My Trailblazer was failing to reach operating temperature. I made my own diagnosis of a stuck thermostat. After purchasing the parts to ""do it myself"" I realized that the thermostat placement made the job more than I wanted to tackle. I dropped in on Ben White Automotive on a Monday morning, and they were able to answer my questions and offer the labor at a competitive price. The technician took the time to check for engine codes and confirm my diagnosis before beginning work. The complicated job was completed in a reasonable amount of time and for exactly the quoted amount. The vehicle now warms quickly and operates exactly as designed. My only quibble is that the old upper radiator hose was reinstalled rather than the new one that was provided on the passenger floorboard. Rather than return to the shop, I completed the simple exchange myself. I recommend Ben White Automotive South for the great attitude and competence of its employees coupled with fair prices. more

Just needed a simple oil change. The service did take a while, but I was just a walk in. The staff was very knowledgeable and recommended specific types of oil for my older car. After I made my choice the service was quick and I was on my way. more

Shop is nothing fancy, but the people working there know what they are doing. Oscar will help you with just about anything. Oscar will tell you whats wrong, not what you want to hear. Took truck into a Firestone for a spongy brake pedal, and was told my brake lines were leaking and would have to be replaced, somewhere around $1000. Too steep, and didn't trust 'em. Ben White looked at it, the master cylinder was broken. $600 and some change and there have been no brake problems since. All three cars have been going there for almost 2 years. Don't trust your car with anyone but Ben White. more

no upselling fixed car without try to fix a lot of other things that did not need to be done.Just needed a new set of wheel bearings other shop wanted to put brakes,struts,tires Ben white auto said did not need will go back.also got free oil and filter change took a half a day other shop said mabye 2 days. The staff at Ben White Automotive are great. They looked over my car, and then came back with an honest estimate of what was needed for repair and what was suggested. They explained in very simple terms what options were available for my car repair, but didn't pressure me into getting any more services than were needed. I would definitely go to them again. more

I had an issue with my brakes recently. They were done by another shop and did a bad job. These guys not only told me what was wrong, but showed me exactly what was going on with my truck and why. They fixed it right and I will be taking my wife's car there soon for a tune-up and alignment. I also liked the fact that there were no surprise charges. I was very pleased with the service that I received. I had an issue with my steering in which I had already spent over $1000 trying to fix, with no resolution. After a free diagnosis, I was directed to another shop where I could get an alignment. My problem was fixed for under a hundred dollars and Ben White Auto received nothing. I will return because it is hard to find honesty and good service in the auto repair business. It appears that this shop has both. more

Found this shop through City Search, and I have to say I was pleased by the service. I just went in for a regular oil change. The shop seems incredibly busy though so if you can't or don't want to wait, make sure you have someone who can pick you up or you can have the shop drive you if you live nearby. more

I had a 60 thousand mile service done in April. Everything that was needed was explained to me and I was treated courteously when I asked my multitude of questions. I find the staff trustworthy and will be bringing my car here from now on. more

Its hard to move to a new, big city and find a mechanic you can truly trust. I have found the total package - honesty, trust and excellent, speedy service. I can't have something wrong with my car every time I take it in. I'm a college student, I'm poor! Ben White Auto is the place to go. The inside of the shop is pretty small and hidden off the frontage road of I35.. but if you can find it, you won't be disappointed. Oscar is a friendly, joking guy who sits in the front and will tell you what's wrong with your car (the real truth!) He will tell you how quickly things need to be fixed, and isn't the type to make something up to take your money (like most car shops). I'll continue to take my car there, and you should too! I was greeted very enthusiastically and was treated very well throughout the service. I received an oil change and after a thorough check of my car, they found some additonal issues (of course, right?!). But they were honest and said that none of it required immediate attention. This will help me trust them in the future when something does require immediate repair. I'm definitely going back!! I had engine check light on & needed catalytic converter to be replaced. Went to Ben White Automotive & met Oscar - Very nice & personable guy. He explained in detail the issue and solution. He gave me a quote which I later found to be the best amongst all others that I had probed. Also guided me regarding best time to come & time it will take & they were right on target. I found the staff to be very co-operative, customer-centric & friendly. Also their work was very satisfactory. driving my 2001 chevy 1500, i pushed in the clutch, it popped and hit the floor. I thought it was probably just a busted cable nothing serious. i had it towed to Leanords Garage on south first . they said it was the slave clinder, it needed to be replaced and with the mileage on the truck they recommended i replace the clutch since the transmission had to be dropped. the quote they gave me, 2200.00. I called Ben White Automotive and told Oscar exactly what was recommended and asked for a quote. Oscar quoted me 1075.00 for parts and labor, half the price of Leanords for the same parts and labor. I had the truck towed to Ben White automotive. Oscar told me that it was only the clutch peddle that had broken, he said they had replaced the clutch peddle and he drove the truck and the clutch was fine. The truck did not need a new clutch. Oscar recommened that the parking brake release be fixed and he also tacked the bumper that had come loose. all this plus towing........475.00. Now isnt this the way it should be. My husband and I have taken our car there several times and the staff is always friendly and willing to explain what they will be doing to the car. They tell you how long the work will take and never take longer than they estimated they would. Pros: prompt service, friendly, will explain what's wrong Cons: none that I've discovered more

We went to Ben White Automotive (South) to get the timing belt and water pump changed on my daughter's 1996 Accord (4 Cylinders) . We called around for prices and they were lower than others. My other daughter and son in-law had taken their cars to them and spoke very well of their service. So Friday morning we met a gentleman at the front desk named Oscar who was very friendly and provided an estimate of changing timing belt, water pump and two other auxiliary belts upfront. He said he would call later with more details as they got into it. He called about mid day about other issues with my car and his honest advice about whether I could delay/neglect those issues. We decided to replace the front axles. They did not finish Friday but they worked Saturday so my daughter would have the car for work Monday morning. The repairs actually cost more than estimated but they adjusted the bill by over a hundred dollars and honored their original estimate. Four weeks later I was changing the oil and replacing the faulty oxygen sensor that showed up in their report. Replacing sensor got the ""Check Engine"" light to go out. But the new oil I was pouring in was leaking onto the drive. I called them Monday at 9 AM and they said bring it in. It turned out a faulty PCV valve allowed too much pressure to build and caused the new valve cover gasket to leak. They replaced the PCV valve and the valve cover gasket by early afternoon. They did this at no extra charge even though the PCV valve was not in their scope of work. It's running great. These folks really care about doing a good job for a fair price.
