El Loro Mexican Restaurant

I don't know why many reviewers are complaining about the ambience at El Loro. It is very authentic Mexican with really great murals about Mexican history. The food is hot (heat and spicy if you want it), service is fast and friendly. I always take my Spanish students there to get a little taste of Mexico. We have had as many as 45 people in a group and still the service was very good and the good served hot and good. more

Like others have said, the ambiance of the restaurant leaves something to be desired... but once you start eating you completely forget about decor! I LOVE this place. I go here about once every couple of months and I always introduce friends to El Loro if they enjoy mexican food. It's seriously great. I've always had great service; I've even had a couple of waiters suggest meals that I hadn't thought of (not because they were more expensive, just the opposite in fact). The food arrives quickly, and while you wait you get to chow on complimentary chips with salsa and some delicious white creamy dip. If you're a margarita drinker, I would recommend the ones here. They're not so ""bottled mix"" tasting as other places, they're cheap, and the drink mixer is not stingy with the tequila! All in all, I love this place. It's so fun when the divey-looking places turn out to have great food along with their great prices! more

Friendly and fast, cheap food, pretty good quality. I'd go back! I have my qualms about the place being right next to a graveyard, but, eh... whatever, right! I enjoyed the RANCH sauce... not cheese like some people think, not too sure how a person could exactly mistake that for cheese, but eh... whatever, right... and the salsa that came with the chips. more

I visited El Loro in Coon Rapids yesterday. While the service and food was subpar at best, my greatest surprise was when I left my table for a moment only to return to find my prescription Versace eyeglasses missing from my table. I asked waitstaff and management. I received no assistance and an incredibly rude attitudes from all staff members including the owner. Visit this restaurant if you have no other alternatives but make sure you keep all of your personal belongings in hand and out of sight from the corrupt thieves that work there. more

My family and I are from New York were there is a large Mexican population. How surprised we were when we went to El Loro right near our new house and got authenic Mexican food. We go there at least once a month. The decor and restaurant itself is nothing to gush over but the food makes it so worth it. They are usually super fast which is great for the kids and the prices make it very affordable to eat out. Pros: great food Cons: ambience is lacking more

we have been comming here for some time now. In are visits we had to sacrifice service for food but was usually worth it. last week my girlfriend and i were eating , she had a small fruit fly in here beans. this was the last straw. we will never go back here again. more

This place has great food and friendly service at a terrific price! I am lactose intolerant and they never look at me funny when I ask for no cheese or sour cream. Even if they did, their terrific margaritas would make me not care :) Pros: Yummy! more

Being from California, I really miss Authentic Mexican, not Minnesota Bland. This place really hit the mark. It was very tasty and a great value! I drove 20 miles just to try it and I will be back! Delicioso! more

Not impressed. I went with my girlfriend on Cinco de Mayo. As expected it was extemley busy. Service was non-existant. They did not have enough people working. Food was ok. I actually love going here, but I have been disappointed on a few things. First is the service. The wait staff is friendly but sometimes there are some communication (language) problems and sometimes the service is poor. I just go in prepared for this because they have some of the best Mexican food I've had here in Minnesota so far. I'm from Phoenix and am used to good authentic Mexican food and it is usually hard to find here, especially in the northern suburbs. There are some items that I definitely stay away from - the beef enchiladas come to mind - just very strange from what I am used to. All-in-all, big portions, usually great food, and good prices.
