Solidly working out 4/9/2006

Okay, so it does sometimes smell like a gym, and the ventilation is not that great. But the Ballard Health Club is a solid place to go for workouts. They have nautilus machines, as well as a large selection of dumbbells, and a not as large selection of bar bells. But they do have 3 machines where you can do squats, etc. on. They also have a wide selection of stairmasters, treadmills, bikes, and my favorite, elliptical machines. Classes such as yoga, and step come free with the membership. I like going to workout here because the staff is very friendly, and the people are pretty low key. There are some of the semi-hard core lifters, but none that I've seen of the muscle men who like to walk around preening like they are the captains of the world. Guess where my pet peeve is. This is probably due to the lack of space for hard-core Olympic lifts--you know the cleans and jerks and such. If you're in the area and interested, you can get 1 free day pass to check it out. more

I couldn't be more pleased 8/19/2005

I have worked at multiple gyms in Seattle, and I can honestly say that this is one of my favorites. It is laid back, relaxed, clean, quiet and most importantly convenient. Being able to walk from my house is great, and even if I need to drive, there is plenty of free parking. The staff is helpful and unintrusive. The rates are great and affordable. A must for anyone moving into Ballard looking for a good gym. more

A great, low-cost gym 8/16/2005

I've belonged to the Ballard Health Club for almost a year now and I really enjoy it. It's much more "low key" than any gym I've been too. All the weights and cardio machines are in one big room, and there is a smaller roon for stretching, as well as one for classes. They have many cardio machines, lots of free weights and an entire circuit of "natulis" machines. There are people of all ages and sizes that go to this gym and it's easy to feel comfortable. Best of all, it is very, very affordable, only around $30 a month, compared to $50+ at some other places. You don't get a lot of "fancy" stuff, like a pool or cutting edge classes, but for someone who just wants to get in shape, run on the treadmill and do some weights, it's a great place. more
