Hill Country Galleria-terrbile management 11/22/2010

First of all the food is good but very pricey. We had 5 people and web says reservations for 5 or more. When I called to make them the woman was very rude and said we had to have 6 or more.So we get a table quickly but she had to give us an extra chair and was very abrupt and gave us a wine list(which is outrageously priced) but no menus. She never welcomed us or anything. That was our first sign we should have left.Second sign was the waiter came over and said he just got 5 tables and it would be awhile before he could get to us.Never even took a drink order., We decided to stick it out.He was apologetic and offered to get us what we wanted and dessert on the house. One of our friends never got his side order until we were almost done. Then we ordered what we thought would be free dessert. We ordered three for the five of us.They charged us for two because the manager/owner would not let him give us all three. They also included 18% tip for 5 of us! The only reason for a 2 here is because the food was good but menu is limited and abit out there and the service was bad.We should have went to Iron Cactus or Gumbo's.Never going back to any of their locations. more

Argentina's Best in Bee Cave 9/17/2010

Buenos AIres Cafe recently opened in the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave and we are glad they did. I highly recommend the Spinach empanada but don't forget to try them all! The milanesa is fantastic and served best plain with a generous squeeze of lemon. Although flan is the ""go to"" dessert, try the chocolate creme brulee for a delightful departure. The staff is also very knowledgable and attentive. Along with a great selection of Malbec wine, Buenos Aires Cafe truly brings Argentina to Austin. more

Great Food, Lazy service? 3/10/2009

The food at Buenos Aires is fantastic. It's always fresh, always tasty, never a bad meal. The coffee and dessert are also very good. The owner, Chef and most of the staff do an outstanding job. Pros: Wonderful Food, Great Location Cons: strange hours, poor service more

Best Quality Food and Service 9/6/2008

We LOVE this place! Some friends took us to this amazing eatery a little over 5 months ago and we have been 1 (sometimes 2) times a month ever since. Every time we go there is a wait, but that is to be expected considering the quality of the food. We are immediately offered drinks while we wait and seated promptly once another table leaves. First off, try the empanadas, the carne picante is my favorite. They are truly out of this world! The organic spinach salad with pecans, goat cheese and fuji apples is to die for and a steal at $4.99 for a small and $6.99 for a large! As for entrees, you really can't go wrong. The Milanesa and Pollo al Horno are amazing, but if you want to be wowed, go for the special. It is always FRESH and very inventive. Not to mention the stellar presentation. Even if you don't do dessert, you have too here. So basically from start to finish we have loved our food and experience every time. As for service, the staff and head chef/owner are all amazing and very attentive. I would highly recommend Buenos to everyone . Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Terrible Service 5/13/2008

A friend of mine told me Buenos Aires had yummy gnocchi, so I thought I'd try it out. I took another friend who had been before and said the food was good, but the service was really bad. From what I could tell she was absolutely correct. I never actually got my meal (a sandwich) but had some really tasty empanadas. After waiting an hour (yes, an hour) for two sandwiches (yes, sandwiches) we left. It was the lunch hour, but it was a Tuesday. It appeared there was maybe only one waitress for the cafe of 10 tables, but an hour for sandwiches?! When a table that was sat 30 minutes after we were got there food and we were still sat hungry, I called the waitress over. She seemed confused by us not having any food, but said it should be right out. It became pretty clear at that point she had forgotten to put our order in or it had been lost. No apology. No more waitress for another 20 minutes at which point we left. We went across the street to Baby Greens and had delicious salad wraps in our mouths within 10 minutes. more

WOW. Pros: WOOF Cons: You just might have to wait to get a piece of this more

Great service 11/12/2007

I have eaten at Buenos Aires many times and recommend it to everyone I know. The food is amazing and the service is even better. You feel like you are best friends with the guys running the place by the time you leave. I read a few bad reviews of the service, anyone that wrote that has never worked in the service industry. These guys do absolutely the best job they can given the circumstances. This is after all, one of the busiest restaurants in town, they appear to have no bussers or hosts or bartenders, yet they not only take care of you as quick as possible, they make sure you are happy, which must be hard in a tiny. loud, overcrowded cafe. If you go, just buy the special. It is always freaking incredible. It makes up for the fact you might have to wait an hour to sit at a table six inches away from the people next to you. Pros: Great food, great service. Cons: Loud and crowded. more

Best small neighborhood romantic dinner 10/22/2007

I have been here many times and it is always delicious! Be sure to have a bottle of one of their Malbec wines. Pros: Delicious food and wine Cons: Small and popular, so there is often a wait more

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT 9/28/2007

Okay so, forgive me if I gush, but I love Buenos Aires. A co-worker introduced me to this place and it has been my favorite ever since. The lunch and dinner menu are completely different. Lunch has lighter dishes like sandwiches, salads and empanadas. For dinner is is completely gourmet and much pricier. The chef is a grad from Le Cordon Bleu - the highest certification for a chef - and it shows! Try the Spinach Salad and Veradura Empanada or whatever they?re offering as the special for the day. Before you eat, take a peek at the freshly made pastries. The fruit tarts are to die for. Pros: Food, desserts Cons: parking more

Outstanding cuisine! 8/31/2007

This was our first time to this restaurant. Everything was excellent! The wines were exactly as advertised - full-bodied but incredibly smooth. The salads were plentiful and not overdone with heavy seasoning or dressing. The snapper/shrimp entree melted in my mouth. The sponge cake was to die for. The service was very attentive without being obvious and the courses were delivered quicker than any other high-quality restaurant I've ever visited. Minor negatives - they were out of several of the wines that we wanted to try, the seating was very European (bordering on crowded), and the cost reflected the quality of the cuisine - $120 for a party of four, excluding tip. Also, the entrees were quite adequate but not enough for anybody to leave anything on their plate. Even so, we expect to return many times! Pros: Food quality Cons: Parking, ambience, size of entree portions more

Best Lamb Chops I've EVER Had! 8/31/2007

My boyfriend and I love to try new places to eat. We'd never been Buenos Aires because it's on the other side of town from us. But a couple of weeks ago we decided to try it. WOW... it was delicious. WE both ordered the special which as Lamb Chops and we were so glad we did. They just melted in your mouth. We are still talking about them. They were served with huge spicey shrimp that were fresh and perfectly prepared! The only problem is that we both wanted MORE! We started with salads that were both served fresh and beautiful and very GREEN...no iceberg! YEA!. The service was great too. We had a great waiter, but they all did a good job of tag teaming to make sure everyone was well taken care of. Pros: Food-high quality, fresh, beautiful presentation and deliciously prepared. Service great too. Cons: Parking's a little tricky. The dessert we ordered was beautiful and good but not as yummy as it looked. more

Great Little Cafe 2/28/2007

A nice cozy little cafe... the best soup (spinach and mint--may sound strange, but was delish!) The only downer to the experience was the waiter. We could tell he was busy because he was the only one, but no excuse for his attitude; not the friendliest--- perhaps he does not realize it. We asked if we could sit outside and he replied with, ""if you want to."" Now, why would we have asked if we did not want to? I understand he didn't want to be running back and forth, but the place really isn't that big. the pastries were yummy... we tried them in the car, and I would have run in to get more if it weren't for the waiter; I really did not want to deal with him any longer. Why else would we have enjoyed dessert in the car? Pros: pastries, soup Cons: waitstaff more

Great Food 10/15/2006

I've spent a lot of time in Argentina, so I know the food well. Buenos Aires Cafe is a nice representation of Argentinean food. I have been twice and have enjoyed my meal each time. There are few places I've eaten at in BA that were better than this place. This is a great place to go try something different than American & Tex-Mex at a reasonable price. Pros: Food, Service, Pricing Cons: Ambience is so-so, Parking can be tricky, Not a lot of seats more

Unique South American Experience 7/21/2006

We went here one evening after reading the reviews on Citysearch and trying to find something new. What a wonderful surprise! The food was very good. Started with empanadas and then we had the butternut squash gnocchi which was the special of the evening and another dish that is the house favorite (there is a spanish name I can't remember) that was similiar to shepard's pie. All the above were fantastic. We also tried one of the many freshly made in house pasteries for dessert. We were pleased with everything including the charming atmosphere and service. Pros: Good food, nice ambience, good service Cons: Misinformation - do not byob unless you want a corking fee (they have a liquor license now) more

Big surprise! 6/19/2006

This was a great find. It is very unassuming on the exterior but dont judge a book by its cover or in this case a resteraunt by it's icicle lights. It was delightfully charming and immaculately clean. My friend and I went to catch a World Cup game and we were extremely impressed that we weren't rushed at all through our meal. The waiter was very attentive and approachable and the cuisine was different and refreshing and very affordable. Best kept secret in austin. Pros: Great service, affordable food Cons: Limited space more

Love this place 5/16/2006

This is just the most adorable place- the pastries are homemade and to die for. The tres leches is some of the best! It is very stylish and everything is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place. more

Was good at first but they couldn't keep up 4/23/2006

I have been there a few times and I always wonder why there's never an Argentine eating there? Maybe because of the high prices? the bad service? the fact that no-one there has any idea of what an Argentine place should feel like? Almost $3 for one (1) empanada is unheard of, not to mention $10 choripan??? (that's just bread, and sausage). The milanesas are decent, but when I asked for a fried egg on top they looked at me like I was a madman. I don't blame the waiters for that, it is just a matter of not being able to build an authentic menu: No fried egg option, no grill meats, no fernet con cola. Well, that explains why there is NEVER and Argentine person eating there.- Pros: Bring your own wine Cons: overpiced facturas more
