Do not get Clear service -- ever since sold in 2013, no longer functional 10/11/2014

My hotspot has never worked and I always resort to using my phone. After paying for service for over a year and a half I finally wised up and cancelled my account. Why did I wait so long? Clear is the worst service and waste of money I have ever signed up for. I have so many regrets: signing up for auto pay; device never worked; when i called about device not working they wanted ME to pay for new device and shipping! Customer service tree took an hour every time I had to call. Clearly outsourced to Philippines during the time I've had my account. When they merged with Sprint they raised my monthly fee! I had to call and haggle to keep my original price that I committed to. Such a disappointment and it would have all been spared had I just NEVER SIGNED UP! more

More than disappointed....no Internet between 11pm and 9am in Tomball, next to the tower. Customer service representative reads his card with instruction what to tell. No help provided at all. more

CLEAR totally sucks 9/22/2012

Super easy to sign up, no contracts, super easy to install, just plug in and go. Ive had CLEAR for about a year now and moved throughout Houston with it. Everywhere I go the connection speed is TERRIBLE. I may have full bars on the modem, but my download speed has never gone over 200 kb/s, and its usually lower than that. speedtest.net grades my download speed an F- its so slow yall. Im so done with it its only a matter of time befor i switch to something else. My iphone is faster i actually turn off WIFI in my own home when browsing the web on my phone so it goes faster. pretty sad.... more

really bad internet,really slow,and on top of that they are liars;we been calling to see if they can fix the speed and they keep saying that the tower is congested and that in a couple of days it will be fix;as been a week and nothing,we are very disappointed. more

Clear Internet SUCKS!!!!! 6/18/2012

Every night, it slows down to less than dial up speed, just enough to "work", but hangs up every website. During the day, it's so-so, but that's how they sucker you in when they show it to you in their businesses, and you may have ok speed for a while, but then they dial you down at night, when most people want to use it!!!! It progressively gets slower after 6pm; around 10pm and later, it's practically unusable. more

Not a good bargain 5/21/2012

Clear offers very slow internet service and appalling customer service. I cancelled my service and was sure to ask that I would not be billed the next billing cycle and was told I would not be charged for any future service. 16 days later my bank was hit with another monthly charge. Called back and they claimed there was no record of a cancellation request for my account. I was told they would be happy to process my cancellation request and I might be able to get a refund... Waiting on billing to call. Was a customer for 5 months + one month in limbo. more

I used clear internet for 2 years, so I base my review on a full 2 years of service. The first year the service was off and on, and I continually considered canceling. Then it would get better. Then for the 2nd year it was mostly acceptable. Then about a month ago, after not being able to get consistent service (off and on) for a few days, I decided it was time to just switch. The quality improvement, going from Clear to Broadband, was much more significant than I had expected. For Home internet, why would someone pay more for less reliable slower service then available from Time Warner? (Well maybe if one is frustrated enough with the Time Warner advertising manipulation and gimmicky plans that paying more for less is worth not having to deal with Time Warner ). Things I get with Time Warner I could not get with Clear: - Reliability. So far it works when I get up in the morning, every morning. I know that no service is 100% reliable, but Clear failed me many times before I switched to Time Warner. - Ability to listen to Pandora, even when I first get up in the morning. I thought it was an issue with the Pandora site, that they always failed to come when I did a refresh (after getting the message that I needed to refresh on my Pandora screen). But this problem went completely away when I switched from Clear to Time Warner. -Netflix does not need to stop and do additional buffering due to my signal slowing down. more

Clear started out as a great service then miserably crashed and burned. I have been a customer for two years. Starting about 6 months ago the service became practically useless. I called customer service multiple times. I always got someone who was hard to understand and of very little help. At first they told me I was the problem and that I was using to much data. Note my usage of the service never changed. When I finally got someone who would listen to me (the 4th customer service agent and 3rd day of calling) and take the time to consider that their customer was not the problem I was finally walked through some trouble shooting. The customer service agent couldn't give me a reason I was having trouble and told me the problem was the tower had to much traffic. When I asked when the issue would be fixed he couldn't give me an answer. I call back several times over the next couple of weeks trying to figure out the issue because the tower guy didn't sound to sure of himself either with no result. So I found new Internet service. I call back AGAIN only to be told I will have to call back on Monday because no one has the ability to cancel my account on a weekend. It is beyond ridiculous that a customer service agent can't perform a customer service because it's a Saturday. I am beyond frustrated. I feel like I have been duped. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and HORRIBLE CONNECTION. I want my money back for the last 6 months and I want to tell the world how horrible Clear is. And one more thing... It wasn't until I started researching where to leave bad reviews that I found out there are actual clear stores. Not once did the sucky customer service mention this. We haven't even had this crap for month and we have called over two dozen timezs funny thing us they only have records of us calling maybe once or twice oh the person who said it fits well behjnd their tv and jt works great must work for clear because i kid you not i just got off the phone nd she said one thing that mightbe giving us problems is if we hve the modem within five feet of a microwave fridge or tv.....uh are they serious. I also called 7 different numbers all of which werw disconnected. We are gettjng rid of this tomorrow we bought the modem for best buy with whom i will also let know they are making themselves look bad carrying this scam which is what it has to be. I am not even going to waste my time trying to get my money back. We have our xbox connnected by hardwire and they find that out and tell us it is because we have it plugged in wrong....if we are paying for WIRELESS it shouldnt freakin matter. Horrible and deceptive! 2/2/2012

phone and internet service went off and on all the time and internet service was ridiculously slow. Signed up over the phone & I asked & I was told about their no contracts, no cancellations fees. That was appealing,. no contracts and no fees to canel service at any time. Well,...we cancelled service and were charged a $40.00 restocking fee. When I tried to dispute the charge, I was told it was because we cancelled service before our contract was up. When I told them we were told that there was no contract, I was told, "that 's right. You have no contract, but you ARE in a contract." How can you be in a contract and not be in a contract. That was one of the reasons we decided to try Clear because there was no contract and no fees to cancel. Well, they will charge you to cancel and then try to call it a restocking fee. more

Really Wish I had other options right about now 1/14/2012

We moved to the country and didnt have any options besides Clear or dial up. Bought the modem, had trouble getting it set up, and got the run around. Finally got it set up and for about 30 days had no problems. Signed up for the "unlimited" plan, only to find out they are throttling our service and kicking us off. Customer service is a joke, they are out of country and stick to the script and apologize. when I asked for a credit for the time that I am being disconnected, was told that since I was a high volume user, no credit would be given. I asked how I can get flagged as a high volume user when I signed up for an unlimited data plan...Their response was to unplug my modem for 24 hours so it could rest and the server could re-prioritize our modem. Will be filing compliants with as many Agencies as I can think of...from another computer...starting with the Attorney Generals office. more

I am really happy with my purchase. When I bought it I started in my office and there were only 2 LED strength. with this Netflix didnt work properly, web browsing was also slow. When I got in my apartment, the strength was 5 LEDs and everything was much better than my ATT DSL internect connection. The device is not so big and fits right behind my TV and just plug and play kind of connection. I started with $35 per month plan and able to get good speed with whatever I do, which is cheaper and also faster than my ATT DSL service ($42 per month). I think one should check the signal strength and if it is not more than 3 LEDs then just return it, it is easy to deal with clear. more

System works OK (not great) For any reason if you want to cancel your service - rest assured - you are dealing with CROOKS. You are told that in 30 days you can cancel your service - don't fall for that. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. You can stand hours and on word out of your mouth that its OK, they will bind you in a new contract with more fee. YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND ONE SENTENCE OF WHAT THEY TALK. more

Wow. I know phone and internet companies can be a pain to deal with but Clear takes the cake. Had no problem signing up service for my small business. Had no problem with installation or service for the 2 years I had service. I recently went out of business and called to cancel the service I no longer needed. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN!!! I know that nobody likes when you call to cancel service, sometimes they give a one or two minute speal about how you should stay. NOT THESE GUYS. They just give the run around until you are pulling your hair out and screaming for someone to just cancel the service. You get transferred and tranferred by some outsourced Indian people who have no clue what they are doing and barely speak english. Bottom line, I called the number on the website, it said to change or cancel your service press 3, so I did. It then says hang up and call this number. I called that number and they said I had the wrong department and they would transfer me. They basically just kept me on hold each time for 15 minutes then disconnected me. I called back repeatedly for several hours with the same outcome. I threatened to get my lawyer involved and sue if they could not figure out a way to cancel my service. This did not seem to alter their unwillingness to help me cancel my service. FINALLY AFTER FOUR HOURS THEY SAID THEY WERE CANCELLING MY ACCOUNT WITH A ZERO BALANCE AND GAVE ME A CONFIRMATION NUMBER. THEY ARE NOW CALLING ME EVERYDAY SAYING THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD, THAT ITS NOT GOING THROUGH AND MY SERVICES WILL BE DEACTIVATED WITHOUT PAYMENT!! THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO RECORDS OF ME CANCELLING!!!!! CHRIST ALMIGHTY THESE PEOPLE ARE THE MOST HORENDOUS HUMAN BEINGS I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. I am now begining a legal battle with them as to not have this bogus company ruin my credit. So in a nut shell, if you ever want or need to cancel service with this company, prepare to be willing to close your bank account and hire a lawyer. Good luck! more
