If you value your time, competence in your cleaners and basic respect for customers then DON'T go here! 1/14/2009

When I dropped off a high-end purse here, I checked to see if this cleaner could handle it. I was told \r by not one, but two, employees that it was fine and would be ready the next Wed. Two days AFTER it \r was supposed to have been ready they called to say they didn?t feel comfortable doing it. I complained \r when I picked it up, but the worker didn't seem to care. He didn't even offer a coupon or an apology! \r If you value your time, competence in your cleaners and basic respect for customers then don?t go \r here.\r \r Cons: Lie to customers; waste their time; are incompetent. more

Got electric blue nail polish out of black designer jeans 12/11/2008

Need I say more? I had already written off my Joes Jeans as trash, but decided to take it to Abe's to see if anything could be done. 5 days and $17.50 later, my jeans look like new. Sure, $17.50 is not cheap, but we're talking about a pair of almost-new $180 jeans with electric blue nail polish spilled down 1 leg. I gladly paid the money, as it's unlikely that I'm going to be buying more designer jeans anytime soon in this economy. Abe performed a miracle. more

Great experience! 10/9/2008

We had Abe's press a wedding dress, and clean some sweaters, curtains and a suit. They did a great job, and it was reasonably priced. The owner and employees are fun and friendly... Amazingly, they remembered us: On our second visit there, they knew immediately who we were and what we came to pick up. It was a pleasure going to Abe's, and we'll be going back! Pros: Customer service, location more

never going back 5/27/2008

I toook a wedding gown to Abe's to have a stain removed. After they looked at the stain I was told it would be good as new. I called a little while after the scheduled date I was given (they did not call me) and was told it was ready. When I picked it up I asked if the stain had been removed and was told it was. When I got home and looked at it, it was obvious the stain had not been removed. There was a tag attached that said they had inspected it and done all they could without possible damage to the material. I called and explained the situation and was told they thought they could get it out and they were sorry. I then called around for recommendations from bridal stores (I probably should have done this first) and was given the name of Vermont Cleaners from all of them. I took it there and the dress looks like new. They even offered to waive the charge if they could not remove the stain. Abe's did not refund the money. When I called and said I had the stain removed elsewhere he (one of the owners) said he could ""see where I was going with this"" and that he would not refund the money but did offer store credit. He then questioned my line of work to use as reference point for his thinking. Calling out the customer and his/her credentials? Never again. Pros: location Cons: service, bad attitude more

hurray! 5/12/2007

I have never before gotten excited to go to the dry cleaners. ""Abe"" is charming and funny (too bad for the humorless guy that wrote the bad review), and somehow remembers my name even though I'm in there maybe once every 3 months. The shop itself features a fun collection of antiques, with the window full of vintage wood hangers from laundries around the country long gone. How often are you tempted to buy an 1840's carved swan settee while picking up your shirts? The kind of quirky, friendly, personality filled place that makes portland great! Oh, and they do a great job cleaning clothes too. Pros: nice experience every time more

Awesome experience 4/12/2007

Reading all of the reviews, I was sold. When going to read the other reviews prior to posting, I saw a negative one. You may not be able to please customers asking for ridiculous things but you sure made a believer out of me! I brought in a pretty big load of laundry, seeing as how I had an important dinner date the next night. They say first impressions are the best and mine was great thanks to Abe. Not only are they friendly and conversational, but when I inquired about the prices, I was given a straightforward answer and left feeling great knowing that my clothes were in good hands. If you're new in town as I am, go see Abe and the family. Kids offering you candy are always a plus. Pros: Great ambience and prompt service. Cons: None, plus it's across from a great bakery. more

Fun, friendly and quick service 3/23/2007

Once again, Abe's pulled out a miracle for me. I got nice, fresh, wet paint on my $200 jacket. I know, you are thinking what the hell is this moron doing around fresh paint with expensive clothing. The long and the short of it is, I'm an idiot. Anyway, Joe took the clothes in and he and his nephew were playing around, talking to my daughter and having a great time it seemed. Combine a happy workplace with excellent cleaning acumen and a two day turnaround (for paint removal!) and you have a winner in my book. I don't know what the normal turnaround time is for removing paint, but it's normally 1-2 days, which is better than the 3-4 I've received at other places that don't do their cleaning on site, which Abe's does. AND, the biggest bonus is: free candy. And we're talking good, tasty hershey's and kit kats, not dried up dum dums like the bank gives you. Pros: Friendly, prompt, competent service more

Professional cleaning, at last! 2/16/2007

Never before have my clothes come back from the dry cleaner so soft and clean. And they don't smell like chemicals, either! I've tried at least five different dry cleaners in Portland, and none of them can hold a candle to Abe. He's a pro. more

Abe is the best 8/16/2005

I have yet to bring in a stain that Abe can't fix. He's a lifesaver! Service is always friendly, timely, and reasonably priced. I can't recommend him highly enough. Pros: Highly skilled, Reasonably priced, Friendly more
