Cold pizza, slow service, rude waiter 10/25/2010

Four orders at table all came out at different times. One pizza completely cold. Two lukewarm. All three of those pizzas very bland. Might have tasted good if they were hot, but we will never know. Every step from first drink order to getting our check took forever. Were going to order desert, but decided it was totally not worth the trouble. Obviously understaffed, which made it hard on the waiter. However, rather than explaining the situation and being pleasant he chose to be rude to the customers. Won't go back. more

Good Pizza, Okay Experience 10/10/2008

The pizza is pretty good. It has a good crust texture, and the sauce has a ton of flavor. There is a wide variety of pizza toppings, although it should be larger considering that there is not much else on the menu other than pizza. If you're not going to offer more than 2 pasta dishes and some boring salads, you should have some more gourmet toppings. There are only a few appetizers to choose form as well, which does not make you want to eat a full meal there...maybe just order food to go. There was not music playing when we ate there, so the dining room was dead silent. I found this troubling since you could hear every work of your neighbors' conversations. There was only 1 waitress, and she was visibly overwhelmed. Also, it took a while to get the food. The pizzas are baked fresh, which is a great aspect of the place. However, one would think that throughtout the day, they would be at least baking crusts at 30-minute intervals or something. We waited 25 minutes for a pizza, which is too long to wait at lunch. Also, this establishment does not take Discover...I believe just V and MC. I take issue with establishments that do that. It's like they're saying to you, ""We don't care what type of credit/debit cared you use...the fees are too high, and we don't value your business enought to pay the extra 4%."" For those reasons, the good pizza is not enough to get me to go back. Pros: better than average pizza, offers no cholesterol cheese Cons: not adequately staffed, too quiet in the dining room, only takes certain CC's more

""Do we look like we came here to watch?"" 2/16/2008

Nice patio, and the staff seems to think people sit at the outside tables just to take a load off, not to actually eat. My wife and I have never had good service at Davinci's. On our last and final attempt to give them a chance, we sat at a table outside. After being seated for 5 minutes, a large group of people arrived. A waitress asked us to move so that she could accomodate the large group. We politely moved to another table across the patio. So there we sat for the next 10 minutes watching servers go in and out. I swear if I were a person of color, I would have cried racism. We left. Never been back, never will go back. more

Pizza is to die for! 8/22/2007

One of the best pizza places in Nashville - especially their specialty pizzas! Very expensive, however, and they lack one of the best qualities of most pizzerias - they don't deliver!! Pros: Great food Cons: No delivery, expensive for pizza more

""No, no one has helped us yet..."" 4/7/2007

We went expecting an experience fitting its high prices and ""gourmet"" designation, but were sorely disappointed. We waited 15 minutes or more for anyone to even take our drink order, because apparently the 3 or 4 waiters and waitresses that kept walking by and looking at us thought someone else was helping us. Though we had our whole order ready, the woman who finally helped us only took our drink order. I had the Gabbiano Chianti, which I enjoyed when in Rome earlier this year. The wine was fine, of course, but served in a juice glass!! That definitely takes away from the ambiance! We ordered the DaVinci pizza, drawn by its Italian sausage, red peppers, and several cheeses. The taste of the pizza was fine, but let me just say: a thin slice of red pepper on top of each slice is a garnish, not an ingredient!!! \r \r The ambiance was nice, but overall, there's no reason to go there! Notice that all the awards and the good recommendations on this site stop after 2003--must have undergone new management. more

Terrible, terrible pies 1/17/2007

This has to go down as the worst pizza I have ever tasted. I've lived in some great pizza locales (manhattan, brooklyn) and suffered through some lousy pizza places (los angeles, baltimore), but DaVinci's is far and away one of the worst pies out there. The restaurant looks nice, but the pies are unedible. I would not reccommend this place to anyone and seriously doubt the taste buds (or integrity) of anyone who likes this pizza. Blech!\r \r Try Joey's or Uncle Gio's instead. more

DaVinci's Gourmet Cornbread 9/29/2006

Expecting pizza, we were surprised to end up with what tasted like a thin layer of cornbread with the requested toppings. The ""homemade"" sangria was homemade in the way that Kool-Aid is homemade. The atmosphere and service were the only redeeming qualities of an otherwise disgusting and hurtful meal. Were Justin Timberlake going to film his next video at DaVinci's, I don't think it would be out of bounds to say that he would title his song ""Cornbread Back."" Go ahead be gone with it. Pros: We never have to eat there again. Cons: Cornbread posing as pizza. more

My 2nd Favorite Pizza in Nashville 8/5/2006

Cozy atmosphere and excellent pizza. I LOVE a good pizza and this one is worth many return trips. Hard to beat. Pros: Cute little house with loads of Nashville charm Cons: Parking could be a problem during peak hours. We parked right in front but it was the middle of the afternoon. more

Gourmet? 2/24/2006

This pizza is horrible and outrageously priced. The crust appeared to be almost entirely semolina, dense and weighty. The sauce was too salty and tasted as though it came from a can and was laden with preservatives. No freshly crushed tomatoes here, which one would expect for the price paid. ($13-20). The cheese which was of a better quality, buttery and fibrous, went entirely to waste on this awful pie. I'm not sure if it was the price or the ambiance of the restaurant but I expected the pizza to be cooked in a brick oven. However this was not the case, one of the staff actually informed me that they cook the pizzas in an old cookie oven. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient. The atmopshere was homey and warm. But the pizza was no good. Avoid this pretentious and overly priced pizzeria like the plague. Pros: attentive staff Cons: expensive, pizza not worth it more

Acceptable, but overrated 6/27/2005

This is a nice-looking, cool place to hang out or go on a date. The dining room has high ceilings and an old fireplace (that unfortunately does not work). Another plus is the patio. But, you're here for the piza. . . Gourmet pizza does not get its name from toppings alone. The overall preparation is also key. Although there are some creative combinations from which to choose, I have consistently gotten pizza that is too salty, too dry, or even worse, cool to the touch. I suppose it is so thin that it can't stay hot for too long. Either way, if you call in an order, arrive early so that your pie is at least lukewarm! There are other times, especially when dining in, that I half-heartedly enjoyed the food. Great concept, but mediocre gourmet pizza. Pros: Good parking, Nice atmosphere Cons: Dull neighborhood, Somewhat pricy more

Go to DaVinci's 6/4/2004

I would recommend DaVincis to anyone. The pizza is great and you can create your own from all the toppings they have to offer. The staff is always entertaining and they make you feel like you have been coming there for years. If you are going on the weekends, go early to make sure you do not have to wait. Great location if you are doing anything downtown or around West End. Pros: food, beer and wine more

Yes!! 8/18/2003

Pizza is different everywhere, and this place has its own unique flavor. Very popular, great menu options, friendly staff, and very comfortable. This place is also very good for non-smokers, and though they have a smoking area, they smartly convert the whole place to non-smoking when patrons seem to demand it. No doubt, DaVinci's could go NON-smoking and do well....very well. This is a hard working staff. The place almost has an East Nashville feel to it...almost a neighborhood spot. Watch yourself though when returning to your car at night. Generally safe, but not an area to let your guard down completely. Pros: Great Pizza, Great staff, Gabiano Chianti Cons: Can't think of any more

Favorite Pizza in Nashville 1/31/2003

This is our favorite pizza in Nashville-- and we are huge pizza fans. The toppings are very fresh and generous, the blend of cheeses incredible. We also love the atmosphere-- great house with fireplace in one room, conducive to lively conversation. Definitely not your typical pizza place. Makes a great selection for a fun date or meeting a bunch of friends. more

DaVinci's- where pizza is a work of art 1/9/2003

3 of us went on a Friday & got an immediate. Breadsticks were hearty like a pretzel, were dusted with parmesan cheese & served with a good size serving of your basic tomato sauce. 2 shared a medium BBQ chicken pizza. It was above average although the crust was not crispy enough. It was the right size for 2 people. 3rd person had a medium Hawaiian pizza which he enjoyed. Sat at a table in a living room type setting. Tables are fairly close together but we didn't bump into anyone. Lighting was bright enough & it was not too loud so we could hear each other. Non-smoking. Service was a little slow; it seemed that there was only 1 waiter for the room. We didn't think he checked back with us enough. Would we go back? Yes, on a day where we could sit outside in their small courtyard. Pros: selection, outside seating, got immediate table Cons: unattentive waiter more

Good Place for Pizza in Nashville 11/4/2002

Nice place to have some pizza with Italian Beer. Nice Decore. Parking place is kind of hard to find if you go there at busy times. more

Delicious!!! 10/16/2002

There is only one word for DaVinci's, DELICIOUS! Friends took me out to DaVinci's and promised me that I would love it. I am convinced that DaVinci's is the best pizza eatery in Nashville! I will never settle for anything less! Pros: fast service, fresh pizza more

Every daVinci's Pizza a Work of Art 9/26/2002

daVinci's has been one of my favorites since moving to Nashville almost 2 yrs ago, and for good reason. Pizza that balances itself, combines just the right amount of acidic-basic-exotic (the Southwest has a crisp-and-tender crust, smothered in tomato-salsa, and laden with GENEROUS toppings and a cool sprinkling of fresh cilantro), and has offerings you're just not going to find elsewhere (potato pizza, and a shrimp-and-scallop deep-sea combo, to boot). Not to be missed is the Spinach & Bleu Cheese (hold the bacon, it can get a little heavy) and the Bella Vita-- both are AWESOME, and do a great job of offseting strong, pungent tastes against delicate garden-fresh ones. Great tastes, great experiences, every time. Pros: toppings piled HIGH!!, Ambience/ setting, Indoor/Outdoor Dining Cons: A little pricey.... more

simply divine 8/6/2002

The cute old-style house sets this gourmet pizza off from any other. The lighting was just right and allowed for very cordial quarters. Once the cute server took your order, the smells just set your appetite a' rumblin'. The smells certainly did not disappoint one of superb taste according to the taste of the wonderful pizza. Pros: service great, lighting great, great parking Cons: not big enough, voices carry well more

Simply the Best 7/31/2002

Consistently great pizza. Always great, worth the drive from Lebanon. Pros: unique Cons: costly, but worth it more

Bravissimi! 7/31/2002

The crust, the toppings, the sauce...I wish I was eating one right now! The service is usually dependable, but it's best to go early and not wait until the dining area is full. A real treat as take-out food too! more
