with the chemicals (although they are reputed to be safe to inhale...but ick!).
It is just strange to be sprayed that way. And frankly, the spray is cold, which is unexpected. That said, twelve hours later I am pleased to report a healthy, not too suspicious, glow. I'd do it again.
Tan Tips: If you are going to try spray on tan, be sure to exfoliate your body from head to toe before you go. Granulated sugar works great.
Also, wear dark, comfortable, loose fitting clothes to the salon...jammies if you can dot it. It is a little sticky and they suggest you not shower for at least a day.
If you are tanning for a special occasion, go about 24 to 36 hours before the event.
