Nothing Bitter Here 6/29/2006

This is my idea of the perfect bakery. Well, maybe not always perfect because so many people love this place that they tend to run out of their best sellers, like the peanut butter pie. Can you find something else as delicious? Sure. They have a small cafe with tables and they serve up simple luncheon fare (sandwiches and soup) that's pretty good, too. The cappuccinos are great, and staff is helpful. It's pricey, but you get a top quality baked good, be that tart, napoleon, or just a cute cookie. Highly recommended. more

Good but Expensive 5/18/2006

This is one of my favorite bakeries in the area. They have the best selection of baked good, including cakes, pies, cookies, and mini tarts. But is it just me, or is this place gettin expensiver and expensiver by the day? The other day I went in here and they charged me over 3 dollars for a mini tart thing! Well, despite that I keep going in here because the treats are just so good and definitely worth the money spent. They have awesome cakes too, but you have to preorder those. more

Bittersweet is All Sweet to Me 5/7/2006

Lovely, lovely cookies and cakes, tarts, pastries, and they offer cappuccinos (but no flavours). Bittersweet on Belmont, to the west of the Red and Brown Lines Station, is as cute as it is sweet. The decor's colour scheme makes me crave sugar-frosting on sugar cookies. And Bittersweet delivers...animal shapes, with bright sugar frosting. But expect to pay for the cuteness. I can't leave this bakery without spending at least ten dollars on cookies, and that's maybe five or six cookies. But you pay for the designs and the extra care spent on these cookies...and besides, if you have to spend a lot on cookies, you won't eat them as often. But if you are going home for the holidays, stop by Bittersweet to take something home to the family. They will be impressed, and you'll actually hear aw's. There are cute little cafe tables inside to have your cake and eat it, too. more

Expensive bakery 4/13/2006

I am going to be a minority here, but I don't think they have the best baked good in town. Their price is outrageously high, the croissant which I think is just average is costing you almost 2 bucks. However, the way they present thing even if you just buy 2 pieces of small cakes, are pretty. They tie the box with ribbon which make it special. Maybe that's what make their pricing a little bit on the high . I would not make a special trip to come here, but if I am in the area, I would most likely stop by. more

I think they have one of the best cakes in Chicago, the price is a little bit high, but the quality, taste and presentation is above average. My favorite cakes is chocolate cake. They will accommodate your order in a very professional way, make your take away cake wrapped in ribbon box. The pastry is also delicious, although the size is in a smaller size for the price. Clean place and friendly staff. more

Tasty Treats - Lovely Display 3/5/2006

I love food that is artfully prepared and displayed. Everything here looks as good as it tastes. They have decent seating and prices as well as an often changing helpful staff. You can get made to order fancy cakes or try one of their original pastry creations Go with someone and order 2 or three different things, that way you can sample a few different things. You must try more than one thing. more

Bakery 2/20/2006

I think this is a wonderful little bakery and pastry shop. They have some really yummy little tarts here. They not only look really cute, but taste great too. My favorite is the pecan tart. It is a great place to either pick up and go or to even sit and enjoy some pastries and a drink. I like the decor of this place; it really complements the sweet stuff they serve up. They also do big cakes for weddings and other occassions and they all look really beautiful and delicious. more

Bakery 1/14/2006

This is an awesome little bakery!! They have the most delicious pastries and pies here. Their pecan tart is the best and it comes in two sizes -- the mini one and the regular 16 inch. They have a little place in the bakery where you can sit and enjoy a nice drink and some of their pastries. Its fairly expensive, but their sweets are to die for. This is also the perfect place to go to get a cake for a special occassion. Just make sure you pre-order. more

A Great Bakery in a Prime Location 8/18/2005

This Belmont Street bakery defies its name...it's only sweet. There are some awesome baked goods, and the location is perfect for a quick pickup near the El. There is a small room for soup and sandwiches, and the luncheon fare is good, but the real reason to go are the pastries. Try the peanutbutter pie. more

Cute Dessert Shop 7/18/2005

This shop has some really cute cookies and beautiful cakes on display for weddings and other occasions. Some of there desserts are very good while others are just mediocre. I think it's another one of those over-priced trendy cafes. The brownies are pretty good. The decor is nothing special. You can also sit in the shop and enjoy your dessert with some tea or coffee. It's a nice one time experience. more
