Expensive and That's It 10/3/2011

Nice and clean, we had good service. And all four of us agreed the food was nothing to write home about. I had crab soup which was bland and large crabs in oil and garlic. I never had this before. It was not flavored in oil and garlic it was soaked in oil with little garlic flavor, little of any flavor. If you like bland food this is the place to go. more

DiNardo’s has the best crustaceans in Philadelphia 5/29/2011

There’s just something different about the seafood here. Located a short cab ride from Downtown Philly, is DiNardo’s. A non-descript, red brick building with a wooden sign swaying in the breeze points to the front entrance of this establishment. The huge crab on their sign hints that maybe you should try the crab. The Blue Claw crabs are flown in everyday from the Gulf Coast. Unlike their cousins in the Chesapeake, these Gulf Coast crabs are “free swimmers”, which means bigger crabs and more meat.\r \r Let’s look at their raw bar. Clams on the Half Shell are half dozen freshly shucked ice-cold beauties served atop ice accompanied by cocktail sauce and lemon. These clams are sweet with a scent of the sea. These are the best clams on the half shell I have ever had. The cocktail sauce is the best cocktail sauce I’ve ever had, sweet with just the right amount of horseradish. Thumbs up with 5 stars!\r \r Oysters on the Half Shell are five plump, freshly shucked mollusks also served atop ice with cocktail sauce and lemon. These bi-valves have a clean, fresh taste. The cocktail sauce is a perfect compliment to these delicious babies. Thumbs up with 5 stars!\r \r Okay, I know you’ve been waiting for it. Let’s talk crab! The Steamed Crabs come in 4 different sizes – regular, large, jumbo, and extra jumbo. Take into consideration the amount of time it will take you to crack these open. It’s not like eating Dungeness or King Crab legs. DiNardo’s has paper placemats showing the technique on how to crack and get the meat out or ask your server. They are always happy to help. Being from Hawaii, I know how to eat a crab – all of the crab. It's in my blood. The crabs are steamed to perfection with lots of DiNardo’s propriety blend of herb and spices, very reminiscent of Old Bay seasoning, but a little different. The meat is sweet but when the seasoning from your fingers mixes, it takes to a whole other level – salty, spicy, and just down right delicious. Thumbs up with 5 stars!\r \r If you have the craving for seafood, crabs in particular, stop by DiNardo’s. It’s definitely famous for crabs in my book.\r \r Savings Tips: DiNardo’s is a new member of idine. Check out idine’s website for discount information. more

Tourist Trap!! 3/31/2011

Would not go back - this is a tourist trap - and that is how we were treated by our waiter - $100 for two people who had one beer each with dinner - WAY over priced, Fabric on seat in booth was ripped; water glasses are plastic; silverware right out of Waffle House. Most entrees at $25-plus. Will never, ever go back! more

Not what I expected 2/26/2011

We went there for our first date night in almost a year (after baby). The staff was nice (the inside definately doesn't match the outside as another reviewer put it), but the food didn't sit right with us for the rest of the night. The crab cakes aren't firm with any lump meat, but mushy and stringy. I had 2 mussels out of 4 that had grit when I bit down. The calamari was good. We'd like to try just getting the crabs there (since they seem to be ordered frequently), but it's going to be a while before we feel comfortable going back to try it. I don't usually write negative reviews, but my husband has an iron stomach and feels the worst out of both of us. more

DiNardo's- the crabs were delicious 4/26/2010

What a great place. I started going to DiNardo's about 6 months ago. My girlfriend took me their because she knew how much I enjoyed crabs(I am born and raised from Baltimore). Although I LOVE my Chesepeake Bay crabs, I have never had a better crab. I am not sure where they get them, but I would kill for that recipe. My girlfriend usually winds up getting steak, which she claims is as good as any where (I go for the crabs). I love everything about this place. I would suggest this place to anyone. Awesome place! Pros: Great Food and Service more

AMAZING FOOD FAR ABOVE EXPECTATIONS 2/27/2010

I had low expectations for this restaurant after reading some of the reviews on this site, but was completely impressed! The food is just so good in comparison to other comparable restaurants in Center City. Our appetizer was big delight. Exactly as our waitress described it:The waitress was very attentive and punctual. The food was amazing we don't know what we enjoyed more the appetizers or the meal. Dinardo's crabs are amazingly delicious and the mussels are to die for .I look forward to taking many more trips to Dinardo's in the near future Pros: GREAT CRABS Cons: CAN GO AS OFFTEN AS I WOULD LIKE TO more

GREAT PLACE FOR GREAT FOOD 2/27/2010

WHILE TAKING IN THE SITES OF THE CITY I CAME ARCOSSED DINARDOS AND DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. AN I AM VERY HAPPY THAT I DID. I WAS DELIGHTED TO RECIEVE A WARM WELCOME FROM THE STAFF A SOON AS I ENTER THE BULIDING. THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE SURE I ENJOYED MY VIST TO THERE RESTAURANT. I HAVE NOT BEEN A BIG FAN OF SEAFOOD IN THE PAST BUT DINARDO'S HAS CHANGED THAT THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING FROM THE APPERTIZERS TO MY MEAL.I AM LOOKING FORWARS TO MY NEXT VIST AND PLAN ON TELLING EVERYONE ONE HOW GREAT THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS. more

Unbelievably Gross 2/17/2010

My husband and I went on our first date approx. ten years ago at Dinardo's and we had a pleasant dining experience, just never really went back because we now have three kids and not as much time or money to wine and dine. So to celebrate Valentine's Day my husband decided that it would be nice to go there so he made the reservation and we got there and the place was wide open. The place looked a lot dingier then what we had remembered and our waitress reeked of cigarettes. So we were trying to roll with the punches and then our food comes out. The appetizers were okay. Not great but not as terrible as our entrees. I ordered the snow crab legs which were served partially warmed and cold in some spots and my husband ordered the blackened scallops which looked and tasted like little miniature hockey pucks. Awful. I wouldn't feed my dog the food that they serve there. Not to mention they goes us for $120.00 with a $20.00 tip. Called after the fact and spoke to the owner who wanted to rectify the situation by giving me a gift card to come back instead refunding a fair portion of my money since we paid and left half of our platters. I told her thanks but no thanks. Places like this really need to be shut down. Pros: No wait.... now I know why. Cons: The entire experience. more

Disgusting Food, Bad Service, Dirty Restaurant 9/23/2009

Went there for restaurant week and was surprised to see that the inside DID NOT fit the outside at all! We still decided to give it a try. Then the Crab Bisque soup came out....eww...I had to practically beg the waitress to take it back so that I could try something new. Then the Clam Chowder came out....eww...it didn't look or taste fresh...almost like it was old. The buffalo shrimp were fried frozen shrimp drizzled with chicken buffalo sauce that was so spicy and salty my taste buds went numb. To top it all off, when we told the manager that the food quality wasn't good and that we wanted to leave, they charged us for our UNEATEN food...then yelled at us because they alread ""started cookin"" (microwaving) our entrees. Overall it was terrible. One of those places that puts a lot of lemons and lettuce on the plates as garnish...If you want better seafood...Trust the Gordon's Fisherman's...or go to Red Lobster! Pros: Location Cons: Food is Terrible, Service is Bad, Restaurant is Old/Dirty more

Not worth it!! 11/5/2008

asked a group of friends to go here to celebrate my birthday with the hopes of getting some succulent crab legs.. We all decided we would never dine here again. First of all the place is as big as a city row house. The tables are all jam packed together. Its just a little too close. The lighting is very dim and the light over our table flickered the whole time. There is no background noise, no elevator music.. nothing. That in addition to the dim lights gave the restaurant an eerie feeling. Our waitress spilled drinks on us as she was setting them down. She did not know from which side to serve. The crab soup was nothing but canned veg soup with crab meat and added salt. Our entrees were tasty but 2 people ordered the crab cake and they both had shells in them. The food is overpriced (I ordered the king crab legs for $35 and received 2 {two} crab legs and a baked potato. One slice of boxed pumpkin cheesecake was $6.75) and the quality is extremely lacking. NOT fine dining in the least. I would never recommend this hole in the wall. Pros: The crab legs were not horrible. Cons: Too expensive for the quality. My whole party was disappointed and wanted Red Lobster instead. more
