Papyrus is a great little store. There are a good number of cards for many occassions. However, the real value and finds in this store are in the boxed cards. They do have individual ones, but not as many special and unique as they feature in boxes. There is also a good selection of wrapping papers and special papers for making your own cards. The staff isn't especially helpful, but usually you don't need much from them so it doesn't matter!

Local music is featured in this store, which makes it a great place for Seattle-ites. Has a decent used music section. There are really good in-store events, especially with local bands. You can get tickets through Ticketmaster or TicketsWest here. It's one of the better Sonic Boom locations in Seattle. Since it's a small store, you can tell the the music is carefully choosen.

Burnt Sugar is another one of Fremont's treasures. Unique gifts, clothing and accessories. The inventory is frequently changing and carefully selected, so go often. I really like the handbags and wallets here, I've also found some great cosmetic items. It can get a little pricey, but there are good sales and if you are a "one purse per season" gal like me, it's totally worth it to get a great one.

I love the Ballard Market. I admit, I'm not a diehard "natural foods" person and am just as happy w/ an Oreo as with an organic apple. However, I do enjoy getting fresh produce and like some hard to find items, like Pocki. The Ballard market is great for me. They have all the "normal" groceries (like Oreos!) and an awesome selection of produce, international items and big bins of grains, rice, etc. My only complaint is that it's always FREEZING in there!

There is a great selection of good, wholesome pet food at this little Crown Hill gem. They also have a good selection of items like beds, toys and some crates. The prices are a little high (as with any specialty pet food) but worth it if you need a specific type of food for an overweight or allergic pet. It's a testiment to how good they are that they've remained open across the street from the bigger, cheaper, pushier PetCo.

Bliss is a great store if you're 18 and tiny. If you're any older than that and normal sized, it can be hit and miss. The selection is pretty eclectic and it depends on the day as to what you'll find. I do feel slightly more hip just for going in, but then am usually disappointed because I can't find anything that screams "me."

I wouldn't go so far to say that Seattle is a fashion wasteland, but it's close. When a fleece from REI is considered an "evening jacket" you know you're in trouble. But Sway + Cake is a bright spot on the fashion horizon. Their jean selection is great -- they carry True Religion, Seven, Joe's Jeans and more. There are also a few shoes to choose from and a good selection of upscale T-shirts. There is a decent selection of jewelry and they run pretty good sales. It can be expensive, but no more than that awful Gore-Tex jacket you were thinking of buying.

Swanson's is great. We just bought a house and know, well, nothing, about plants, gardening, what have you. We wanted our yard to look nice, so we headed down to Swansons. Not only do they have tons to choose from but the staff is very helpful and willing to answer all your questions, even the dumb ones. It is a little expensive, but worth it if you are only planning on buying a few plants that you want to live for a long time.

Ballard Blossom is a really great store, it's so much more than "just" a florist. You can find interesting gifts, planters, etc in their store. Their flower arrangements are amazing, of course, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't go into the store, instead of just calling in an order. The florists there are very knowledgable and helpful and really want to make sure you get the perfect arrangement for your occassion!
