We've been going to Brick Oven in the Arboretum for years. Love the lunch menu, the food is outstanding and well priced. Can't beat the stromboli :)

Awesome Cannelloni, Decent Service, Other Reviews Right About Tension Amongst Workers 12/23/2007

Went here yesterday actually. It was very busy. The inside was nice. It looked like your typical sit down pizza place, (definetely not greasy spoon). Nice enough for a nice night out without breaking your bank. I saw a few orders being gotten ""incorrectly"" so I was thinking ""uh oh"" but you know, it is very busy with the holiday season right now. My husband ordered a pepperoni and sausage Calzone. I ordered seafood stuffed mushroom caps and cannelloni. Other reviews are correct about the manager seeming ""unfriendly"" and the workers seeming ""afraid to be happy"", it sort of induces that ""bungly, awkward clumsiness that comes from apprehension"". As confirmation, well, one of the staff dropped a small oval dish of marinara right next to our table. It splatted my pants. Not a biggie for me but my husband had just bought his shoes so he wasn't happy about it but was a good sport. The waiter came by and told us our appetizer would be free as a result of the marinara spill. I thought, GREAT! He brought out cheese covered sliced mushrooms (which were really good, but not the appetizer I had ordered). I didn't bother complaining, it was free, but it did bother me a little. My Cannelloni was possibly the best I've ever had. I had to eat half of it though and take the rest home. It is covered in some sort of creamy sauce which looks REALLY high cal. My DH's calzone, was decent. The crust was sort of thin for his preference. Service was good, he was asked if he wanted a refill as soon as his beverage ran out. Our waiter had no problem boxing our food. \r \r I recommend this place for the food. Unfortunately the rest of it is sort of average. Pros: Great Food, Decent Ambiance, Attentive Service Cons: Interior could use some updating, My Order was a bit off. more

Great Food, Horrible Management, Bad Atmosphere! 10/3/2006

We've gone to the Brick Oven by the Arboretum several times and have finally written them off. Its not that the service is bad, but there is just a real tension in the air from the hostesses all the way down to the servers. We're guessing that its caused mostly by uptight management, but whatever it is, it really makes the experience uncomfortable and downright awkward. On our last trip, we were seated close to the kitchen and we could actually hear one of the managers griping at our waitress the entire time, other than being noticeably bothered and distracted by it, she still gave us descent service. On seemingly every occasion, our waiter seems as though they are either scared to mess up (probably for fear of being fired) or they act as though they just really don't enjoy being there. Being a waitress myself in the past, I'm guessing it most likely originates from the little Napoleonesque manager I've seen walking around the place with a constant scowl on her face. Anyhow, for those loyal to the great flavors of the Brick Oven and their awesome pizzas, the Lakeline Mall location is not only more cheerful, but you can also tell that the owner there actually cares about what the place looks like. The Arboretum spot constantly reminds you that you're in a stripmall restaurant. Pros: great pizza, though a bit overpriced ($20 large pizza) Cons: you can cut the tension with a knife more

Not so fun 1/17/2005

I've been to 2 diffferent locations of brick oven and everytime it's been a serving disaster. The food was pretty good, but we had to wait forever for the server to notice us and begin serving us. The worst offender was the location on Research, twice my husband and I were seated but ignored for about 20 minutes. Don't eat here, the food is okay but not worth the service. Pros: atmosphere more
