Best kept secret in L.A.! 5/9/2004

I have been eating at this place since I moved to L.A. in 1978. The decor has changed, but nothing else has. THE best Italian food in Los Angeles. I'm sorry for the people who have to wait for the regulars to be seated, but there is a reason the place is always jammed with regulars. It's worth the investment to show up early (with a reservation) a few nights and become a regular! The Chicken Eduardo is what I'd request for my last meal. Best caesar salad in the city, even if they don't make it at your table any more. Pros: Great food, Great bar, Great service more

How to eat at Carmine's II 5/28/2003

The thing to remember is that you can always get an appetizer at the bar-you can even get your whole meal there! And if you get to socialize with Steve the bartender (one of the best EVER!), it makes it a better experience. I'm a regular, and I often volunteer to sit at the bar a little longer, just to hang out with Steve (or Britney, on Saturdays). Go on nights when Tony is playing piano, order a Carmine's cocktail, and enjoy the calamari while you wait. The time will fly by! Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Ambiance Cons: You may have to wait, Drinks can be pricy more

The Truth Says... 1/11/2003

Carmine's II is a Los Angeles jewel. You will not find a more friendly, upbeat atmosphere with authentic italian food on the westside. It can be busy...but relax, have a drink and the calamari fritti with the fun cast of characters at the bar. i'll bet the seafood linguine will be worth the wait. Pros: Great food, Great bar, Live music Cons: Can be busy more

Not Worth the Wait 11/13/2002

I had to wait for 30 minutes WITH reservations and two parties were seated before me because they knew the host! The restraurant is small and loud. Everyone seems to know each other but they don't seem to welcome newcomerst to the ""club"". The food was pretty good but not worth the wait. There is live piano music but it was so loud, I couldn't hear my date speak! I'm definitely not coming back there again! Pros: good Italian food, nice waitress Cons: long wait, loud live music more

This place got 10s? 11/11/2002

I would never go back to or recommend a place that made you wait for 30+ minutes AFTER your reservation time. The service is good if you're a regular as we saw several parties arrive after us and get seated first by Carmine. As newcomers, we couldn't help but feel unwanted. To me, good parking does not mean having to pay for valet service. It may be good for the rich and lazy, but not for me. After 25 minutes of waiting despite having a reservation, the McDonald's next door was starting to look a lot better. The service was quick after being seated though. The food was good, but after such a wait, we probably would have eaten whatever they served us. A little too loud to be romantic in my book. Cons: crowded, newcomers not welcome, too long of a wait more

Badda Bing Badda Bong 8/9/2002

Featuring an atmosphere reminiscent of an old-time New York Italian eatery, Carmine's II has never disappointed me in several visits. The extensive menu and authentically prepared food are reasons to return. The service is friendly and very efficient. It's a great place to enjoy a romantic dinner for two, or celebrate with a group of friends. Pros: Good parking, Great service, Extensive menu more
