Best

The best Dim Sum I have had. It was as great as Dim Dum at the Sheraton Towers & Hotel in Hong Kong. The food was fresh and delicious. Wait for an upstairs seat as downstairs look...

Way Too Expensive! I have talked to Chinese people about this place and they avoid this restaurant because of price and also not authentic. I can have good inexpensive Dim Sum in ...

reliable and yummy 9/12/2002

not flashy - just really fresh ingredients, always well cooked and truly wonderful dim sum my European friends LOVE this place and keep returning typical decor, reasonable service, and atrocious parking keep the rating from being higher Pros: fab dim sum, excellent regular men, reliable Cons: parking, standard decor more

Definitely NOT the best 9/12/2002

The best dim-sum is in Toronto. Ton Kiang is definitely good, but not fabulous by any means. And quite expensive for Dim Sum. Pros: Fast Service Cons: Expensive more

Good but not the best! 9/5/2002

Dim sum is pretty good, however, dinner dishes are not as good compared to their prices. There are some chinese restaurants over Millbrae or Sunset area in better food and better price. more

excellent 7/30/2002

This is a great restaurant to go anytime it's open. You can have wonderful dim sum anytime also. The service is pleasant and and noise level is usually low. The crab claws are the best I've ever tasted! All the ingredients are fresh and the preparations are very appetizing. Pros: great hours Cons: parking can be hard more

Still good despite limited menu 7/16/2002

Although I eat regularly at the dim sum heavyweights like Koi Palace, Fook Yuen, and HKFL, I'm still very fond of Ton Kiang. Ton Kiang is somewhat Americanized, but that manifests mostly in the limited menu, which only has about 30-40 dim sum treats instead of the 100+ at the grand palaces. The quality is high, especially in their steamed plates: the dumpling skins are wonderfully translucent and delicate; the seafood and vegetables light and unbelieveably fresh. On their up days, the shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, and mango pudding beat all others. Ton Kiang also serves dim sum quite late, unlike most places which stop serving around 2. I need to make another trip soon to see if the quality is still there, but overall I recommend Ton Kiang if you're looking for an introduction to dim sum. Pros: Fresh food, Upscale atmosphere Cons: Limited selection, Slightly pricier more

What are you smoking???!!! 7/15/2002

Year after year, this place gets nominated for the best dim sum in the area. Huh??? This is the San Francisco Bay Area, not some one stoplight hick town in Montana. Who keeps rating this place so high? I've eaten at this place several times for over 10 years and this has always been the constant: way overpriced for mediocre food at small portions. Also, it's ""California"" dim sum for yuppies. The portions are small and not for a Chinese palate. And for the price, I could get much better (and authentic) dim sum at places like Koi Palace or Fook Yuen. Heck, if I want good, authentic dim sum at reasonable prices, there's a better alternative right next door! There at least three or four Chinese restaurants within six blocks of Ton Kiang that serve better dim sum. Cons: Overpriced, Small Portion, No Parking more

NOT authentic Cantonese Dim Sum at all! If you are a Chinese like me who has been living in HK for 30 years, you can tell their chicken feet, shrimp dumpling, etc, SUCK! They set high price to please classy Westerners who think cheap Chinese food tastes bad. Cons: non-authentic, expensive, not worthy more

Fortunately for us ... 7/11/2002

Fortunately for us this place seems not to have made it into the guidebooks YET. It was very sad when they closed the one closer in, but this one is stilll fine! Outstanding food. Pros: Outstanding food more

The final word 7/10/2002

I am Chinese, I have been to Hong Kong several times and eaten at quite a few places, and my family was in the restaurant business for more than 25 years, so I feel like I am more than a bit qualified to give my opinion on this restaurant. And quite frankly, it is one of the best that I have been to, in terms of quality of food, portions, cleanliness and value. For those seeking a good Chinese restaurant with quiet ambience for a tete-a-tete, obsequious service, fist-sized portions of dim sum and food for free, I don't know what planet you reside on. more

Good dim-sum 6/25/2002

Good dim-sum, and good service. We arrived shortly before noon, and before the crowds. That probably factored into the better experience. The decor was not too bad either. The noise level was a bit high, especially once the place packed in. Overall, they have a good variety of dim-sum for a fair to slightly high price. Pros: Good variety, Good service Cons: Noise level more
