Great place for hanging out. I loved the place.

Worst

Not only were they 30 minutes late, but they completely messed up our order. We are less than a block away from them. How does this happen? I don't know. Had to eat stale chex mix...

An Amazing Slice with a Dash of Nice = a great place to eat! 1/23/2011

Last week, a friend and I were strolling down Congress around mid-afternoon, and we were fortunate enough to come across Cozzoli's Pizza. I'd been there once before, but it looked different this time.. I think the massive construction-site-makeshift-sidewalk must have been blocking it before if I remember... Anyway, I remembered the slice I had before being DELICIOUS, but this time, I was extra hungry and went for the pepperoni rolls. I took one bite and knew I'd made a great decision!! The cheese was thick but soft, and it seemed so fresh. The sauce had a bit of sweetness to it, but it wasn't overwhelming like other sauces, (usually the ones with excessive oregano). It was just great. To top it off, the bread was baked to perfection, golden and just firm enough to keep all the deliciousness within safe and sound. Am I getting carried away? If so, these pepperoni rolls definitely deserve it! It would seem the place gets more business with the pizza slices than with the other items-- I'm not sure-- so I'll make sure to point out that the slice I did have a while ago was also wonderful. The cheese was equally fresh, and the sauce was great, too. I prefer more sauce on my pizzas, but it was fine. With the crust being on the thinner side here, it wouldn't have been able to handle more sauce. Just a different style from my usual, but still, delicious! The staff was yet again friendly, and I appreciated the time they took to make sure my lunch was worth my time and money. I'd say I waited about... 15 minutes? Some might think that's a while, but come on, if you want fast, formerly frozen food that's either fried or full of funny-sounding ingredients.... get in your car and hit the nearest drive-thru window. Cozzoli's Pizza is most definitely not fast food, and I'll be the first to say I like them all the more for it. Quality cuisine, friendly faces, perfect prices... I'm certainly going back! more

Real bad service!!! Hostile management. 9/20/2010

Last evening, we had our worst dining experience that we've had for a long time at Cozzoli's. My wife and I, our daughter and son-in-law, and two granddaughters (ages 4 and 10) had gone to the Paramount Theater in the late afternoon and we got out a little before 6 PM. We were hungry and looked across the street and saw the sign for Cozzoli's pizza on Congress Avenue.\r \r We went in and ordered two large pizzas and drinks. I asked how long the order would take and I was told 20 to 25 minutes. At the time we went in, there were about 8 to 10 other people in the restaurant. It was not busy.\r \r After waiting almost a half-hour, I went over and asked about the status of our pizza. I was told it would be another 5 to 7 minutes. I went back and we waited. After about another 10 minutes, my son in law went over to inquire about the status of our order. He was told it would be another 7 to 10 minutes Now, keep in mind, we were all hungry, particularly our granddaughters who are complaining about the wait.\r \r I went over to the counter and complained to one of the employees about the slow service. He responded that they had really been busy and they were backed up. From what I had been able to see, there was not much business taking place and they should have been able to handle it without much difficulty.\r \r Finally, at about seven o'clock, I went over again inquired about the status of the order. At that time, an older gentleman, who was identified as the owner, came over and started yelling at me, telling me he was going to throw us out for complaining about the service. I told him that we've been waiting for an hour and I told him if he threw us out, I’d call the police since we’d already paid for the pizza we hadn’t received. One of the employees behind the counter then piped up and said it had not been an hour but rather about a half hour. I pulled out my credit card receipt which had a time on it of 6:01 PM. Again, the owner started yelling at me. If I hadn't already paid, and given a 15% tip, I would have been glad to walk out and go somewhere else.\r \r We finally received one Pizza shortly after that, but it was one for the adults and not the grandchildren. They had to wait another five or 10 minutes for theirs.\r \r After all that, the pizza was okay but it did not live up to the billing outdoors which said that have been “voted the best pizza in Austin” since sometime in the 1980s. If that is s true, the only one that ever had a vote was the owner of the restaurant.\r \r Unless you're desperate and cannot find another place to eat, stay away from this place. \r more

Great Pizza and Friendly Staff 8/20/2008

Irecently ate at Cozzolis Pizza at lunch time, it is great pizza but the Gyro and greek salad is the best i have eaten. They are always fast and friendly. If you need something made your own way they go out of there way to make it for you. It has a friendly atmosphere and is very clean. Every Friday they serve something different for there daily special. If you want great pizza, Pasta, Gyros and subs go and visit Cozzolis. You are never disappointed. Pros: Fast service Great atmosphere Cons: Hard to find parking during the day more

Rude Nazi's/ Fido, I Don't Think We're In Austin Anymore...... 11/8/2007

Just by principle, I will not be returning to this rude establishment. A couple of earlier reviewers mentioned that it does not have the ""Austin atmosphere"". I found out first-hand today, when I attempted to buy a slice of pizza for a homeless person, that it doesn't have the Austin laid-back attitude, either. I and a co-worker had befriended Trey and his dog, Arielia, a number of years ago so I didn't think twice about buying Trey a slice of pizza. \r But the owner, upon seeing a homeless person eating in his establishment, shouted ""I want you and your dog off my property"". Sweet Arielia had sat patiently outside on the sidewalk the whole time waiting for her guardian to finish eating. Since I had purchased the pizza, I explained to the owner that Trey had the right to eat where I choose, that I would no longer return to this establishment and planned to give it a poor review on city search. I'm disgusted with anyone who treats the homeless this way. Please boycott Cozzoli's!\r \r more

Best crust, hands down. 7/20/2006

I work at the central library and started going to Cozzoli's due to it's proximinty. I have kept going because there is always a giant slice of terrific pizza loaded with flavorful toppings waiting for me when walk in. The crust balances crunchy, chewy and yeasty to perfection. The atmosphere is pleasant and clean if a bit antiseptic (which is fine with me, I like to read while I eat.) It's a mystery to me why this place is always basically empty when I go in. Maybe it doesn't seem ""weird"" enough to some. But if it's all about the pizza, you won't find a better spot. Pros: crust, toppings, speed of service Cons: atmosphere a bit dull more

Cozzoli's Best Hands Down 9/20/2004

Cozzoli's makes the best pizza and it isn't close. I like all types of Pizza including Chicago, New York (like Cozzoli's), thin crust, thick crust and others, but Cozzoli's does what it does better than anyone else does what they do. Cozzoli's lacks the Austiny feel that seems to color so many opinions in this city, but if you want Austin's best Pizza you can look no further. If you are looking to eat pizza while affirming your Austinness, go to Frank and Angie's and be a team player by pretending it is much better than it really is. If you want the best pizza in Austin go to Cozzoli's. Pros: Unreal Pizza, Superior Pizza, Peerless Pizza Cons: , Employees lack angst, conformists more

bravo for this pizza! 1/16/2003
