Rent a Boat in the City 5/25/2006

If you're dying to get out in the water but can't afford a boat, the Center For Wooden Boats is the best way to go. Take advantage of one of Seattle's best features: Lake Union. Rent a rowboat or a sailboat, or sign up for a lesson. If you've ever wanted to sail a classic gaff rigged boat, here's your chance! All the money you spend goes to sustaining this classic boating museum and providing boating programs to underprivileged kids. This is one of the few places in Seattle that offers sailing lessons one-on-one with instructors - and the price is about the same as if you were in a big group setting. more

A Great Place for an Event 9/22/2005

I've never been to the Center for Wooden Boats during the day, so I can't speak to that aspect of the center. However, as a place to hold an evening event it is spectacular. The room is not large, it probably maxes out at 50-60 people, but as a result it is cozy and intimate. It has the feel of a boathouse, but in a classy, well-kept way. If the weather cooperates guests can go outside through French doors to the spacious decks and enjoy the lights of Lake Union. more

Don't miss the July 4th show 8/16/2005

Center for Wooden Boats does a Wooden Boat Show every 4th of July weekend, and if you appreciate boats, or fine woodworking, or even sea lore and music, it is well worth the price of admission ($5 suggested donation). Wooden boats, in show or working condition, crowd the docks; some can be boarded for a tour. Boatmakers show off smaller craft, including kayaks and sailboats, on dry land. And the "quick and daring" boatbuilder's contest has the excitement of seeing not just who will win... but who will sink. If the weather is good, it's a great way to spend an afternoon. more
