Dr. Mahendru is a Lifesaver 3/30/2006

I could not disagree more with the review posted by ejt77 on 03/21/2006. Dr. Mahendru and his entire staff are courteous, compassionate, top-notch professionals. My family practice physician originally referred me to Dr. Mahendru two years ago for a chronic pain condition. Dr. Mahendru literally saved my life by insisting that I get a second opinion from an ENT surgeon, resulting in the diagnosis of a life-threatening Staphylococcus aureus-filled cyst in my right sinus. Since the surgical removal of the cyst, I have seen Dr. Mahendru or one of his assistants on a monthly basis for chronic pain related to previous surgeries. He is a bright, well-educated, caring professional, as are his employees. more

I BECAME VERY DISAPPOINTED IN DR. MAHENDRU. I WAS SCHEDULED FOR AN INJECTION TODAY BECAUSE I HAVE HAD SEVERE SCIATICA BUT BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE AND DID NOT HAVE $1300.00 UP FRONT TO PAY FOR IT I WAS DENIED. BEING A MEMBER OF THE HEALTHCARE FIELD I FULLY REALIZED TODAY IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. more

Injections worked! Too bad the staff doesn't... 3/21/2006

Dr. Mahendru did a great job easing my back pain. However, the front desk and billing department did not ease my mind. I went on a payment plan and they sat on two of my payments for 2 months before cashing them. Another payment they never cashed and I am STILL waiting, 2 weeks later, for them to cash my final payment. I had the injections a year ago. So, unless you can fork up the bill all at once, DO NOT COME HERE! The staff is not friendly and extremely unorganized! Mahendru needs to find better office staff. Pros: it works Cons: unorganized, long waits, unfriendly staff more

I've seen Dr. M on about 4 occasions. Each time I found him to be exceptionally personable and caring. He answered all my questions to my satisfaction. The best thing he did was to get me out of pain and quickly without prescription pain meds. I had back pain so severe that I had to be hospitalized on a morphine drip from time to time. Dr. Mahendru gave me epidural steroid injections that totally alleviated my pain anywhere from three months to one year. They are a good stop gap pain protocol until one can be assessed for surgery or physical therapy. He DID refer me for physical therapy, which did help, some, however, I eventually needed surgery. He has a very well-run office and I found the staff unusually courteous AND efficient. Pros: Effective treatment, Efficient Cons: NONE more

He WILL Drop You! 12/19/2005

I had a similar experience with Dr. Mahendru's office. Basically if you are not a candidate for injection therapy you will not be seen very long. I believe he drops patients because he does not want to waste time in a busy practice just refilling perscriptions. There is no money in that. It was explained to me that he does "interventional pain management," not long term. When he drops you it will be sudden with no warning. even though he told me "I will never abandon you"! Pros: friendly staff, usually on time, in Austin Cons: no comunication, suspicious of you, no choice on meds more

Bedside Manners Needed 7/5/2005

At 4:30 p.m. I cried as I told my husband that it was Mahendru's office that called. "Babe, Mahendru cancelled on us, he says he can't help us." We were dumbfounded! We had an appt the next morning. He had already left us hanging for 6 days w/o meds or conclusive answers to our questions. We were treated uncompassionately by his staff. Embarrassed by his staff, I think he chose not to face us the next morning. It was not good medical practice to leave someone hanging and cancel on them, because it can take weeks to see another Pain Management doctor. more
