Best

Been here twice with my family and nothing to complain about. I recommend Cannon's rib

Worst

The advantage is that there's not too long a wait generally so if you want average BBQ to take out it's all right. As others have noted, the beef brisket is fatty and the chicken ...

Its Called REAL BBQ! 2/17/2005

The bet ever! I travel all over the country year round for my work, this is better than anything in Kansas City or Texas (they say they know BBQ, HA!) Pros: Excellent, Delicious more

great catering 3/9/2004

Everyone loved the pork ribs and the baked beans, and really enjoyed the greens, cornbread and mac and cheese. They even provided tasty, vegetarian versions of some of their sides dishes, which we really appreciated. We'll use Cannon's in the future! Pros: Reasonably priced, Good quality, Good service more

Yummmmmm... 2/7/2004

a man's BBQ 11/5/2003

I've been around. I eat barbecue 4 meals a day. I've eaten at every BBQ place in K.C., St. Louis, Nashville & all of Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, north Texas, and 3/4 of south Texas. I ain't never had better than Cannon's. I do think I liked it better when it was just a hole in the wall & the high society folks stayed away. It might not appeal to you girly college boys, but that's real BBQ. Pros: spicy, big, Cannon's a good man Cons: too popular now more

five stars 10/8/2003

with the recent remodel and added heated space, Cannon's has it all, including one of the friendliest staff around. if i could, i'd lick my plate... Pros: great food, nice people, good location more

Seriously?! 8/9/2003

I'm new to the PDX area and was craving good bbq. I was a little tentative in trying bbq in the Northwest (mainly because I haven't been impressed with any foods yet), but I tried Cannon's. Yes, the smell coming up to the place is incredible. My mouth was watering just seeing the establishment. BUT, I have to say that I was dissappointed with the food. I had the rib tips dinner. It was meaty and lots of food to be eaten. Here's the catch though....it lacked a lot of flavor, sauce wasn't that great, meat was a little tough. Filling, YES, tastey want to swim in bbq heaven, NO. I guess I will try to find a different bbq place...hopefully Cannon's wasn't the best in PDX, if so, I'll be traveling south a lot each year. Pros: Filling, Outdoor seating, Smells Cons: Lack of flavor more

This Ain't It 7/2/2003

I'm from the south, where we eat ribs before we can walk. I'd heard so much about this place that my fiance & I decided to make the one hour drive from where we live to check it out. What a disappointment! The ribs were drowned in sauce, I image to conceal the fact that the meat had no flavor other than the overpowering taste of wood pellet smoke. Which, by the way has more staying power in your digestive system than a brick. The sides, which included potato salad and baked beans which were no more than pork & beans with a bit of bbq sauce(and were served COLD) also were not palatable. If you want good BBQ folks, this ain't it. more

Too good to pass up 12/19/2002

There is an excellent food selection at Cannon's Rib Express. With ribs, chicken & fish available all taste buds are satisfied. There are also a wide variety of side dishes to choose from. I've NEVER had better ribs, salads and peach cobbler. I make a point of going to Cannon's everytime I visit Portland. Pros: excellent value, fresh meat & poultry, delicious desserts Cons: no indoor seating more

dabest 10/25/2002

cannons is, as the kids say, da bomb! best hot link sandwich in town! best sauce too! yam yams, you better clean up your act! Cons: if you dont like, out door seating,, do not go. more

Smelled good... 10/6/2002

You pull up and the smell draws you right in. The menu is great. The taste didn't measure up, unfortunately. The sauce was hot at the expense of flavor, and I thought it was pricey for outdoor, picnic table eating. more

Can't Beat 'Em 9/24/2002

The ribs here are OUTSTANDING! Once a week or so after work we grab a rack of pork ribs with HOT sauce and MMMMMMM...what a treat! The sides are ok and we've had hotter sauces (which we LOVE), but for a take-out place you can't do any better than Cannon's. more

Best ribs in pdx 7/26/2002

Down home style. Good pork ribs. Greens are good. Outdoor seating OR to-go. What you see is what you get. It ain't fancy, but it is good stuff. more

My mouth waters for cannon's 7/25/2002

My mouth waters for cannon's. I love their ribs. Their sauce is the best... Pros: fast, tasty, really tasty:) Cons: a little expensive more

9 out of 10 6/28/2002

When you get out of your car you are blasted with the smell of savory bbq... So right off the bat your taste buds start working and your stomach starts talking. I had the bbq pork ribs which were really good. I chose the medium spiced sauce which was perfect. It was not too hot and not too sweet like some other places. The meet was good.. there was a lot on each bone and they give you about 6-7 ribs per person. You also get two side dishes,, Definetly get the colored greens and bbq beans,, but skip the corn on the cob.. It was obviously cooked earlier in the day. more

pull your car over.... 6/26/2002

....the next time you pass this place. i was heading into four seasons to buy milk and veggies and as i got out of the car, i go a huge wiff of their bbq and suddenly found myself in line. got the $3.50 pork sandwich and couldn't stop eating it (as i had intended to eat it at home). so tender, sauce is to die for and the quality of meat is 5 star. treat yourself right and eat this bbq and DO NOT judge the food by the small little building: great things come in small packages !!! Pros: home made sauce, slow smoker, home style Cons: can't dine in, always a long line more

One of my favorites 6/26/2002

As someone critical of most Portland eating establishments, it's nice to find a gem. The brisket is top notch, and the sauces have a nice balance of sweet and spicy. The wait can be insane, usually due to disorganization within the kitchen. On more than one occasion did we witness employees ""arguing"" about an order mishap. There's too many people in the kitchen, and one person both takes and packages orders - very inefficient. However, they're usually friendly. Prices are a bit too high. Coming from Atlanta and Oakland BBQ, I realize that white bread is a staple with good BBQ. But I wish they would replace that awful Wonder Bread type of bread. Nevertheless, you come here for the BBQ. Pros: brisket, sauces, hot links Cons: kitchen efficiency, prices, wait more
