Best

The best Dim Sum I have had. It was as great as Dim Dum at the Sheraton Towers & Hotel in Hong Kong. The food was fresh and delicious. Wait for an upstairs seat as downstairs look...

Worst

Way Too Expensive! I have talked to Chinese people about this place and they avoid this restaurant because of price and also not authentic. I can have good inexpensive Dim Sum in ...

yank Sing may win this category- if you've got expense acct, but this neighborhood spot is best in the area, and city. But get there early!!!! Pros: best dim sum Cons: horrible parking, long waits for those , not most helpful serv more

Completely Overrated!!! Truly a Disappointment 9/18/2005

I was looking forward to trying Ton Kiang on my trip to San Francisco after seeing the best of on citysearch ( I should have read the reviews before going however) and seeing it mentioned in the guidebook. We regreted choosing this place instead of another place we were initially going to. The dim sum was way overpriced and the food was almost average at best. It wouldn't have been as bad if the food was great since it was expensive compared to other places. They even went wrong with the fruit if that's even possible. It was almost $6 and a small size, all 5 different kinds of fruit and not even one measly peice was anything close to sweet. the dumplings were so-so and nothing was that impressive. This place is way overrated and the service isn't that great either. Cons: overpriced, average taste, poor service more

OK...at best 8/3/2005

The food taste and quality have declined in the last few years. Dim Sum is okay kind of bland, not worth the high prices. I have had much better dim sum for much less money. It is one of the nicer, cleaner dim sum places in the city, but the food is just okay. Pros: clean, nice atmosphere Cons: high prices, bland dim sum more

Horrible. 7/24/2005

I can't believe people actually like this place. I went to Ton Kiang with a party of 8-10 to eat some Dim Sum. The place was packed and service was therefore horrible. Asked for water... NEVER got it. Dim Sum selection is some what small and quality was not that great. For the price, I would've expected to be blown away with GREAT food, but was totally let down by the overall experience. I doubt that I'd try this again, even if it was free. Pros: Cleanliness Cons: Taste of food, Service, Price more

Great Service, Overpriced food. 7/11/2005

SF has many great Chinese restaurants that serves excellent food. However Ton Kiang is average at best, especially compared to the hundreds of chinese restaurants in the city. This restaurant would only be good out side of the bay area, however they are not. The prices for these dishes are also overpriced. The locals of SF do not understand the concept of expensive chinese food. If it is, then the ingredients must be very fresh and the place must be high class. This place does have excellent service and a good ambiance, which is what you're paying for. But if you're looking for great chinese food, and cheap, there are many just sitting on the same block. Pros: Service, Ambiance Cons: Price, Value more

Not as good as everyone says it is. 6/26/2005

The service here is excellent. The waiters are courteous, and are quick to provide you with friendly service. I just don't get what everyone is raving about, aside from the good service. The food is good, but I have had better. The dim sum portions are small and are way overpriced for what you get. However, one thing that sets this restaurant's dim sum apart from the rest is that they serve dim sum even at dinner time, which is extremely rare. Pros: Service, Dim sum for dinner, cleaniness Cons: Expensive more

Excellent dim sum but EXPENSIVE 5/16/2005

This restaurant came highly recommended by friends and I was NOT disappointed by the dim sum. It was exceptional fresh and piping hot. The service was prompt and courteous. The only negative is the expensive price per dim sum dish. Where NYC restaurants charge a little over $2.00 for medium dishes (beef wrapped in rice roll, chicken feet), Ton Kiang charges $3.75. Of course, seafood dim sum costs more. Pros: good service, fresh dim sum Cons: expensive more

EXCELLENT DIM SUM!!! 3/15/2005

I've tasted many dim sum from various state and I must say that Ton Kiang impressed me. The flavor were authentic and the food were freshly made. Try this place yourself and you will see what i mean. Only downside to this place is trying to understand the servers when they bring the dim sums out for you. Other than that, good eats, decent price, what else can you ask for in life Pros: Dim Sum, Ambience, Service Cons: Parking, Communications more

One of the best dim sum places 3/7/2005

Ton Kiang never dissapoints when it comes to dim sum. Dishes always come hot and are high quality. The menu with drawings and descriptions are helpful for non-chinese speakers. Since this place somewhat caters to an American crowd, prices are a little high for dim sum, but worth it if you're trying to find something in the city. Wait can be quite long on Sunday mornings and parking might take a while to find. Pros: Dim Sum Cons: Parking more

A Favorite 1/2/2005

This is a local favorite in our neighborhood. Food and service is excellent and consistent. With so many Chinese restaurants in SF, this one is on the #1 on our list. Pros: Food, Friendly Service, Cleaniness more

Solid Dim Sum 11/29/2003

Although this is not Yank Sing, it is a decent alternative to those who may not want to spend Yank Sing prices. Good are the small vegetable dishes including Chinese broccoli, fresh asparagus and Chinese greens. Dumplings are solid but not world class. One minus is the selection of dim sum offerings is not that extensive. Pros: vegetables Cons: limited selection more
