Save your money! 6/2/2011

Went there for dinner tonight and we were the only people in the entire restaurant. Our bill was exactly $42 for two people. We had 2 non-alcoholic beverages, 2 ""egg rolls,"" 2 cups of Wonton soup, pork fried rice and 2 entrees. I would expect that a Chinese restaurant would have dinner specials or combinations, but this restaurant does not. The egg rolls had no meat and were actually spring rolls--the only filling was cabbage and carrots. The wonton soup was luke warm and did not have bbq pork in it. The entrees were large, but the food was mediocre. I would have expected to pay no more than $15 per person for what we ordered, so I feel ripped off. The atmosphere was also terrible, though clean enough. Large restaurant with no one there and very slow incessant asian music lulling us to sleep. If I can keep just one couple from wasting their money and evening at this place, my time will have been well spent. more

Great Food 4/11/2009

I've eaten all over and they are very consistently good. The chef has been cooking great food for over 20 years here in Austin. You always get great portions and friendly service. Pros: Always good Cons: Never had a bad dish so can't say more

Great Food 4/3/2009

Very good food. I tried both the shrimp fried rice and the beef chow mein. Highly recommend. The delivery was very fast as well. Will eat her regularly. Pros: Good food, fast delivery more

Best Chinese Food in Austin! 3/19/2009

I have been eating here for around 9 years, I've tried other restaurants because they were closer to me- but China Cafe always wins. They are the ONLY restaurant I have been to that makes hot and sour soup just how I like it. Everything I've had here tastes great! They seem to be a family owned restaurant, and mostly every staff member I talked to has been friendly. Pros: Great food, friendly staff Cons: Can't think of any! more

Kinda tasty 9/29/2008

The food here is consistantly good and the service has rarely been bad so I really do recommend that you try this place if you are in the neighborhood. There best thing I have ever eaten here was a spicy lamb dish that was a little pricey but was so full of peppers and flavor that I think it was worth it. The appetizers are decently priced and the atmosphere of this restaurant makes you feel pretty good, overall this place is great. Pros: good food Cons: parking is not always easy more

Best Chinese NW Austin and delivers 2/21/2008

Without doubt one of the best Chinese restaurants in town, even those trendy downtown places and others which may be more often heard of. After over 20 years in Austin, still one of my favorites. Food is always fresh and cooked exactly like you want it. They deliver to certain areas close to the restaurant and delivery time is usually quicker than they say except Fridays. Still worth it. THE BEST CHINESE FOOD IN AUSTIN 11/3/2007

My family and I have been going here since it opened. We are from Austin and have been to just about every chinese restaurant in Austin. If you want good fresh inexpensive food - you can never go wrong here. Their food is always fresh and the service is quality. The reviews here have mentioned no substitutions but my family and I ALWAYS have substitutions and have never been denied. These guys have the best in town!!! more

Best Chinese in Austin 1/15/2006

The little China Cafe, tucked away in a shopping center in North Austin, gets my vote for the best chinese food in Austin. Consistently excellent entrees include the Mongolian Lamb (an unusual, spicy dish) and the General Tso's Chicken (not on the menu but always available). Only caveat: they aren't good about allowing substitutions. Great bargain lunch menu with quick service. Pros: great food, nice interior, bargain lunch Cons: no substitutions, dinner menu pricier more

DELICIOUS! 9/7/2005

I just moved to Austin, and I *LOVE* this place! I get the chicken fried rice and I think it's wonderful. If I don't have time to stay and eat I drop in for to-go, and the manager is always SUPER nice! The atmosphere is very relaxing and the waitress is always very kind and attentive. I'd definately recommend it to everyone! And it's next door to the Alamo Drafthouse, which has great fried pickles! =o) Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Calm Quiet Atmosphere more

food we enjoy anytime 5/14/2005

My boyfriend and I have been going here for almost a year now and enjoy it so much. We were going about 2 or 3 times a week but then work got in the way of that. I love there food. Calm and relaxing place to eat. The either manager or Owner who ever he is blue shirt and white apron is so nice and he remembers everyone. I love there combantion lo main. Soups are so great too. So cheap expesally for the amount you get. I eat on my for about 2 days afterwards. Pros: Inexpensive, Nice Staff, Great amounts Cons: bad location, parking is bad more

Best chinese resaurant:) 3/26/2004

This has to be the best chinese food restaurant i've been to, I go here at least once a week, and the people there are extremely nice, and respectful. the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is great. If you are looking for a place to get chinese I would highly suggest China Cafe. Pros: great service, great food more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 1/31/2004

Fave Chinese place in Austin!! From one PICKY eater to another-this is the best. Kay (the mgr) is always friendly and personable. Have to admit-fried rice isn't their best entree, but everything else is. Lo Mein, Chow Mein, crispy eggrolls, spicy H/S soup, Wonton Soup, Potstickers...the list goes on & on. Everything is great & the food can be modified to your taste. They even made a custom order for me once. That is service! That is food! That is China Cafe! Pros: service, service, food more

excellen spicy food - great price 11/16/2002

The title says it all. This is some excellent chinese food and the price is fair especially for lunch. I prefer this restaraunt over almost all chinese restaraunts around Austin including some of the more high end ones. They have all of the food 'health' info on their website as well. Pros: inexpensive for lunch, dinner portions large, great hot-n-sour soup more

less ambiance more substance 9/26/2002

Good place if your tired of the expensive fu fu places. Nice clean place with a pleasant atmosphere. The food might not compare with some of the expensive places in town, but it is still very good for the price. If you're looking for a good chinese place to eat at and want to leave the shirt and tie at home, this is it. Try the sesame chicken. You won't be disappointed. Pros: large portions, good variety, great service more

go at your own risk 6/15/2002

This is absolutely the most horrible Chinese food I have ever eaten. The Egg Drop soup tasted like it had chalk in it. The Egg Rolls were burnt. The fried rice tasted like smoke. The vegetables and meat in my Tri-Delicacy with Garlic Sauce tasted as if they belonged in a trash can. My husband ordered the Sesame Chicken and said that it was nothing but fat (although they claimed it was just the breading they used). The worst part was that when we brought up our dissatisfaction to the management, they insisted that we pay full price for a meal we could not even stand to eat. Pros: won't eat there again, the meal ended fast, steam rice wasn't bad Cons: don't know to cook, bad management more
